Wow, what a difference 8 years makesThis is one big lovefest as opposed to the banter prior to the 05 game;D But let me join in, 11 and Voice, both do great jobs on their websites for their teams.  Thank you to both! A huge congrats to the WARHAWKS on a big win Saturday and a fantastic defensive showing.  I could only listen to the broadcast as I helped wallpaper a wall in my older son's basement.  But will be back in the Perk on Saturday for the third installment of the Hawks/Cats clash!  Bringing The Blanchards with us! Can't wait. ;)

Hello 413,  looking forward to the big game ,  nice pic you gave Swede..  8-)Was that the real Super Man? ;)  Hot coco sounds good,  see you at the perk. 8-)

LOL, definitely.  Yes, Swede wanted a souvenir for his special decorating project so I got him the WARHAWK carpet and then as payback, I made him accept the picture as well.   ;D  Will give directions to my parking spot later in the week and I expect all you Cat posters to drop by and say hello.   :)

NCC has yet to face a dominant defense. Good ones, yes (IWU, Wheaton) but UWW/Mount type? no. This week will be a very big test of that. If Spencer Stanek can put up stats like he has all year against Bethel, then Salem is a real possibility.

Unlike some UW-W fans who put NCC at the highest of D3 levels, I would be more comfortable doing that after they beat Mount or UW-W. Without a doubt, they are really talented and a VERY high level team. Just the WAY they lost in the playoffs the last few years concerns me. It seems like they have found a way to lose at some point. Could they make it to Salem? ABSOLUTELY! Would I favor them to beat Mount or UW-W? Not until I see it happen once. Every team needs a breakthrough. From what most Mount posters say, this is not one of their most dominant teams. This is NCC's shot. If they don't do it this year, then it is apparent to me that they remain in that "almost" second level of really good, but not elite teams.

Mr. Ypsi

Agreed, by this CCIW fan.  The 2011 loss to Wabash (the LGs had 22 unanswered points in the 4th quarter to win 29-28) took a lot of our confidence away.  Until then we thought NCC had reached elite status.  Now, until they have a breakthrough, they are almost elite.

With Peterson apparently out for the season, they should beat Bethel.  So they may finally (two years belatedly) get their shot at The Machine.

The rest of the CCIW (well, IWU and Wheaton ;)) are really rooting for them.  If we can't very often wrest away the conference title, it would at least be good to know that it's because we are facing a TRULY elite team! ;D

I guess I'll throw the first stone. UWW wins! *ducks*  :-X

I agree completely. The difference I see from this NCC team vs past is the lack of turnovers. Spencer Stanek had double digit interceptions in 2010 and 2012. This year he has 1. He is completing 74% of his passes. This offense has been scary effecient. I agree this is their best shot yet.

I think the timing for NCC is perfect to finally get that break thru win.  They have a multi-year starter at QB that is playing his best ball.   They're experienced and hungry.   Bethel is reportedly playing without their All-MIAC QB and next round will be a very inexperienced Mount team that has been really struggling defensively.  Especially against the pass.   Mount is still good and is led by a stud playmaker at QB, but overall this team reminds me very much of the 2004 team that lost to MHB in the Semi's.   Good, but not dominant in any one facet of the game.   If not this season, then when for NCC?

The difference could end up being whether Bethel or NCC have a defense that can catch Kevin Burke and eliminate his big scrambling plays.   I'm confident in saying that UWW and MHB both have the defensive speed and size in the front 4 to do so without blitzing.  Time will tell if anyone on Mount's half of the bracket does.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

I would look at the St. Thomas vs. Mount Union National Championship game, even though he was very efficient in the passing, I think UST did a really good job containing him for the most part.
