Based on my last conversation with Coach Liepold (late March) I would say that unless something has changed in the past couple weeks you are too hopeful.

If you get a chance go and see Draft Day.  I took it in yesterday and thought it was pretty good.  Video clips of the BADGERS and Tyler Donovan in a game against Ohio State.

Arbitrator rules in favor of Todd Hoffner....

http://footballscoop.com/news/13166-todd-hoffner-a-minnesota-arbitrator-and-one-very-awkward-situation

Hoffner, former head coach at UW-EC and UM-Mankato, was arrested and fired when pictures of his children were found on a university issued smart phone.  In the rush to justice his life was made a living hell before charges were dismissed.  It will be interesting to see how this all plays out.

This situation is really unprecedented. An arbitrator rules he can have his old job back at UM-Mankato to right the wrong, even though a full staff in place has been in place for 2 years (And is 21-2 over those two years!).  And now today, according to football scoop, Hoffner announces he IS returning to Mankato! Wow!

I think it's a good rule and the exceptions would seem to take care of situations in which the rusher either has no control or the QB has become a runner.

The only way this gets resolved is if Mankato administration ponies up enough money to make Todd Hoffner voluntarily go away. And that's going to be a big chunk of cash now that he's won this ruling.

While they're writing that check, the administrators should also go ahead and sign their own resignation letters for botching this is a way few things have ever been botched before.

My fear is that there is more to the story.  I assume the majority of upper-classmen on the team were recruited by Hoffner and would have had a relationship with him.  Now they won't practice with him as head coach?  I get that they like the new guy, but I don't buy the idea that they aren't mature enough to think this through a bit more.  Why would upper-classmen on the team not think of the impact striking would have on a guy that has been through so much?  I would think that they must have considered talking with Hoffner/new coach/admin first, before the publicity attracting strike.

If they didn't at least think of talking with Hoffner first, then shame on them for being absolutely inconsiderate and without compassion.

Crazy story.  Hoffner was wronged and didn't deserve the overzealous prosecution.  The arbitrator corrected that wrong but I do feel bad for the players for being caught in the middle of this.  Egg on the University's face for not bring the staff, administrators, and players together before this went down.  Yikes.

I agree. I do wonder though if Emma's suspicion is true and there is more to the story. I wonder if part of the "more" is that the university DID bring the team together and the message they sent resulted in this action.  My life experience tells me that getting 100% unanimity (whether a vote, an opinion, or an action) with 100 or more people requires significant coordination and/or pressure.  And my other thought is that many of these kids are on scholarship. If the university were NOT behind it, would there not be significant risk in refusing to do spring practice under terms of their scholarship?

As a UWEC Blugold alum, I have reserved any comments on the Hoffner case updates... But I, too, think there is perhaps more to the story in Mankato than we are hearing about, and if it comes out, perhaps I'll weigh in on this strange situation then...

Meanwhile, in Blugold country, there seems to be a need to mess with tradition, in recent attempts to get an official mascot, and now, a changing of the university motto, which was: "Excellence. Our motto, our measure, our goal."
The new, rebranded motto?  "The Power of AND"...

Raise your hands if, without reading the story, you know what the h*ll that's supposed to mean? Boys and girls, if an explanation is needed, it probably isn't a good marketing campaign. But what the h*ll do I know?; I graduated from there...   ;)  (Nor was I part of the 3,000 people it took to come up with that slogan, and, thank goodness, haven't made an alum financial contribution in the last few years, so I'm not upset that any of my dollars were part of the $14,000 spent on launching this campaign... Anyway, it's right up there with the Wisconsin state slogan adopted in 2009 - Live Like You Mean It...)

http://www.weau.com/home/headlines/UW-Eau-Claire-rebrands-itself-with-new-motto-The-Power-of-AND-255562071.html

OK. That's my rant of the day; I feel, after 1000 posts here in support of my alma mater, that I am entitled to one pot shot, eh?
And, like Just Bill likes to say... Get off my lawn!  ;)

Perhaps an example such as "Marketing Manager AND Unemployed" would best describe this brilliant idea.
3,000 people contributed to this.....really..... The world  truly is going to H3LL in a hand-basket :-\
