Did anyone see "League in Denial" on Frontline, PBS, a couple of nights ago? Devastating for NFL football and for football generally. It's about the effects of concussions and the NFL's attempts to avoid/discredit those effects.

emma. I can't answer your question in full, but when I had DirecTV, I had their "Sports Package" which includedmmost of the Comcast and Fox sports stations across the country. If someone has that, I'm sure they will get the game. If not, they still may have it as a regional sports staion in a regular package.

Thanks Ret.
I fear you are right about the need to have the sports package included.
This is killing me.

No need to worry that much.

I see this game turning out to be much like the Stout/NCC game.

WIAC FOOTBALL TO BE TELEVISED "LIVE" ON FOX SPORTS

Madison, Wis.--The Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) announced today that an agreement has been reached with FOX Sports to broadcast three upcoming WIAC football games "live" on both FOX Sports Wisconsin and FOX Sports North.

The three games will feature two appearances each by UW-Platteville, UW-Stout and UW-Whitewater.  The match-ups, dates and airtimes are as follows:

•        UW-Stout @ UW-Whitewater on October 12 (2:30 p.m.)

•        UW-Stout @ UW-Platteville on October 26 (2:30 p.m.)

•        UW-Platteville @ UW-Whitewater on November 2 (1:00 p.m.)

The games will be carried across the state of Wisconsin on FOX Sports Wisconsin as well as across Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota and Iowa on the FOX Sports North PLUS channel.

Looks like they've got the Stout, Whitewater, Platteville round robin covered!

Bleed - I'm being told that only Stout, Platteville and Whitewater opted to be included in the Fox Sports Wisconsin Wisconsin/North WIAC TV coverage.

Why not the other schools?  I have not heard a definitive reason.

I obviously don't have the definitive reason, but I am willing to bet that others are concerned it will hurt their area/region recruiting opportunities.

Why would it hurt their recruiting opportunities?  I would think players would like the idea of their games televised.  What am I missing?

For what it is worth, my experience with high school atheletes is that unless they are 100% wanting to stay close to home, go to a specific school, that they want to play for a winner.  In the WIAC, and D3 no scholarships so it is not a matter of money, it typically comes down to; facilities, coaches, and a winning tradition.  That is one reason in my opinion why it takes so long for schools to reverse direction and re-establish themselves.   My thought was that coaches or athletic directors who make these decisions are afraid of match-ups where they might get clobbered and some local recruits might be impacted.    Obviously there are reasons and thoughts in opposition, but my experience with many administrators is that they have a tendency to be overly conservative and concerned too much about the downside and unwilling to take a risk.   That is why UWW was so fortunate to have coaches that scheduled Mt. Union and other top teams and then Athletic Directors like Paul Plinske who were willing to look more at a risk/reward equation from the what can be gained standpoint.

I agree that recruits want to win.  But I think they are smart enough to know that the team that is winning right now may not be the team that is winning in 4 years.  Last year's UWW seniors can attest to that - I'm sure they were very disappointed in how their senior year turned out.  I also think that recruits are attending the games at the schools they are interested in.  They are invited to attend games during the recruiting process.  I doubt if any are going to be surprised at anything they see on tv.  And since all games can be watched via the internet, what's the big deal?  The recruits are watching the games of the teams they are interested in whether they are on tv or not.  If schools are turning down the chance to play on tv (and do we really know if that is true or not?), I would think it was for other reasons.  And if this is the case, how does UWO fit in this scenario?  They're doing well.

So get the sports package -- it would be worth the $12, wouldn't it? I usually get the sports pack for a month or two for games like those.

I don't know why teams wouldn't want to be on TV, but I don't think last year's senior class at UW-W would be a great example of players who weren't as successful as it may have seemed they would be when they chose to attend a winning program. That class ended up with a record of 52-3 and three national championships.

I won't argue the fact that I'm cheap.
But hold on, are you saying that my Cable provider in IL offers the sports package that will have Fox Sports WI?
I sure hope you are as I'll be one happy camper.

I would check to make sure. But even at that, there are some weird rules, or weird interpretation of broadcast rules, by  cable/sattelite deliverers. A couple years ago, when I had DirecTV, REPLAYS of the WIAC games were blacked out. I have no idea of why any rule would require that. I repeat... REPLAYS OF DIII GAMES WERE BLACKED OUT.

I am having similar problems with TWC blacking out Minnesota Wild games on the NHL Package.

I did check w my provider- Wide Open West. Although they have a Fox Sports package, it only covers three regions- none of which include WI or Northern regions.
It was a good try though and thanks all for ideas.

There is a  FOX Sports  App that you can download on a tablet or phone.  Not sure if that helps?
