All former UW-Whitewater football players are invited back to campus the weekend of September 27 and 28 to participate in the inaugural UW-Whitewater Football Alumni Weekend Celebration. This year the 1978, 1988, 1998 and 2008 conference champions are being honored.
I've written a series of stories on the teams and the event. To access the stories click on the link below:

Voice, I sent you a tweet about the mural in this article. So I'll post it here too. I wonder if Coppage will ever get added to it. I believe he's the only two-time Player of the Year among them.

From all I talk to - no!

Outside of UWP....is there an offense that really scares anyone in the WIAC??? Oshkosh maybe with Myra? That's about it......

With that being said, UWP's defense won't see anything "high powered" until the playoffs....then the true test begins. If their defense rises to the challange, they will be one of the top teams in the West/North.

02 I appreciate your prediction of P-ville going to the playoffs but in true Bret Bielema fashion the Pioneers need to go 1 & 0 each week before we can mention playoffs.  I for one am worried about Dubuque this weekend.

Surprised by the size of the UWO OL this year...seem small compared to my senior year in 06.

Who is expected to have the most physical offensive line in the conference this year?

LT - 6'5" 300 vs 6'4" 320
LG - 6'2" 235 vs 6'1" 305
C - 6'1" 310 vs 6'1" 325
RG - 6'3" 280 vs 6'1" 270
RT - 6'2" 275 vs 6'2" 305

Keep in mind with UWO's up tempo offense you need quick and well conditioned linemen. For mostly meeting that criteria I think they're actually pretty big. Per usual for any Oline this is an aspect of the Titans success that past few seasons that has been over looked a bit. UWO doesn't have the best line but it is very versatile.

You gotta love D3 football and the small towns they play in.

In a New York Times feature article on Mount Union published yesterday former Purple Raider great Cecil Shorts was asked about Alliance, OH (population 22,000)

"There's not too much going on; I think the biggest thing there is a Walmart," Shorts, the current Jacksonville Jaguar wide receiver said.

Is Whitewater any different?

To the UWEC supporters:

Heart attack central.  Another game with mistakes and odd decisions where both teams were in a position to win.

The gov't called.  They want Sweeney's bionic legs back.

Eerily similar to last year for UWW heading into Buffalo State game. Like last year, Buff State is not a team to take lightly.
Curious as to who the favorite and spread would be.

Nice win by the Titans yesterday....keep it rolling boys

The defense was to carry UWL early in the season while an inexperienced offensive line had time to get acclimated to the task it faced. The O-line seems to be improving, but the defense has failed to show in the first two games. It is true that two excellent QB's have been on the slate, but the defense has looked awful thus far. Poor tackling and wide open receivers have led to a 38.0 defensive PPG average and well over 1000 yards allowed already. The schedule doesn't get any better with a D2 opponent, then WW and Oshkosh upcoming. Someone needs to step up or we will be looking at 0-5 at midseason. On a more positive note, the kicking game looks good, and the offense seems to be progressing. It will be tough to improve on last year's 4-6 mark at this rate.

Whitewater is a cool little town. That's because I've only been there when It was cool and not even winter yet. With 10,000 students the small town must be lively.
02...nice words about UWP but they are very vulnerable and after a after first round home game they are in trouble.
UWW has one d3 AA coach who was not especially large but highly trained and skilled.

...are there any dive bars in or on the outskirts of town?   ;D

With two weeks to prepare against a defense that surrenders 34 points per game, I like UWW's chances. Buffalo St. is giving up over 400 passing yards/game thus far! UWW lost to a very different Buffalo St. defense last season. Yes, their offense is very good...but so is UWW's defense.

UWW by 3

For the record, UWW hasn't lost a D3 road game to a non-WIAC opponent in the regular season since 2003 (Mount Union). I think that's the only streak UWW has going for them.  :)

Buffalo State gave up an average of 34.5 points per game last year before playing at UW-Whitewater and held them to on 6 points. I don't think you can use the first two games to compare what UW-Whitewater can do. The offense Buffalo State faced in the first two weeks is totally different than what UW-Whitewater does. I think this game is going to be a good indication on how good both teams are nationally.

Good point. At the same time Buffalo St. came into Whitewater averaging 36.5 points per game, but was held to just 7 in 2012. That was on a trick last-minute hook-and-ladder play (which I still have nightmares about).

I'm just hoping UWW's offense can take a step forward from two weeks ago.

I would agree that they have appeared a little vulnerable in their first two games than I previously would have thought. But I still think they are the best the WIAC has to offer this season. I'll be interested to see how their defense will be once the WIAC season begins. However, they probably won't see any high powered offenses. I guess we'll see if they will be "in trouble" past the first round of the playoffs.....not to get too far ahead of ourselves.

But I will say Oshkosh has impressed me thus far. They are playing better than I expected. Always good to see a DIII team knock off the defending NAIA champs.
