This may be "grasping at straws," and if so I'm guilty. RF gave Point their 17-14 win by turning the ball over SIX times on 3 fumbles, 3 ints. But many times after those turnovers, the D stopped the Pointer O on downs, and limited Larson, Point's qb, to 22/46 completions. He was also intercepted for first time this season, and came into the game averaging 65% completions. The Falcon  offensive blunders came after a zero turnover game in S. Dakota. Obviously, consistency is what's needed, which makes Matt B's performance for WW all the more amazing.

So we're competitive, but nobody around here feels very good about that.

After yesterday's conference results, WW looks to be head and shoulders above everybody else. Yeah, I know, it's early, so I hope I'm wrong about that.

Hang in there Falcon- UWRF is definitely getting the attention it deserves as a dangerous team. Congrats to them for nearly pulling the upset. Your team should be primed for a good shot at UWP next week.
UWSP looks like the type of team that finds a way to win in all sorts of ways.

That is an amazing stat. You have to remember that probably half of all interceptions are not the fault of the QB. Receivers can fall down on a cut. They could break off a route for one reason or another, and the QB could throw just prior to that development. Passes can go off hands, get tipped at the line of scrimmage, or beyond. Just as a matter of "bad luck" you would thing there would be at least 1% or 2% being intercepted. It's almost like me lipping out 9 out of 10 lipped putts this year. I have no explanation for either. ;D

This is a really good point and you are right, it does make Matt's stats all the more amazing.  Regarding the putts, just use my expanded version of "winter rules". Applicable Rule  5B: "If any part of the ball goes across any part of the cup at any time, the shot shall be considered made."  It immediately follows 5A: "For the safety of all players and small animals on the course, any ball resting within 15 feet of the cup by the estimate of the shooter shall be considered a "gimme" and the ball shall be picked up and the next shot is considered made."

It was great to be back at the Perk for the first time this season. A lot more people showed up for the game with the temperature and the weather then I thought would which is great. That was a pretty loud and rowdy UWL crowd too.

Consider what it would've been like if they actually had something to cheer about?   ;D

That had to be painful, FF. I'm guessing that game had a really odd feel to it. It is really rare for a team who is (-5) in turnover margin to be within 3 points at game's end. Then you throw in the fact that they were out-gained, albeit slightly, in passing yards, rushing yards, and return yards and it feels like even more of an oddity. Too bad Point didn't pass up the field goal attempt the first time they had the ball like they did the rest of the game. Point "went for it" 6 times on fourth down!  Boy that seems like a lot, especially in a close, low scoring game.  Nice job by the Falcons stopping them 5 out of 6 times!  I'm sure having 10 penalties for 101 yards bogged down Point's offense. At least, I'm assuming most of the penalties were on the offense.  As Emma said, hang in there, Fred.  The Falcons will run through that WIAC wall and get a win soon.

If you don't at least smile, then you officially need one more cup of coffee!

AppletonRocks

May be a quarterback change at Stout.  Second half vs. Oshkosh they used Garrett Peterson, a sophomore from Appleton East who threw one TD and one INT.  Peterson did not make too much noise in high school, as the Pat Schwanke led Patriots did not throw the ball unless they had to.

Will be interesting to see how this develops.

I understand Kumerow is a fantastic target in the red zone- I do worry about a lack of distribution to other receivers though.

Well there's a problem a lot of teams would like to have!  One of the things I've always marveled at is the ability of both UW-W and Mount to keep things under wraps until a certain point in the season (sometimes all the way until the Stagg Bowl).  I wonder...

yeah.....kinda like putting Kumerow in the backfield and then putting him into motion....or having him run a route straight from the backfield.....where did I see that happen?   ;D 8-)

Regarding Behrendt, I hate to use the cliche "taking what the defense give you"....but is the epitome of that or what? He's such an intelligent QB, and doesn't force anything that's not there. He's the anti-Cutler. He's thrown 1 INT over the past season and a half now (546 attempts)!!!

The only time he throws a 50/50 ball is when it's to Kumerow. And frankly...do you blame him?? Kumerow comes down with just about every thing. That one grab down the sideline against La Crosse was a thing of beauty. The DB was between him and the ball, but Jake still managed to come down with it.
