So 27% think that Mount and UWW being on opposite sides of the bracket is the most surprising thing about the selection process, just slightly behind the 30% for Franklin and HSC getting home games and more then the 25% for Wesley at JHU. I don't get it.  ???

My guess, and it's only a guess, is that most saw UWW ranked below teams such as Linfield and UMHB all year, and think that, even though the Committee doesn't do the ranking, they would have had the human urge to put the teams ranked #1 and #2, or #1 and #3 on opposite ends, so they could meet in the Championship Game. Just a guess. I hope that was helpful.

Not at all, because the question has nothing to do with UWW being a number 1 seed but about them being on the other side of the bracket. I can see that as being surprising based on what you said (but not after knowing the regional rankings and what Pat and Keith predicted) but not about them being on opposite sides of the brackets. Hell, could still be UWW being an 8th seed on the other side and it would still be the same with the way the question is asked.

Here is my follow-up to my request of why the NCAA Division III Playoffs are plagued by poor attendance at many sites... BTW having been involved in marketing for the past 30 years and I feel looking for ways to increase attendance would be beneficial.

Thank you for your responses!

A Voices Eye on Football Blogspot Reader's Poll back in mid-November-2010 asked the question: What is the reason for the poor attendance at Perkins Stadium for the Warhawks playoff game vs. Franklin College?
Here are the final results of the poll
1. Deer Hunting (54%)
2. Too Cold (28%)
3. Increased cost of tickets including students (25%)
4. Why go because the Hawks will win anyway (19%)
5. Not interested after the regular season (3%)
6. Over saturation of live media coverage of game (3%)

Among the other "reasons" that came out of yesterday's request include:
1.   There are only so many (if any) free tickets that can be had for students and after that they won't pay.
2.   Students must pay to be admitted to NCAA playoff games
3.   Students home for the holidays (especially in the second round)

It's hard to tell how readers interpret the question.
From my perspective, I was curious if UWW would be on the opposite side of Mt.  When the bracket was released, I guess I was surprised, but only for a few seconds until I could find that UMHB and Linfield were also on opposite sides (all on UWW's side of course  :))
I'm glad the bracket sets up to allow for the potential of a Linfield, UMHB or UWW vs. Mt Stagg Bowl.  I would have been lastingly surprised if UMHB and Linfield were on Mt's side- that would have been disappointing.

For the record, I would have been fine with UWW and Mt being on the same side of the bracket.  UWW has to earn its way back.
for the record II, I also don't think Mt is as much a given in the Stagg this year.  I like that they will most likely have to get through NCC or Bethel.

If there is enough interest by the students in attending, which I would assume there is, could enough people be motivated to start a fund to buy tickets to be put into a pool for use by students ao they could attend at no cost to them?

I believe DLK Enterprises has purchased large blocks of tickets to distribute to students in the past. From what I can see it has helped, but only moderately. The demand/interest for playoffs just isn't there. Others know more than me on this, I'm sure.

I wonder if we'll FINALLY get to see NCC play Mount. I think they will give Mount a better game than Bethel.

That'a a shame. My initial memory of UWW in the Playoffs was the 2005 UWW/SJU tilt. My recollection is that there was a very good enthusiastic crowd. I guess the novelty has worn off.

retagent...

Announced last night. A limited number of FREE UWW student tickets are available at three separate locations beginning today. The tickets can be picked up (with student ID) at UWW Res Life, DLK Enterprises, and at the UWW Athletics Office in Williams Center.

The same promotion has been run prior D3 playoff games at the Perk for several years

I can understand that you believe that Bethel plays a bunch of weak sisters in their conference, and are a very inferior team. I find it very questionable that that conference even gets an AQ. That should be looked into. What is it about NCC thatstrikes your fancy?

You are correct. The Warhawks averaged 3000 per game in '05 and has had attendance drop in each of the successive playoff seasons. Even during the three consecutive national title seasons ('09, '10, 11)

Would be great, but that would mean NCC first getting through UWP. (sorry Albion, don't mean to overlook you). It seems that UWP has a prolific passing attack, something NCC has struggled with in the past.

It is interesting that UWP and NCC share 3 common opponents. I don't know if there's anything that we can take from that or not? Maybe one of you WIAC guys could give an early assessment of what is a very likely 2nd round matchup?

It has nothing to do with the conferences whatsoever.  I was just looking at the two teams, nothing more. I saw Bethel in the playoffs last year, and they didn't impress me much. They played a good first half, then were a no-show in the second half of that Oshkosh game.

Other than that, there really aren't any specifics on why I like NCC over Bethel...it's just my opinion.

Also, the MIAC being "weak sisters" is your statement....not mine.

UWW learned that if you get pressure on Kelly (UWP's QB), he really becomes inaccurate...and their offense shuts down. I think NCC has a strong enough defense to take care of that.

Also, UWP has a very average defense.
