Mount did beat a ranked team and we squeeked by an unranked one.  Also they did lose three first place votes.  I thought Platteville and Oshkosh should have been ranked ahead of us to begin with.  Given the way we played for 52 minutes I wouldn't have been surprised if we had dropped further though our reputation is getting us some votes.

Call me stupid but worrying where you are ranked isn't the wisest use of your energy. Right now the focus should only be on Buff State. Now go out and win the game! I think I need a snickers!!

True, but as fans we can't determine the outcome of a game. So I think it's harmless for us fans to check out the rankings. Just as long as the team focuses on Buff State, then we'll be ok.

I think it's a no brainer that UWP should be ahead of UWW. But UWO on the other hand....I'm not so sure.

Saw you from a distance at the game while talking to some other UWW fans and when I turned back to come say hello to you, you were gone.  I wanted to tell you that it is good to see you "looking good"!   Also, Thanks for really coming back full steam to do what you do to help us WIAC and UWW fans enjoy the experience even more.

Not worried in the least, those doing the rankings saw a fairly anemic output against a team that last year in a supposed down year we beat by 30 points.   People expect UWW to do better, that is the legacy of 7 straight trips to the Stagg Bowl.  No matter how good UWO was last year, no-one nationally expects that from them, especially with the loss of Wara.

Time will tell.

I'm with you on UWP. UWO I can see both sides of the coin on that.
I agree w BW that reputation is helping to keep UWW in the top 25- as is the defense.
UWW should be in every game this year (UWP passing attack does worry me though).
Truth be told, if Pickems for Buff St were this week- I'd take Buff State. I think they have a more explosive offense than Wash U and UWW will pay the price for having only 2/3 rds of a complete team.

I don't thinks Buff St's defense will be as solid as Wash U's. Buff gave up 475 yards to a Cortland St team that only returned two offensive starters this season. Also, Buffalo State had to replace nine starters on their own defense from last season.

Looks like a good matchup between a struggling UWW offense vs. a struggling Buff defense. While a very solid Buff offense will be going up against a very solid UWW defense.

With two weeks to prepare (and with a huge chip on their shoulder), I'll take UWW.

How's that for some optimism!!  ;D  ;)

So - no comments on the new UWW jerseys and helmets?

Always thought the previous jersey set was strong, looked sharp, and avoided all the goofy attempts at "uniqueness" that so many seem to want to achieve.  I guess that the new jerseys are OK - but I'm not a fan of the "W" on the back of the helmet.  Willie without the "W" on the sides is fine, but that "W" on the back - not thrilled.

Anyone else have a reaction?
What the hell was that?  That was a Drop-kick.  Drop-kick? How much is that worth?  Three points.  THREE POINTS?!

That was nice of Bleedpurple to write this for you  ;D
I agree w your analysis on the surface, however the part that makes me uncomfortable is the pedigree. Yes, Wash U returned a lot of starters. Yes, Cortland and Buff State lost lots of starters.
Is Wash U getting the same level of football talent as the other two?  Those two teams play tough opponents all season long.
I will be shocked if UWW has an easier time w Buff St. And Buff St has a lot to prove as well- imagine beating UWW two consecutive times.  The last team to do that was Mt.
I'm sending myself into a 2 week state of depression.

In the past, someone has written a cool blog about WIAC.  I'm not seeing any mention of it.  Does anyone know if it still exists?

I'm not naming names, but it's 02.

My work computer was upgraded to Win7 recently, and since then I'm unable to post or edit anything new on the blog. Not sure if it's a compatibility issue or what......Plus at home I have a Mac, and the blogsite isn't really compatible with Apple products.

So the site is a no-go for the foreseeable future.

Thanks WD

I guess I didn't want to stay in one spot too long in the Perk parking lot with all the campus police on bikes patrolling the lot as part of the new security on football game days.

Also thanks for the compliment.  Feeling pretty good and ready for the trip to Buff State!

Very similar to my reaction.  I like the uniform itself and replacing the W with the hawk logo was a good move.  But like you I don't like the W on the back of the helmet much at all.  It's out of place and I don't like the look of it.

Prior to the game I had a discussion with an associate who mentioned the new helmet technology that will soon be incorporated (and possibly mandated by the NCAA) in football helmets.  My understanding is that it is being tested some place this year.  The helmet includes sensors that record data regarding the severity of contact that occurs and then relays it to a computer.  Evidently if the contact is severe enough the player will have to be withdrawn from competition.  I don't really know much of the specifics however.

I can see it now.  Rival students hack in and send every starter to the bench! :o ;D

I sure hope #7 Pasquale Vacchio was one of those players.  That dude was an absolute beast last year.  He spent nearly as much time in our backfield as our running backs did.  While I'm on record feeling that we may have one of the best linebacker groups in the nation that dude was the best linebacker that I saw play last year.  We really didn't do much to stop him.

Are you sure that you want to be that far back from the edge?  ;)
