UW-Whitewater's defense entered the season with high expectations. This week's NCAA Division 3 statistics indicate Brian Borland's "D" has been playing rather well.

Here is where UWW stacks up in this week's national stats...

No. 1:  Total Defense (175.8 yds/game)
No. 1:  Turnover Margin (+13)

Mo. 3:  Scoring Defense (6.0 pts/game)
No. 3:   Passing Yards Allowed (97.0 yds/game)
No. 18  Rushing Defense (78.8 yds/game)

Today's Triple Take:

Most likely Top 25 team to get upset.
Ryan Xxxxxxx's (Ooops - Tipps) take: No. 10 UW-Whitewater.

Interesting.
What the hell was that?  That was a Drop-kick.  Drop-kick? How much is that worth?  Three points.  THREE POINTS?!

I think that is Tipps. Hence my earlier post.

Taking a look at the slate of games for the top 25- I think Mr. Tipps' pick of UWW is reasonable. He has to pick someone and other than Bethel, UWP is the only other choice I see as a potential upset. Both UWW and UWP face tough conference challenges. I'd have picked UWP for this week - but I'm just a wiwa cool aide drinker.

Interesting and as a matter of comparison, I looked at the same exact defensive statistics for Oshkosh and Stout and then 3 Offensive Statistics and then two Special Teams statistics and here is what I found a

Total Defense:              UWO - 50, UWS - 185
Scoring Defense:          UWO - 37, UWS - 106
Turnover Margin:          UWO - 0,   UWS - -1
Passing Yards Allowed:  UWO - 88, UWS - 224
Rushing Defense:         UWO - 57, UWS - 114

Total Offense:              UWO - 30,   UWS - 65,  UWW - 74
Rush Offense:              UWO - 107, UWS - 109, UWW - 105
Pass, Eff. Offense:        UWO - 21,   UWS - 140, UWW - 36

Kickoff Returns:           UWO - 73,    UWS - 142,  UWW - 5
Punt Returns:              UWO - 181,   UWS - 211,  UWW - 57

Add it all up and they still have to play the games every Saturday, but I like the fact that UWW appears to have all 3 phases contributing and specifically the last two games contributing strongly.

Now that we are in the WIAC Conference schedule, it is easy to look at our conference for an upset, we are afterall, the best/strongest conference in D3 according to D3football.com, so I have no problem with Mr. Tipps!  8-)

What I am concerned about is what Emma is putting in his cool-aide that he is not sharing with me.  ;D ;)

I don't think anyone has a problem with Ryan picking UW-Stout. I certainly don't. They have to pick someone. Given the entire nation to scan, I wouldn't expect the Triple Take guys or the 2/3 that are the Podcast guys to take notice that WIWA for a few more weeks. I am thinking on the Monday morning podcast November 4th, one of them may mention, "Whitewater is looking more like Whitewater again." Then as the playoffs progress we may hear a "Whitewater may be Whitewater again". Then after Linfield or UMHB, we will hear it. WIWA.

I would bring ya some of the WIWA KA Saturday, but I won't be there WD!! >:(

I wasn't going to do it, but I am going to clarify something. So, this was added through an edit. While I have no problem with Ryan picking UW-Stout, I disagree with Emma about it being reasonable. It's not reasonable. Now, the Triple Take guys may have had nothing but "unreasonable" options this week,, but the pick is not reasonable. Stout is 21 days and one game removed from trailing North Central 41-0 one play into the fourth quarter and yielding 36 first downs and 584 yards of Total Offense. Are they better than they were that day? Probably. Improved enough to come to UW-W and beat the Warhawks?  Unlikely.  Again, I love the Triple Take feature and I love those guys taking their shots at picking an upset. But I think it is reasonable of me to consider the pick unreasonable.  ;)

Now Bleed, I've been making significant progress moving passed my doubt of the Dub. The only way for me to defend my statement that Mr. Tipps' pick is reasonable is to dig up all the weaknesses i felt UWW had just one week ago.
I'm not going to do that. I'll just say he had reasons to make the pick be did and therefore, it must be reasonable.
I think his reason is misguided given UWP was still on the board as an upset selection.
We shall see 24 hours and change from now.

And no, I can't get Fox Sports package for free.

I know Emma. I wasn't  trying to call you out as much as I felt like I needed to clarify myself. No problem with Ryan or any of the guys picking whoever they want. Thought I should get out there why I disagree with it.
