"How Did You Know? WIAC predictions" posted. 15-1 so far.

bleed, any word on the health/availability of Nick Patterson? Would like to see a healthy Patterson, Jordan Ratliffe, and Dennis Moore available in the running game this week (as well as a healthy Kummerow, of course). Any other known injuries to speak of?

UWL QB Trent Cummings will miss today's game at UWRF due to concussion symptoms, and the Eagles will rely on 2 true Freshman QB's to beat the Falcons. John Tackett played very well against UMHB, and I see a 16-13 win for La Crosse at a chilly Ramer Field.

Congratulations, Hawks, on a hard fought win! The performance of the UW-W defense this year is downright stunning! They have given up 24 points in 6 WIAC games! That's crazy good! Last year's team (from what I remember a pretty good defense  ;D), gave up 46 WIAC points at this point in the season. This season half that (plus one). WOW!

In future years, no matter how good the UW-W offense and special teams might be, please please please remind me not to think anything other that the DEFENSE is the strength of this team! 413 would be so proud and so am I!!

GO HAWKS!

Some joker on the OAC board was just saying that UWW's DB's are not as good as last year...I told him to please believe that!! Platteville has the leading rusher in the WIAC and the Warhawk d completely took away their running game in the second half.

It was a great day to watch UWW play.
UWP put up a heck of a fight.  They are a much more hard nosed team than previous years, and they have some real beef at some of the O Line positions.  Their quick slant game is excellent as the QB is very accurate and receivers run sharp routes.  As the game progressed, the UWW LB's started taking away some of those routes.
I enjoyed watching UWW's #52 Threloft as he has a big motor.

The UWW DB's did a great job stepping up as the game went on.  Yes, UWP drove, but each time they tried to finish off the drive UWW players stepped up.  McClin was in a great goal line battle and his tight coverage forced Corrigan to look the other way, with his last pass getting picked by Grayvold.
Hats off to the toughness shown by the whole UWW team.  I saw Howard, Grayvold and Nellis play through pain and perform like champions.

UWW's O Line dominated the last few minutes, opening great holes and getting multiple first downs to run out the clock.

UWW played through some adversity today and they handled it like champs.

Did anyone happen to catch who the Pioneers' players of the game were?  I missed the announcement.
That Andrew Robinson (#95) dude was really quick and gave us all kinds of problems up front.  Plus they kept moving him from side to side so you were never sure which side he'd line up on making it difficult to know where to put the tight end for help.  He's a really nice defensive end.

The poor punt near the end of the first half giving the WARHAWKS field position and setting up our first score was a big play in the scheme of things.  Probably not as big as the two turnovers in the fourth quarter but it definitely had a significant impact on the outcome.

Really nice to have Patterson back.  He didn't get many touches but they were very productive.  Hopefully Jake is back for the Point game.  Also I wanted to comment on how well Dylan Morang played.  Sub'ing for Grayvold earlier in the game and then playing extensively in the second half when we went nickle Morang finished with 4 tackles and 2 pass breakups.

I was fairly close to a heart attack by. The end of the game. I will echo the sentiment on UWP's 95. During the first half it looked like we weren't even trying to block him. He was really fast off the edge. The defense held it together and did what they always do. They held up well especially considering how long they were on the field during the first half. The offense struggled at times but once Kumerow is back it will change how defenses can run their coverages and I think that will open the offense back up.  I only wish UWP had upgraded their bathrooms and concessions after the tornado, huge lines for both.  Parking was not easy either. Guess we will get up earlier next time.

The lack of production without Kumerow has me thinking about the wide receiver corp for next year.  When the #1 guy goes down it would be nice to see underclassman stepping up and making plays.  I don't know if it's a matter of too much inexperience or inability by the younger guys a lack of comfort between Behrendt and the younger guys.  I know Marcus Hudson is getting quite a few snaps, but he's not been targeted much at all.

As I'm assuming another week off would be beneficial for Kumerow, I'd sure like to see the passing game take a step forward with a second week of practice and game planning without him.

I assume you expect him back for the playoffs.  Good thing - with their current offense there's no way they'd get to the Stagg Bowl.

Same thing was said last year too, that turned out pretty well. Also, what 02 said, way to early for that talk yet.

This will be an important part of the next week or two if Jake isn't back until the playoffs.  Both Point and RF has played pretty good defense lately.  Along with the possibilities you mention is the possibility that MB isn't always finding the receivers when they are open. He has certainly been under far more pressure the last two weeks than he had been the earlier this season.  Losing your top receiver for most of Oshkosh and all of Platteville is not exactly ideal.  If Jake misses this week, It will be very interesting to see what kind of plan the coaches come up with.  I'm sure they are learning more about each of the young receivers each week as well.

^^ Behrendt did find, I think, Howard for potentially 2, long TD passes - the first one flat out dropped (looked like he took off running before securing the ball) and the second, his body language looked like he lost it in the low, late afternoon sun he was looking back into.  Howard had the DB beaten badly in both situations, however.

Furthermore, Andrew Robinson (#95) also benefitted from Platteville bringing the outside backer on a blitz to his outside while he took the inside gap, left two guys for only Wiederholt to block. More times than not, Robinson got through for pressure on Behrendt. He is a good player. And Zilbar (#5) is really good. I'm so glad this is the last time we have to face him. That guy is always around the ball - if he wasn't 5'11" but 6'2" he would be playing in the SEC. His HS, Tampa Armwood, lands a lot of players in SEC schools.

The biggest cause for concern on offense is the frustrating to watch, non-stop holding penalties being called against this o-line. Seems to happen every year about this time in conference games, but by the first/second round of the playoffs, they tend to drop off significantly for some reason. And on defense, stupid, completely obvious personal fouls penalties (like horse collars, face masks etc) that usually occur on third down and long that only prolong drives and keep the D on the field longer. I think Platteville got 3 of them on Saturday that should have resulted in punting situations had they not occured.
