I guess they forgot to tell St. Norbert that it was supposed to be a show; apparently the Knights think it's a game. 10-0 UWW at the half.

UWW's offense needs to stop making stupid penalties! Defense is good as always. St Norbert putting up a good fight, defense playing better then I thought they would too. Adjustments incoming!

MasterJedi

UWW fumbles but recovers, 4th down and 1, they go for it and makes it. 1st and goal at the 10.

MasterJedi

TD run by Givens! Finally starting to run the ball this half. XP Good! Finally starting to not make those mistakes that are making the St N defense look better.

I'm liking my prediction of Linfield knocking off UWW in round 3.

Nothing against UWW, they are still are a VERY young team on offense. They have some ways to go still. I can't wait to see this offense after a year or two experience under its belt.

Yes, I am a fan of Whitewater...but I'm a realist.  :-X

Linfield's injuries have been increasing each week and UWW's defense is better then Pacific's and Pac Lu's which will be the big equalizer. Yes, Linfield will be able to beat UWW, I just think they'll have to have a lot of fun with our defense if that's going to happen. And UWW just needs to not try its best not to run in the first half of a game like today.  :P

For the record...it was a F%$#%$# cold one in Whitewater today. Our fire pit in the parking lot saved lives today I think  ;)

If Franklin plays like they did this week they lose. I watched the first half and it was pretty ugly. From what I've read the second half was more of the same. So it will depend on which Franklin shows up, but if our offense shows up the whole game I'm predicting a 45-14 type win like the last time. Remember 02, drink the WIWA kool aide!

On another note, any info on Worth?

Interesting game at Whitewater today. First of all congratulations to the Warhawks on advancing and to the Green Knights on playing a hard fought game. I have to admit that St. Norbert is better than I thought they would be. I like the way their defense flies around and hits people.

I am glad that that the championship isn't decided by who played the best today. This was not one of UW-W's better games. Not to take anything away from St. Norbert, but the Warhawks have some things to clean up. I'm not at all complaining because at this stage of the season the name of the game is to "win and advance". That is all that matters (although doing so healthy is certainly a bonus). Some observations:

Very rough first half offensively. Between penalties, dropped passes, and missed assignments on the offensive line, the Hawks just didn't put together anything until that last drive of the half. Although UW-W out-gained the Green Knights in the first half 167 to 87, it didn't feel like it.

I think it may have been the worst game of the year for special teams. The field position game, which UW-W is usually great at winning, did not work out well for them. Part of it is a great job (or at least great results) by the St. Norbert punter. But the return game was not what it usually is either.

The defense was great of course. St. Norbert scored a TD in the second half on a nice drive. That doesn't happen too often to this defense.

After the game LL noted that some guys missed the game due to being banged up and that disrupted the continuity in some areas, especially in special teams.

Also after the game, Cole Klotz: "I'm going to go head and say it. We looked past this team and I think it's good we got this check in the first round."

All and all a win is a win. Time to get healthy and step up and rise to the challenge of round 2 next week!  Go Hawks!

At halftime I finally resigned myself to stop with the expectations of a consistent and productive offense and to just get comfortable with the team for what it is.  This is a team, IMO, that has the "athletes" on offense to score a couple touchdowns on any team they play, which is different than having a consistent and productive "offense".  Some days, no matter who the oppenent, the offense will struggle and will need to be carried.  Other days, no matter who the opponent, the athletes may just make plays.

Rather than letting myself get all worked up about offensive struggles, I'm going to do my best, as I did in the second half, to just enjoy watching the defense and the special teams keep UWW in the game, and, every now and again, watch one of the ahtletes on offense make a play.

Keep the injured Warhawks in your prayers.

Congrats to UW-Platteville for advancing today.

In looking at the stats of the Whitewater game, I should have mentioned Matt Behrendt in my previous comments. In a cold, windy, and overall nasty day, 24-38 for 279 yards and 3 TD's with 0 interceptions (of course)  is a pretty remarkable performance.

That play action bomb for a TD was a thing of beauty while the play action slipping TD had ugly skill written all over it. As I've said before I think UWW wanted to come out throwing because of St Norbert's run defense which hampered the offense in the first half. Once they started running the ball and getting good yardage it allowed the ball to be thrown even better too. As with every team, don't become one dimentional!

Especially with a half a dozen (or so) drops  .......
What the hell was that?  That was a Drop-kick.  Drop-kick? How much is that worth?  Three points.  THREE POINTS?!
