Also, Buffalo State had to replace nine starters on their own defense from last season.

Looks like a good matchup between a struggling UWW offense vs. a struggling Buff defense. While a very solid Buff offense will be going up against a very solid UWW defense.

With two weeks to prepare (and with a huge chip on their shoulder), I'll take UWW.

How's that for some optimism!!  ;D  ;)

I sure hope #7 Pasquale Vacchio was one of those players.  That dude was an absolute beast last year.  He spent nearly as much time in our backfield as our running backs did.  While I'm on record feeling that we may have one of the best linebacker groups in the nation that dude was the best linebacker that I saw play last year.  We really didn't do much to stop him.

Are you sure that you want to be that far back from the edge?  ;)

Vacchio isn't one of the two players returning.

Not to take anything away from the Buff St team from last year, but they finished 153rd in total defense in DIII. So it's not like they were great last year....just against UWW apparently.

I expect UWW to get things going against them....and hopefully Huber will be back as well.

Getting Huber back and Howard will be helpful.  Huber can definitely stretch the field and he is a threat to run as well.

So - no comments on the new UWW jerseys and helmets?

Always thought the previous jersey set was strong, looked sharp, and avoided all the goofy attempts at "uniqueness" that so many seem to want to achieve.  I guess that the new jerseys are OK - but I'm not a fan of the "W" on the back of the helmet.  Willie without the "W" on the sides is fine, but that "W" on the back - not thrilled.

Anyone else have a reaction?

Sink - I am glad someone finally commented on the new duds for the hawks...  The helmet is fine, I agree with most that the script W on the back is trying to hard... We are not Oregon.  They would have made a much bigger splash with a second helmet color, either a white, black, or silver would do it for me.  The Solo Warhawk with no W behind it has been discussed within the program going back to when Andy Harris was the equipment manager.  UWW is going to need to tweak the entire uniform when programs like UW-P, and wheaton are getting slick new threads.

As far as the jersey, I thought it was classic and well done.  They didn't over think it, and they updated a much needed look.  I just wish they would do a video about the new unis, as recruits watch them and it creates a buzz about the program.

We'll find out how good UWO is this year when they take on the defending NAIA champion Marian University (Ind.) next weekend. I'm proud of the way UWO came back against Central College...showed great poise and determination.

A lot of senior leadership on this team coming off the first WIAC championship since 1976....they'll be good even if they lost Nate Wara. 9 seniors on offense and 5 on defense.

People often ask why UW-Whitewater athletics has been so successful. I say it is because we get high profile, big named athletes to U-Dub-Dub.  Check out today's press release from UWW Women's Soccer.

I hope they realized it's not 2012 anymore and they can't sleep walk though the start of many more games or they'll get burned.

Yes, they surely need to drop that trend. That was a trend that didn't begin until the playoffs began. Even against St. Scholastica they were down to start before rattling off 40+ unanswered points.

Voice I know the Coach's Show isn't your production but I also know you have connections.
The audio for last night's show is horrible. I can't believe someone didn't pick up on it. It's especially disappointing because they had Coach Borland on as well.
Any chance it can be repaired?

I was present and the audio in the restrauant was terrible as well.  You couldn't hear anything except the commercials they ran.  Afterward I mentioned to them that Voice had told me the radio broadcast was also poor.  I'm not sure that they can do anything about it however.  At least they are aware of the problem and hopefully it out and have it working by next week.

I was at Sal's for last night's Warhawk Weekly Radio Show.  The sound was tested 15 minutes prior the show's open and everything was fine.  It is a broadcaster's nightmare when "gremlins" show up at the last minute. Believe me - I've experienced such technical problems over my 35 year radio career.  The problem is being addressed by KOOL 106.5 technicians and I look for the sound to be great next Monday night.

BTW - the pizza was great for me and BadgerWarhawk even though I suffered a "technical problem" when taking a bite of my double cheese and sausage thin crust.

I thought it was neat that Coach Borland was a guest and I was interested to hear what he had to say.  Although he is a play it close to the vest kind of guy, as well as a very humble guy, so I don't imagine he gave away any secrets.

Going into Saturday's game I was intrigued as to how the rotation would work with the 4 senior linebackers.  I noticed that it seemed they literally rotated one guy out every series, not matter what the game situation.  Wismer took turns at the middle backer when it was Klotz' turn to rotate out.  I guess that makes it easy on the position coach.  IMO I think it's the fairest thing they could do as well given how talented all four are.

Given that you couldn't hear a thing at Sals and based on what has been said about the radio broadcast if Borland did release any secrets they remained secrets. I know that he feels we are deep on the defensive side of the ball and prior to the game had hoped to use 18-20 players.  I didn't count and I haven't looked at the participation list in the box score so I don't know that he was able to accomplish that but I did notice a lot of substitutions in the front seven.

Marshall Rutherford- #95- I like his game. He's got some closing speed for a big fella.

Back on 9/11/01 I was the midday news editor at the statewide Wheeler News Service in Madison. I had never felt more pressure in my media career. We were located on the square in Madison and I must have made a dozen trips (one block) to the state capitol to get state reaction. I ended the day depressed thinking I had let our clients down due to poor news coverage. Four months later I received a state news award for my work that infamous day. Of the many awards that I have received, I'm most proud of that one.

The following weekend the UWW at Lambuth game was one of the few to be played at the D3 level. I remember the subdued atmosphere in the busses going down to Jackson, TN.  Driving through the many small towns all you saw were flags flying and patriotic signs lining the highway. The whole trip was surrealistic including our broadcast of the game. I don't know how the teams found the emotional strength in the 3 OT 56-50 UWW win that hot, humid Tennessee afternoon.

There did end up being about 60 D-III games that day, a little over half. But no D-I games were played and no games that required flying or crossing international borders (I believe Pacific Lutheran was to play Simon Fraser) were played.

A lot of good journalism work was done that day. 9/11 was a Tuesday and that was a day off for me but when I realized what was happening I dropped everything and went into the office. Honestly, it's probably the only way I stayed calm that day was by working.  :-\
