footballfan413,

The UWW vs UMHB regular season game in 2006 (Oct. 28) played in Texas was one of the best 7-3 games I have ever witnessed. Great hard-hitting and intense defense played by both teams that day.

Great game. Back when Keith and I still traveled around to do audio broadcasts of big games. :)

For some reason, knowing the magnitude of the game, I made sure I took an extra couple seconds to prepare myself to call the opening kickoff. If I hadn't, I might have messed up the game's only touchdown.

The early forecast for Saturday in Belton per Weather Underground is: "Sunny skies. High around 55F. Winds NW at 10 to 20 mph." If the wind forecast holds true it will play a factor in the game, though it will not be as bad as the 2008 semifinal when UWW came to Texas. While the UMHB faithful would like to, I don't think any CRU fans can forget the minus-yards kickoff UMHB had to open the second half of that game. It was bizarre and ugly (at least from the UMHB perspective  ;D) at the same time.
Absolutely, Kelly, one of the greatest defensive battles, I have seen for sure.  I have a couple of behind the scenes fun stories.  Tom Hughes, an ex-warhawk who took up photography in retirement and took many wonderful action photos of the games for many years, was in the end zone that day.  He said, that, after DE Ryan Kleppe made some fabulous plays/sacks, the Cru players were screaming at each other!  "You have to block him! The other player yelled back.  YOU f%^$#@* block him!  I can't block him!"  LOL    Pretty sure that Ryan's performance helped land him the, "D-3 Football Defensive Player of the Year," that day with Pat and Keith seeing it all, firsthand.  Right, Pat?    ;)
And, I was walking my 84 year old mother-in-the-law, who lived in San Antonio at the time, into the stadium through a back gate to limit how much she had to walk.  A coach was standing where the canopy/tunnel met the field on the visitor side and I felt like we had just been busted.   I asked him if that was ok because we did have tickets.  He said, "of course, go right on in," and as I walked by him, wearing  my son's jersey, he then said, "Ma'am, your son is a hell of a player."  I said, "thank you, Coach, but you weren't suppose to know about him.  We were trying to keep him a secret."  He just chuckled.  And in a bit of irony, A.J. signed with the Saskatchewan Roughriders in Canada as a DE, in 09 along with Jerrell Freeman who had been brought in as a LB.  My son ended up being cut, (which turned out to be a blessing in disguise when he was diagnosed with testicular cancer 5 months later,) when an old foot injury acted up but Jerrell went on to a fabulous LB career in Canada and now the NFL.  A.J. said he was a terrific guy and they had a few days to reminisce and share some details of that 06 game.   ;)
"Of course, that's just my opinion, I could be wrong!"  Dennis Miller

"Three things you don't want to be in football, slow, small and friendly!"  John Madden

"You can learn more character on the two-yard line than anywhere else in
life." Paul Dietzel / LSU

Good stuff, 413, thanks for sharing. I'm hoping for another epic battle this Saturday, with a little different outcome.   :)

I suppose there aren't any viewing parties for the semi finals around Milwaukee? usually we only see those pop up for the Stagg Bowl.

voice, I know you do a good job of posting those.

Linfield fans had a couple viewing parties they promoted last week. I've talked to several Hawk fans the past couple of days just wondering if any big ESPN 3 viewing party is planned.

I'm not going to be in Texas and am looking for a happening spot to do my in-game Website work and twitter bomb duties. If anybody has ideas please chime in!

Excellent news and most well deserved for Coach Leipold.  With all the new players and coaches this year, and the bounce back from last year, he's done a remarkable job.

I really don't see Whitewater running into any trouble this week. I just think you may run into a buzzsaw vs. NCC.  8-)

The statistic that stands out the most to me is the Turnover margin. Most of our turnovers were early in the season when Anderson was still getting his feet under him. He has been very good of late, save last game, and has really taken care of the ball well. Thanks for doing the research, though.
Watch out for the wreckingCRU defense!!

I have searched hi and low for a sensible plan to get to Belton for this Saturday's game and it just isn't working.  I have my company Christmas party (not holiday) Friday night and I'd consider missing if the rest made sense.  Amtrak is 21 hours to Dallas/Ft. Worth, but it arrives too late to get to Belton.  Flights are not only expensive, but the arrival and departure times mostly require a two-night stay to make it happen.  Driving is 16-17 hours without stops.  I'd definitely consider it, but then the big question becomes "What IF UWW makes it to the Stagg?".  Now you're talking two weeks in a row of taking off work 1-2 days each week.
In no way am I assuming a win, but it's a bit shortsighted not to think through the possibility.

Conversely, IF UWW doesn't make it to the Stagg, now I've lost an opportunity to cheer on the team in their last playoff game.
Sometimes it's really hard having to make adult decisions.

You could always simply drive northeast instead of north.  My bracket says the second drive isn't going to be needed.  My bracket also says Mount Union has one more win left in them this year.

I would wager that your bracket misspoke quite a few times about the Stagg Bowl over the past 7 years or so.  ;)

I want to see some credentials :)

Unfortunately, you're right I think 5 times.  Each time that UWW won, and there was one year that I thought Mount Union would lose to the Warhawks and was wrong that year, too.
