I turned off the audio, too.  The KOOL guys were much more palatable.  And the sync was close enough to get by.

KOOL guys are not only palatable - they are good!  Gary Douglas is one of the top five "play-by-play" announcers in the state!!

Just curious, who are the other four on your mini list?

Mine would include Wayne Larrivee and Matt LePay at the top.  Bob Uecker next.

Brewers TV is OK, Steve the Homer pretty good.  Never listen to Bucks games, so no basis there - likewise any other state schools!

In reading your line at the bottom about drop kicks, I recently read former ESPN's sportscaster Dave Revsine's book "The Opening Kickoff" a history of the early years of college football, up to roughly 1915. The story is woven around the figure of Wisconsin's (indeed, the Big Ten's) first major hero, Pat O'Dea. O'Dea was an Australian who wound up in Madison because his brother happened to be there. Almost by accident, O'Dea, who had played Australian football professionally, was recruited to play on UW's football team. In his two seasons, 1898-99, he emerged as the greatest drop kicker in the sport, certainly during his own time, perhaps ever. This was at a time when the kicker had a leadership role similar to today's QB, and was responsible for most of the scoring, since FGs were worth more than TDs.

O'Day is credited with having drop-kicked a 62-yard FG as well as five others of 55-60 yards, and a 110-yard punt (at a time when the field actually was 110 yards, goal line to goal line, as is still the case in Canada). His feats and unorthodox (to us) style earned him the nickname of the "Kangaroo Kicker". He was one of the first two "western" players ever selected as an All-American, and was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1962 at age 90; ironically, he died the next day.

After leaving Wisconsin and coaching at Notre Dame and Missouri, O'Dea dropped out of sight in 1917, living inconspicuously on the West Coast under an assumed name. After an erroneous report of his death, he re-surfaced, and was invited to come back to Madison for Homecoming in 1934. His return was a huge celebration, with parades, dinners, and other events before, during, and after the game. Thereafter, he became a tireless fund-raiser for Wisconsin.

Revsine's book has reminded us of one of the earliest football hero's, who happened to play here in Wisconsin.  I would recommend it to any fan of the game, especially someone like yourself so fond of drop kicks.

And while I'm in the history mode, just remember with the win on Saturday, Coach Leipold will set the record I told you clowns about a couple weeks ago - fastest to 100 career wins. Major accomplishment in the history of college football coaching; hope he gets some accolades from the national media for this feat. You might have guess it, but Bobo is a history buff.

OK, now back to your normal chit-chat.

I read an article once which mentioned ex-Chicago Bears QB, Jim McMahon was also a drop kicker.  During his time with the PACKERS he would practice drop kicking during pregame warmups and then tell the coaching staff what his range was for the day in case they wanted to try it.  Of course they never did but given the shape of today's NFL football the mere fact is he could do it was interesting.

...not exactly national media, unless you count that it was posted on twitter.

Hard to believe that UWSP is the winningest team against Lance (RAL*: 2-6), considering all the great D3 programs he's gone up against (mutliple times): Mount Union (1-5), Linfield (0-2), MHB (0-4), NCC (0-2). There's also been some good Oshkosh (1-6) and Franklin (0-3) teams during that stretch as well.

An experimental feature being tried out this week. An aspect of the UW-W/Stout game that did not go so well.  This week, UW-W was a combined 3-13 on third down and fourth down plays. A breakdown of all 13 plays and what happened. Including one of the most bizarre plays of the game no one noticed...

Nice job....from a coaches standpoint it is nice to have something that you can walk into practice and say, "Gentlemen, congratulations on a nice win, but ........ we have to improve on third downs."

Right on. And it's nice the coaches didn't and don't resort to a third down philosophy of "throw it to Kumerow".
Bleed's article was excellent. It also gives some credence to the theory that UWW is choosing to work on improving all areas of the offense, rather than going the route of Kumerow.
Joe Worth will hopefully bounce back this week and play more consistently.

Been completely MIA on the boards since Spring and busy with a huge downsizing move among other things.  Life spun out of control.  I am now in a better position and finding my way back to the boards.  I see someone else has reappeared, BoBo.  I was so thrilled to see you back here.  Do you know how worried we all were when you disappeared for so long?   You were missed!    :-*

Bill King is a nationally syndicated football talk show host. He has a show on the Sirrus college football channel and has a pretty large D1 following nationally. The 7 is my fault fat fingers hit a 7 on the phone and I didn't read before I hit send. He retweeted. I believe he did an on air interview of Coach Liepold last year the Monday following the Stagg Bowl
