Good luck to him.  I hope he can put his past problems behind him and find success at RF.  A nice pick up if it works out.

Andre McDonald transfers from the U to River Falls.  Great athlete, just a small weed problem.

Good for him. I hope he makes the most out of a fresh start. I look forward to watching him play.

Being a collegiate athlete is not easy at any level.  Some come through it unscathed, others lose their path, at times.  He sounds like he is finding his way back, love his perspective about life after football, so important for him to succeed with this second chance.  Best of luck to him and the Falcons program.

If McDonald does indeed play for the Falcons he will be the best athlete on the field in every game he plays.  I watched him play just about every game in high school.  There are not many, if any, D3 receivers with his talent.  U$T dodgers a huge bullet not having River Falls on their schedule next year.  UWRF returns a very good quarterback and he a McDonald should put up massive numbers.  I just hope their not on the same page yet on Sept. 6th, 2014.  ;)

I have no doubt he's a good athlete, and will probably be their best receiver since the Michael Zweifel years. However, the team is coming off a winless season and will need more than a "potential" good receiver to turn their program around in one year. Yes, they are headed in the right direction, but I wouldn't go as far as to say UST dodges a bullet by not having to schedule them. Even with McDonald, they still are a team with a ton of holes.

This seems very similar to when Booker Stanley enrolled at Whitewater a few years ago. I remember some overzealous Badgers fans telling me that Stanley will take over the starting role at RB. I just rolled my eyes, and said "Leipold isn't going to bench his All-American for a guy who's been out of football for 2-3 years."  Booker, playing previously at U of Wisconsin, obviously had D1 talent/experience, wasn't even the best RB on the team at Whitewater...let alone D3. I guess we'll see how McDonald measures up to the rest of the WRs in D3 next season. I have a feeling it's not going to be quite as easy for him as people think, especially playing in the WIAC.

I wish him the best though, I'm for anything that'll improve the WIAC  :)

I'm guessing UWRF's basketball team (a more individual sport) will get a bigger boost with the acquisition of McDonald, than the football team.

The UW-Whitewater football team has yet to announce its 2014 football schedule however Franklin College released its '14 schedule today indicating that the Warhawks will travel to Franklin on September 13th in Week-two non-conference action. The two teams met in week-two of the 2013 playoffs.

I believe so. It states that in the article that AO posted.

Good to know.  They re-set the conference schedule for the WIAC in 2013, so that usually means they just flip the home and away teams for 2014.
What the hell was that?  That was a Drop-kick.  Drop-kick? How much is that worth?  Three points.  THREE POINTS?!

McDonald has not been out of the game and idle for several years as was the case with Stanley (as you pointed out). He is clearly an elite athlete as he was ranked #1 in ESPNU's Top 150 in Minnesota coming into his senior year of high school. I agree with you that none of that means he will strut into the WIAC and dominate. However, if he keeps his "game" together off the field, he will be a VERY dangerous and welcome weapon for the Falcons. I agree with you that it doesn't mean UST "dodged a bullet". However, I do think he will have a pretty big impact on the football field. I couldn't find much about him regarding basketball other than he intends to play at UWRF. Is he a stud in hoops as well?

AO commented a little on his BB skills on the WIAC bball thread.

If he keeps his off-field stuff together, AND he comes to UW-RF and works hard, yes. Anyone who struts in from D-I to D-III and thinks he can dominate is generally proven wrong pretty quickly. It's not like an NFL player going to play pro in Germany.
