Wow, UWW will have to beat the best team in the country (Linfield) just to get out of the region. Very tough region.

Of all the predictions I've read this past week, I don't think anyone predicted these placements of the #1 and #2 team in each region.

UWW wouldn't have to play the supposed Number 1 (Mount) until Salem. Linfield, the supposed Number 2 looked very vulnerable yesterday.

I still think they are the best in the country (not Mount). they have the defense of whitewater, with a much better offense. But Franklin scares me before we even get that far.

No disrespect to St. Norberts.

02,
I'm not sure which is funnier, you thinking Linfield has the defense of UW-W or you saying "no disrespect" to St. Norbert and misspelling the name of their school in the same sentence.   ;D

D O.C.

Our baggage is now 4 BIG injuries on that defense. Capable players to fill but with two D3 pre-season All Americans out....

We ARE vulnerable MasterJ - our feelings to mean things said about our team.

"You WILL say nice things about LINFIELD. Luke, get me a beer, please"

This translated to football (non-Linfield) language is:

I give -k and complain to high heaven if someone says anything non supportive of Linfield winning but we can say whatever we want. At least not all cats fans are like this though.  ::)

Obviously not saying anything bad about the kids getting hurt, that's horrible either way and then having to sit out and watch your teammates struggle without you being there to help. Also not why I was saying Linfield was vulnerable.

Obviously, I'm never happy about anyone getting hurt. Injuries are a bummer for sure. I feel badly for all of the kids hurt, but it's hard not to feel especially bad for Steele after what he went through last year and then battling all the way back. Also, it is really tough to replace his toughness and his leadership.  I'm sure Linfield has the depth that kids will step up and do fine. Understand this, D O.C., if I say or imply Linfield's defense is not UW-W's, it's not a criticism.  I don't think there is another D3 defense that is UW-W's. Anywhere.

And 02 should know better to say that there is!  ;)

I aim to please.  :P

Judging by how first-round games go in the playoffs for the top-ranked regional teams, it's hard not to look past the first round.....just as long as the coaches and players don't.

I think the Wash U/Franklin game is a great matchup. A high-flying offense against a very solid defense...should be a good one. First thought is that Franklin will advance, but I'm not 100% certain on that. Wash U's D has been absolutely outstanding all year.

Looks like I'm way behind on my Linfield news. I didn't realize their injuries were so extensive.

D O.C.

I really don't smite people. If PC has that mythical smite O meter he can vouch.

BTW, congratulations to voice on another year.

Looking at St. Norbert's stats (meaning, the stats of St. Norbert), they don't seem to have a real offensive identity.  It's going to be a tough game for them, and I certainly don't mean any disrespect.  In fact, I would rather UWW play Franklin the first game and let Wash U and St. Norbert have at it.  In today's day and age and focus on relativism, I have the utmost respect for kids that choose to go to religious institutions and in particular, Catholic Colleges.  I'll have a hard time rooting against them.

Enough of that emotional talk.
A couple observations on the brackets.
-I'd love to see a Mt. Union- NCC matchup.  NCC needs to finally make a statement on the national scene and Not lose before the semis.  As I seem to say every year around this time, I believe NCC has the talent to compete with anybody.
-As it seems every year, UWW will certainly have to earn it if they make it to the Stagg with both Linfield and MHB in the way.  I lean toward 02 in how I rank Linfield.
-If UWP doesn't stumble vs. Concordia, WI, their game vs. NCC should be really interesting.  I don't see how UWP will stop NCC, but at the same time, UWP will bring something to the table that NCC has struggled with in past playoffs, a really sound passing attack.
-I wouldn't be surprised at all to see Witt push Mt to the limit in round 2.
-I fully admit I'm not sold on Bethel yet and I don't think the brackets give them a chance to show if they are a top 4 team until the 3rd round.
-I think it really stinks that Linfield and PLU have to face off in the first round.
-I wouldn't be surprised if JCU's first round game vs. St. John Fisher is tougher than their second round game if they get that far.
-I do think there is a chance that some teams played it close to the vest in terms of showing a whole lot in the last couple of games.   Linfield, Franklin and maybe even St. Norbert are examples of teams that perhaps preferred to show less and run the risk of a closer/losing game.

I share your disdain for relativism. I have a lot of respect for kids who go to any Christian school, but I will have no trouble rooting against St. Norbert on Saturday.  I am bummed they lost Saturday. I know some people with ties to Concordia (WI) and I have a feeling they may have been UW-W's first round opponent if St. Norbert had won.

Speaking of respect, I also have respect for both Franklin and Wash U. for being willing to schedule the likes of UW-W and Mount. I don't have a dog in that fight, but it will be fun to see how it comes out.

D.O.C .... if I'm the "voice" you are referring to? Thanks!
Looking forward to the potential round 3 match-up of Linfield & U- double-dub at the Perk. Weather Channel just reported that the first half of December could include a couple of big time snow storms and temperatures well below normal. Just kidding!!
