The main reason I ask is because it would increase the conference to 8 teams and require only two non-conference games.

We already have 8 teams. You meant 9. And it's not gonna happen. Carry on.

Great win by whitewater...held that mighty UWP offense to just ONE offensive TD, very impressive.

We just need to get healthy. Looks like Huber was forced to play a little with Kumerow going out in the first series. Tough to see him in crutches on the sidelines. After watching the game at home, Kumerow was drilled in the hip, causing the fumble. I hope it's not serious. glad that Worth stepped up with Whitewater's top two receivers unable to go (at full speed).

WIWA? Not quite....The QB play seems to be two steps forward, one step back. MB accuracy concerns me.

As usual the defense is the best...I hope Wismer is ok. Josh Williams played one of his better games of his career, he was everywhere.

For the record, Oshkosh beats Platteville. UWP seems to struggle against tough defenses.

A really well played game by UWW today, especially defensively.  The first half stats were crazy- UWW around 300 and UWP less than 100 I believe.
UWW suffered a handful of injuries today, but guys stepped up.  We have several starters that need some healing time.  UWSP could be tough with the emotion difference and the injuries- this upcoming week will require some excellent coaching and I have total confidence in the staff to get it done.
Joe Worth is playing like a #1 receiver.  Steve Morris deserves credit as well.  He made some big catches and took a couple big hits.  He's open at times when MB is looking at others.

02, I feel the same about MB's accuracy.  It's not as though he has bad stats, it's more the passes he misses though.  His deep ball continues to be inconsistent and he had some issues hitting in-routes.  That said, I love his toughness.  He's a gamer and will give you all he's got.

Great job overall- two consecutive weeks beating top 10 teams- well done Warhawks.

First, as far as MB accuracy, I think it had a lot to do with two thing; first revolving door of receivers- due to injuries, timing is important, second ball security.  I think he throws it only where the receiver or nobody can get it.  The exception is two different routes where I agree with Emma, he looks uncomfortable.

Second, I pick UWO over UWP as well.

Third, our defense is the best in the country, if you look at who we have played.

Last, WIWA, there I have said it.  While we need to heal up and not take any games lightly, this team could go deep in the playoffs.

Welcome aboard the WIWA train, WD. It was only a matter of time.

With not being able to see the Packers crush the Bears until tomorrow night  ;D it allowed my mind to go into weird thoughts.

What come of it was wondering if there would be any way to persuade UW-Superior to re-start their football program. They still have the stadium and through this year has been rented and used by the local High School football team. Of course it would require renovations more then likely but with the stadium already there I would imagine it would help keep costs down.

The main reason I ask is because it would increase the conference to 8 teams and require only two non-conference games. This in my mind would greatly help the WIAC schedule games (though this seems to be more a UWW problem then the rest of the conference). Would also help cut down on travel costs (though Superior is way up there it has to be cheaper then say going to Buffalo State and other long flights like Platteville to L&C). Also would help with the new regional rankings so that NAIA teams would be less likely to be needed.

I know it's probably wishful thinking but we can all dream, can't we?!?b :-X

I think we would probably see UW-Milwaukee start up a NCAA football team before UW-Superior. I last read that Superior isn't even thinking about it. If they would, they would be light years behind in recruiting, in the best DIII conference no less. Talk about an up hill battle.

From a UWW's fan perspective, I would like to see UW-Superior's program start up before UW-Milwaukee. UWW has a decent pipeline with Milwaukee (and Chicago)...I wouldn't want UWM tapping into that.  ;)

For those of you who enjoy analyzing and sorting out statistics, I'd like to have you go through a ranking exercise  With 80% of the regular season and Regional Rankings upon us, I'd like to have you rank five anonymous teams. There are projections involved in the numbers I'm giving you.  Since the Regional Rankings and ultimate selection of teams is based on SOS and things like that, I'd like to shift the focus of this to overall season statistics. I guess a way to look at it is, if you had ONLY this information to go by, how would you seed the following teams? I'd appreciate anyone who takes the time to go through this. Obviously, weight the stats however you want and just seed the teams. But again, no cheating, kids!  ;)

It's really difficult to do so without the very important context of how strong a schedule these teams played.

The only way you can do this is to assume that they all played the same schedule.  Given that I rank them

1. Team 4  (44 points)
2. Team 3  (39 points)
3. Team 2  (35 points)
4. Team 1  (27 points)
5. Team 5  (19 points)

I know they didn't all play the same schedule so that makes it pretty much an exercise in futility. :D

I agree with that. And I definitely don't expect people to put a bunch of time into it. for the purposes of the exercise, the assumption is that the schedule is not a factor.

I should probably make it clear, this is not a projection of regional rankings, simply teams I've chosen to compare. I will give a few people a chance to respond and then talk about the teams I selected and the projections i included. I just wanted to see how people viewed this set of data apart from the perceptions of knowing the teams. And I know it doesn't mean they would rank the teams the same once they know. But from this limited data/production standpoint, I thought it would be interesting to see how people feel these teams stack up against one another.

Another left topic turn, what happened to the WIAC playing each other twice on a rotating basis? That was in the works, (wasn't it?).

Only done for two years 2010, 2011. I believe it was only supposed to be for two years as well as part of scheduling problems and cost concerns. I for one, am glad it's over.

It was a temporary thing that no one really liked.  Then when the league mandated the second meeting being the game that counted in the conference standings it was even more disliked.

retagent, it isn't a matter of their having no rushing game.  Before meeting our rush defense they were doing just fine at 167 yards/game.  Also it didn't help that they lost their leading rusher to injury last week.  With the exception of preseason and the first week teams generally aren't ranked on a single game.

FWIW, I like the Titans chances against them too.

I understand, but who did Platteville play? 167 yds/game is nothing to write home about when you play The Little Sisters of the Poor, the One Legged Pirates, Westwood Retirement Home and such opponents.

Why so crabby today? UW-P plays in the WIAC. Nuff said. We don't have teams like Hamline and St. Olaf over here.  ;)

I find it interesting that as UWW has risen to a position of dominance, the majority of its WIAC rivals have descended into mediocrity and worse.  This year Whitewater has an excellent team and Oshkosh and Platteville are good, BUT then there's everyone else.  Conversely, over in the MIAC as St. John's has fallen from its position of dominance, virtually all of its rivals are ascending.  Bethel is excellent and St. Thomas and Concordia are very good.  St. John's is still a decent team and up-and-coming Gustavus and dangerous Augsburg are on a par with the Johnnies.  Lightly regarded Carleton even  had Concordia on  the ropes in the 4th quarter Saturday.  If competitive balance is the measure of a great conference, then the WIAC's claims of superiority ring hollow at this moment in time.  Let's hope the WIAC doesn't go the way of the OAC, where Mt. Union essentially plays a 10-game exhibition schedule in preparation for the post-season.
