I can be guilty of believing without proof that the UWW coaching staff doesn't always worry about maximizing each game, but rather uses some individual games to work toward big picture goals.

For teams that can afford this kind of dicking around (of which there are only a few), I think this is a wise approach, whether those coaches will admit to it or not (and they probably shouldn't, lest their athletes decide not to take a game seriously).  But I think getting a few other guys involved in the offense, working on the passing game (for a running team), trying a different blitz package, etc are all good things to do in games where the outcome is unlikely to be in doubt.

There was a nice article on the San Antonio Spurs during last year's basketball playoffs that said one of the reasons their bench was perceived to be so deep is that in regular season games where Popovich famously rests a few starters, the bench guys are initiating the offense, taking the end-of-quarter and end-of-game shots, and doing things that develop their skills so they are ready to be the guy if/when they're needed.
I was small but made up for it by being slow...

I turned off the audio, too.  The KOOL guys were much more palatable.  And the sync was close enough to get by.

KOOL guys are not only palatable - they are good!  Gary Douglas is one of the top five "play-by-play" announcers in the state!!

Just curious, who are the other four on your mini list?

Mine would include Wayne Larrivee and Matt LePay at the top.  Bob Uecker next.

Brewers TV is OK, Steve the Homer pretty good.  Never listen to Bucks games, so no basis there - likewise any other state schools!
What the hell was that?  That was a Drop-kick.  Drop-kick? How much is that worth?  Three points.  THREE POINTS?!

Clearly, you didn't make it 25 seconds into the video.

"5 Things to Watch: UW-W at UW-Stout"
and
"How did you know?": WIAC Predictions

Both now posted at www.warhawkfootball.com

Interesting story about Stout's Jenny- I now have another player to watch- thanks for letting us know Bleed.
All eyes on UWSP and UWO to see if they are upper tier WIAC or middle of the pack.

Jenny didn't play in the second half...he may have been injured, like WW's Patterson. Only caught 3 for 24. WW kept him in check.

We were speculating, IF he was injured since he had only 3 carries and we believed they all came in the first quarter.  We don't really know he was injured, nothing confirming that.

I watched the first two UW drives of the game again.  Patterson carried the ball the first three plays of the first drive, and then left the game.  He went to the sideline and immediately sat down on bench and someone came to look at him.  I wouldn't be surprised if he has a leg type issue as he had a tackler land on him from behind on his first carry from scrimmage.  I think I noticed a difference right away.  I sure hope he's ok- the kid has worked his tail off to play.

Brian R. Carroll

02Warhawk: The La Crosse QB knelt rather than spiking the ball, costing the team it's last TO. I couldn't tell from my vantage point whether Tony Bilderback was or was not in-bounds on the would-TD on the last drive, but I did see him spike the ball and draw a penalty that pushed us out of FG range. BTW: Hats off to Oshkosh Frosh QB Brett Kasper. After a slow start, he led the Titans to consecutive TD drives in crunch time, displaying cool leadership which would be admirable in an upperclassmen.

Well we got the answer about Patterson...doubtful for Saturday

Bummer, he's worked really hard to be ready to play this year.  I hate to see him miss part of it.  We're fortunate as a team to be deep in talent at the running back position.  The rotation just shrunk by one but we'll still be ok.

For the most part the "blips" were a minor inconvenience and I thought the overall production was ok.  Considering we're getting these broadcasts for free I'm not going to complain.

Any complaints about seeing that Blue Devils logo before every replay?  I know the UST logo bothered you a bit during that St. Thomas game.  ;D

My complaint was that they only seemed to show replays of positive Stout plays.  Were any touchdowns replayed?  Didn't seem like it.

Grayvold selected to this week's D3football.com team of the week.

CB Brady Grayvold, Sr., UW-Whitewater
Grayvold opened UW-Whitewater's scoring with a 45-yard interception return for a touchdown and added a second pick later in the first half to help the team defeat UW-Stout 37-0 on the road Saturday. Grayvold also tied for the team lead with six tackles for the Warhawks, who held the Blue Devils to 242 total yards and forced four turnovers in their second shutout of the year.

Just to clarify my comment it wasn't the fact that they showed the St Thomas logo.  It was the frequency with which they showed it.  It was on the screen between virtually every offensive play the Tommies ran.  I don't have any problem with them advertising their brand.  I just thought doing it 100 times during the broadcast was annoyingly frequent.  Stout only showed their logo before replays which wasn't even close to the same number.

"Not to Be Negative, But..."

An experimental feature being tried out this week. An aspect of the UW-W/Stout game that did not go so well.  This week, UW-W was a combined 3-13 on third down and fourth down plays. A breakdown of all 13 plays and what happened. Including one of the most bizarre plays of the game no one noticed...
