Roster is up http://www.uwwsports.com/roster.aspx?path=football

Good looking roster- casual observances:
- Lots of DB's
- Best name: WR - Freddy Bobo
- M  Bratchett- great bow tie
- Some really big tight ends (sounds funny)
- Some good sized new O Linemen

Between the roster coming out this morning and now, Regan has gained 28 pounds. The roster now reads 260, which is closer to his current playing weight.

Year four of coach Dettwiler's era at UWL has arrived, and it is time for the Eagles to take a step towards returning to WIAC prominence. It appears that some of the pieces of the puzzle are being put into place, but a daunting schedule awaits. Five of the  ten games are against  top twenty teams, including the top two and number eight. Four of the games against ranked teams come in the first five weeks of the season, which makes the opener against Dubuque especially important. More on that later. The offense has never really clicked on a consistent basis over the past three years, but the coaches believe the corner is about to be turned. The administration ponied up for another coaching position last year, and it was used for an offensive line coach. This year's line is said to be the best we have had in several years, and is eager to prove it. Junior D2 transfer Trent Cummings is the QB, also said to be an upgrade at the position. Senior Ben Hertrampf of Fennimore is back at RB, and the WR position will feature Tony Bilderback of Whitewater H.S. and Tony Favre of La Crosse Aquinas. We look for a more potent offense this year, and I predict we won't be disappointed. LB Shane Rockweiler of Reedsburg anchors a defense that will feature a more "vanilla" approach to denying points to opponents. The Iowa Hawkeye "bend, don't break" philosophy is the template for this unit. Tomorrow's game at Dubuque and the game at Steven's Point strike me as key games to the season. While an extremely knowledgeable observer predicts six wins, I agree with the D3 Kickoff prediction of 4-3 in the WIAC and 5-5 overall. La Crosse beats Dubuque 24-17.

Looks like Whitewater's defense is going to get tested right off the bat this season. Waldorf has won two games already this year: 48-0 and 68-42. The 48-0 game was against Mayville State University (NAIA), who had a respectable 7-4 season last year. The 68-42 game was against Trinity Bible College. They lost to Waldorf only 13-2 in 2013. So based on the Trinity score from 2013 to 2014, it's fair to say Waldorf improved quite a bit. Their offense did at least.

We'll see how that equates to DIII though....history suggests they are a tier below us, but we'll see tomorrow.

Or not....

Whitewater looked good in all stages of the game tonight. I think we will get a better feel for how good they really are next week.  This game was over about 5 minutes into the first quarter. I was pleased to see the defensive coaches chewing some guys out when they let them drive down and score.  The game should have been a shut out but I guess winning by 66 will work. Decent crowd of over 7000 but it dropped to about 2000 after halftime when all the students left.

Excellent performance by the Hawks for an opening game. Very few mistakes and execution was sharp in all areas.
First time I can remember a game where starters were pulled midway through 1st quarter. This was a great opportunity for QB Chris Nelson to get real game experience.
I'm sure it's hard for the starters to watch so much of the game from the sideline- I hope they see the value in it. This will hopefully be a long season for them.
Well done coaching staff and players!

From the score it looks like Eau Claire gave St Thomas a really good game. Are they better than expected?  Wish I had seen this game.
