Someone should remind the Pointers' public address announcer that he's not a cheerleader.  PA announcers are neutral narrators of the game.

I prefer over the top announcers but if the same guy does basketball I know where you're coming from. I remember when he called Lou Hurd "Iceman"  after he hit a big 3 and generally had a very Randy "Macho Man" Savage motiff. Personally I love it but again I can see where it would irk some people.

Or maybe its someone completely different.

It's not the same guy as basketball, but the football guy has been a pain in the a** for years. I can't figure out why they've never replaced him. I recall a game years ago where he openly mocked the officials, for changing a decision.

EDIT: I should qualify... I haven't been to a Point home game in a few years, so IF it's the same guy, he's been a pain in the a** for years. If it's a new guy, then they found a new pain in the a**.

Prior to the season beginning the NCAA distributed a video that deals with the PA and other game officials such as clock operator, play clock operator, etc..  In it they make it clear how the PA is expected to announce the game.  I know this for a fact because I viewed it.  The PA is expected to be a neutral narrator of the game.  In theory they should use the same inflection of voice when announcing things for both teams.  If yesterday's performance was simply a matter of inflection I wouldn't have bothered to comment about it.  However it goes well beyond that when the PA starts telling the crowd to get loud when their opponent is facing third down or to get behind their team at critical points in the game.  It's simply unprofessional.

Just curious, is the use of "canned audio" considered an extension of the PA or is it separate? I have been to several stadiums where canned audio is used mostly to enthuse the home crowd and sometimes its use seems to extend too far.

Canned audio is separate, as they are usually administered by the marketing/promotions arm of the athletics department and don't fall under "game official" category. The Badgers use it on every defensive third down to try and rile the crowd, and most other D-I teams do too. It just cannot be played while play is in action. Technically, all of those P.A. items are simply "guidelines". They don't become "rules" until it's an NCAA Tournament event.

I don't care if a PA announcer is more excited for the home team than for the visitors. I expect that and actually think it's good. But cheerleading or intentionally downplaying the visitors is B.S.

I actually knew of a basketball P.A. guy once who would always announce "10 seconds on the shot clock" for the home team possessions, but not the visitors. I thought that was one of the worst PA violations I've ever seen.

My bad I didn't mean to imply that they are rules.

From the first half of the first quarter I could tell it was going to be an ugly game. Good thing I didn't have to watch it all the way through because of other commitments because I knew I wouldn't have been happy about it at the end. But a win is a win, and UWW has had many games like this throughout the 7 year streak.

Surprised that they moved above Bethel by a point, but I'll take that too!  ;D

The WARHAWKS varsity reserve team finished their season 3-0 with a 23-14 win over the Pointers today.  The Pointers rallied from a 10-7 deficit to lead 14-10 but the WARHAWKS scored 13 points in the game's final 5 minutes or so.

I was at the game and the defense played extremely well.  The offense was able to move the ball on the ground but the O line had a littel trouble keeping the D-line off the QB.  It is great to see a lot of talent on both sides of the ball and it bodes well for the future  I think a lot of these guys would be seeing considerable playing time on a lot of other D3 varsity teams.

One player was severely injured during the game.  Apparently there is no ambulance on standby at JV games.  It took 20 minutes for them to get there.  I think this is something the school needs to address for future games.

Agree completely.  Initially we thought it was a leg injury but after a while it became apparent if was far more serious than that.  After a while I commented that it was good thing that it wasn't a heart attack or something life threatening because he may not have made it in that case.  I don't know the extent of his injury but it was a relief to see him moving his arms and legs.  Hopefully he will fully recover.

You better become Johnnie fans this week, since I would guess that a Bethel win over St John's will give Bethel a nudge upward, and probable put them ahead of UWW, who, even though they are playing a team from the mighty WIAC.........................

Depends on this week's regional rankings. UWW kept its 3 in, will the MIAC? But you're right, I have to root for the Johnnies. Dun Dun Dun.....  ;)

My understanding is that it was a broken leg.

We should also all become Pacific fans this week. It's not hard to root against the Linfield fans.  ;D Plus it's a feel good story. Should probably also say they're the team (Pacific) that I've formed some sort of weird attachment too and root for in that coference. Which is why I'd like a home and away sereis with them and UWW.  :P

badgerwarhawk

Linfield will smoke Pacific.

It's interesting that you mention your "weird attachment" to Linfield and the NWC.  I've felt the same thing since our first meeting.  Initially it was just to poke good natured fun at the CatDome thing but it's matured into a respect for both.  The few Linfield fans I've met or interacted with all seem like pretty decent folk.
