Actually, considering the bureaucracy of the UW system, it's amazing that they even have athletic programs.  Why do you think they are limited to 100?

You could make an argument that it is EASIER to put together a successful program at a private school than at a state system school.
What the hell was that?  That was a Drop-kick.  Drop-kick? How much is that worth?  Three points.  THREE POINTS?!

It's a bit off topic but I was listening to sports radio on my way in this morning, very entertaining down here in the land of the Tide and Tigers, and some locals were bemoaning the lack of support UAB (University of Alabama Birmingham) gets from the Alabama University Board of Trustees. In terms of football they have a horrible stadium, miserable practice facilities, cheaply paid coaches (the hc just bolted to be a Petrino assistant at Louisville), etc... A caller came in and made the point UAB should be thankful they have a D1 football program at all, since in states like Wisconsin it is the flagship University or intramurals. Not a direct quote, but Wisconsin was specifically used as was intramurals.

Yeah... D3 does not get a lot of love down here, but I thought it was mildly pathetic that the state with a multiple D3 football champion was being used in that example.

There's a school down your way that has a D I hockey program. There might be some who say that it has an advantage in that it is a warm weather state, which could be quite a draw. While that's true, I doubt that it can overcome advantages that colleges like Minnesota, BC. BU and North Dakota have. Those are the type of nuances we are talking about here. They do have some competitive teams sometimes, but....

And each program will have fans that look for excuses when they lose to a team that, at least on that day (or in that season), is better.

And there we have it....the truth. Hence why these arguments were never made prior to 2005 on this board.

I wonder how Whitewater could have possibly turned the corner in 2005? I bet at the turn of the century UWW bottomed out their academic standards, cut their tuition in half, while doubling their enrollment....just so they could have an advantage in athletics. That's the only possible reason for their recent success. Coaches and recruiting couldn't possibly have done it alone.

I agree.  I wish I could do a "permanent copy and paste" of MonroviaCat's post on my computer and use it each time an excuse-maker wants to justify why a different team wins (games, championships, or multiple championships) or their team loses.

You could just ave it as your "signature" at the bottom of each post! :)  As long as you quote your source.  :)

BTW, Bluenote, I haven't seen any looney posts since you started all this. ::)

....I have....yours.  :-*

Would you mind spelling out what exactly was looney about my post?

(For those entering late, I merely pointed out that comparing high schools with colleges in terms of size was daft, since colleges recruit, while most high schools are simply dependent on the enrolled students.  Hardly seems looney to me!)

Truce it is. And good catch on "You're my boy, Blue". I can't watch that without laughing. I don't even know why. WF can do the stupidest things that aren't even funny and I laugh anyway.   ;)

OK sounds good...I'm going to erase my post where I got upset....I think if you erased a few we'd make 413 feel better too....need MonroviaCat to do the same.....

Blue

...got a text in to MonroviaCat but he hasn't responded about removing post.... ::)
No need to remove anything on my account.  My absence from the discussion since late Friday morning was the result of having hand surgery Friday afternoon.  Makes it hard to be a, "chest thumper," with only one hand.   ;).   And using the hunt and peck method of typing for a week or so will seriously limit my ability to bloviate.    ;D

Sorry, I couldn't resist.  Anyway, I do have a couple of pet peaves, one of them is the public/private debate and the other is when a defense is not given enough credit for a poor offensive performance and yes, they push my buttons and yes, I have never been accused of being a women of too few words.  :D
A truce is fine with me, Blue, not nearly as much fun, though.   I appreciate your concern for me. My respect and love for the Cat's program started when we traveled there in 05 for the greatest game I have ever witnessed.  I am happy and proud to call many Linfield posters my friends.  Nothing will change that.  Now, I need to go take another round of pain meds and watch some football.  Go Panthers and Bronco's!

And BP, for the record, I have no problem ever being. "lumped," in with you!    8-)
