I spent many years fighting that errant apostrophe that doesn't belong in Stevens Point, too. Now I can let it go. Remember, the Point doesn't belong to Steven, the Point is named after Mr. Stevens. :)

Don't get me started on "Stephens" or I may have a relapse.

So it's UWW-S'sP? Got it.
no, it is UWSP.......

UWWSS'sP?

Well done! So much more creative than coming back on and informing him you were using sarcasm +k Teach a man to fish...
???Damn, just got done getting use to those smiley face things to let me know when people were joking or being sarcastic   ;)  So how are things over on the MIAC Board since the Johnnies beat the Tommies?

Watching all A.J.'s old teammates on facebook who will be coming to the alumni weekend celebration has me feeling sorry for myself. We miss all those boys so much!  But BIG MWC match up tomorrow between Carroll and St. Norberts.  Have a great day at the Perk, everyone!

      Go Warhawks and Pioneers!

In the first quarter we had 5 possessions all of which resulted in scores.  Two were for 1:28 and the others were :35, :05 and 1:44.  In the second quarter it was another 5 possessions.  Two resulted in defensive stops with TOP of 1:41 and 1:47, one was a defensive score on the interception and the other two were offensive scores with TOP of 2:51 and :50.  The third quarter had another defensive score, a nonscoring possession of 2:13 and a scoring possession of 3:16.  In the fourth quarter we had one possession that resulted in a score in :05 another in 2:28 and two nonscoring possessions of 3:43, our longest of the day, and the final possession of :17 where we took a knee.

When you're playing on short fields, scoring that quickly and adding defensive scores on top of it you aren't going to have the ball all that long.

I think UW-W could have spotted them a 55 to 5 Time of possession edge and still won.

Sounds like it was an overall solid team performance.  I'm looking forward to the WIAC schedule.

As I couldn't attend today, I'm interested to hear the thoughts of those that could on some of the following:
-I believe the longest TD drive UWW has had all season is 75 yards, which occured today- and culminated when the UWW back fumbled into end zone and it was recovered by UWW lineman.  Aside from this drive, I think the longest is less than 50 yards.  I realize the D has given the O the ball in great field position, but the times the O has had to drive the field they've not been able to.
-The pass completion percentage is just over 50% for the last two games- and overall for the season it's 56%.
-3rd down conversions- 36%.
-Red Zone touchdowns-57%
-Avg yards per carry under 4.
-Longest rush is 28 yards.

When I read these stats I feel the team may still be lopsided to defense and special teams, while the offense has definately improved from last year, there actual performance may be a bit misleading from the scores.

I'm a little hesitant to draw any conclusions from the season stats.  The offense was nowhere near in sync against WashU, and then the next two were laughers by the second quarter.  So backups might have gotten more reps than the starters (close, anyway).  And they ran up the middle play after play.

So those percentages are pretty compromised.  I like that it appears we have some quick strike passing game - by the way, it was ungodly windy yesterday which affected passing significantly.  We will have to wait and see what happens with stiffer competition.  But I see positive signs.
What the hell was that?  That was a Drop-kick.  Drop-kick? How much is that worth?  Three points.  THREE POINTS?!

Watching the game it looks like there is still room for improvement in the passing game. A lot of the misses were extremely low throws. Overall the passing was greatly improved there were a lot of non-starters playing in the second half. An issue I did notice was that almost every shotgun snap was high. The QB was getting the ball face high or higher a lot of the time. He only lost one of them but it seemed to slow him down. Hopefully they will get that under control before the conference schedule when it could hurt. I am pretty sure everyone that wasn't injured got playing time Saturday. The defense was awesome. I haven't checked but I think most of waldorfs yardage came on a very limited number of plays. Most plays were stopped at the line or for a loss, including plays involving our 3 and 4 deeps. Overall a great job on both sides of the ball.

I agree with KitchenSink that it is difficult to draw any conclusions from these stats. These first three games accomplished quite a bit in terms of building depth and giving experience to young players. I am guessing we have one of the 5 best defenses in the country.  Certainly, having a QB starting his 4th, 5th, and 6th games, an offensive line with 9 of 10 players on the 2-Deep being freshman and sophomores, and having both top returning running backs miss significant playing time would not be a usual formula for having an offense to match a Top 5 defense.  What i believe is that the QB and O-Line are improving every game, the offense has a quick strike, big play ability that is light years above last year's team, and consistency will come as more players gain more experience.

Easy there my friend New Hawk.  We had a freshman back-up start at center on Saturday.  Peters the sophomore starter should be back this week. All in all the freshman did fine. Yes there were so high snaps, but he did very well overall.   I like the development of the offense since game one.   I especially like the up tempo, no huddle.

"Pound The Rock!!!"

02 Warhawk

I still have yet to witness a snap of the Hawks this season (I've heard rumors of a new helmet), it's been very frustrating. The two home games I couldn't attend I had every intention of watching it on my computer, only to find out a game feed wasn't available.  >:(

From the two games I listened to (and what I've read), it sounds like Whitewater's offense is in much better shape than last season's. We've been very critical (including myself) of the team's offensive performance in week one. But I don't think we gave enough credit to Washington's defense. I've took a look at what they've done since the UWW game. They gave up only 7 to Rhodes, surrendered only 10 at Coe, and last Saturday they gave up just 14 to Centre. Looks like Wash U defense is the real deal. So all things considered, UWW's offense that day did a good job that day despite all the question marks and uncertainty going into Week 1.

With that being said I think their offense will be just fine, and probably a step above serviceable. By no means will they be the offense we're all used to seeing in the past, but they will be a very good compliment to an outstanding defense this year.

So get your butt to a game, 02.  No more of this slacking off!
