It says UWW scored on 16 sports, while Williams scored on 17 sports. If you count up all Willaims' sports (Fall, Winter and Spring) in the standings, Williams has 21 sports listed. They could only post their best 17 because they exceed the (9 women and 9 men maximum)

Williams has now won 17 of the last 19 Cups!!!

Great showing by the WIAC...well done!

I noticed that Williams got 90 points for women's rowing, and only 6 schools out of all division 3 (323 schools) even got points for women's rowing (UWW got 100 points for baseball)

the website does explain how some sports have less teams than others, but it doesn't really make too much sense to me.  I think a #1 team in baseball should get more than the #1 team in rowing, women's or men's, since there are simply more teams competing.

Unless something drastically changes, it's nearly impossible to beat Williams in the Director's Cup. This year, probably more than any other years shows that. You'd probably need to score in all 18 possible sports (if you even have that many) and win four or five national titles and go top 8 in another 4 or 5 sports.

I don't think a school can do much better with only 16 participating sports. This will always be a NESCAC dominated competition, and I'm cool with that.

Those 21 sports for Williams doesn't even include their football program, because of their refusal to play in the post season.

I somewhat doubt they would score pass the second round (if that).

That's always been a criticism of the Director's Cup in that every sport is weighted the same weather it has 60 sponsoring schools or 420 sponsoring schools.

I take it all with a grain of salt. I find it more useful to compare teams within the same conference (since in most cases they have similar sport offerings) than to compare teams across conferences.

In defense of the SIDs Platteville made sense preseason when the poll was taken.  They had finished 2nd the previous year and returned 9 starters on the #1 conference ranked offense.  While defensively they had only ranked 4th and were returning 6 starters I'm suspect offense tends to get your attention.  So while it wasn't the vote I would have cast I don't think it was "silly."

And you have to remember that none of the SIDs yet realized WIWA.   Heck, some of us weren't even sure of that at that point in time.  :)

Yep, I thought Platteville was the better team heading into that season.

No, it was just silly. All you would have had to do was read this thread before the conference season started :)

So in my galaxy UWW football is the center of our universe and therfore, I'm a bit surprised UWW-Buff State didn't appear in Triple Take today.  No mention in the Surprisingly Close or Top 25 Team to be Upset categories.  Keith's take on Top 25 Team to be Upset is "No major upsets".  I don't know if that means he thinks UWW will win or if he wouldn't consider it a major upset if they lost.

The former is probably correct. But I'm shocked as well this game wasn't mentioned. At the same time it gives me some comfort it wasn't mentioned.

The D3 poll has UW-W at number 15 and BSU unranked. Of course it would be a major upset if they lost. Besides, the category doesn't even call for "Major" upset, it calls for "Most likely Top 25 team to be upset".  If they felt like UW-W was likely to be upset, they would have listed them. Clearly they don't expect that, nor should they.

As for your question regarding Saturday's game helping them, it certainly will help to get an in-region win. One of the sub-criteria is "opponents win %", so it may not help them that much. However, I fully expect the Pioneers to be a solid pool C candidate.  ;D

Thank-you for giving me a laugh and a smile!   Yes Pool C, the non-automatic qualifiers, which means someone else will win the conference and get the Pool A automatic.    Got to love your thought process.   I wonder which University of Wisconsin - WIAC school you are leaning towards?   ;D 8-) ;D

Well, not the team that has not won a WIAC championship since 1980 (UW-P) nor the team that won its first in 36 years last year. When an occurance travels that far outside the norm, normalcy tends to return rather quickly. I am expecting a return to normalcy in 2013.  ;)

You guys were due for an "I told you so" on this one.  ;D

Careful -- for some schools, you can make up a brand-new award and they'll send a press release about it.

In 2012 I computed the "Ypsi Cup", adjusting Director's Cup points by the participation ratio.  It did change the national champion from Middlebury (one of the few years Williams didn't win) to WashU.  If someone wanted to tackle that for this year, I'm guessing UWW would pass Williams for the title.

(Details on the methodology on the Directors Cup thread on the General DIII Issues board.)

Stupid observation:

TCNJ (The College of New Jersey) has to be one of the few college acronyms where "the" is included. Can anyone think of any other's off the top of their head?
