Trying to plow ahead in spite of website posting content that was long removed. I've sought out help for the technical difficulties.  But in the meantime:

"Thank you seniors"

Just scroll to the middle of the first page. The letter is right beneath the "Nostalgic" (right Bobo?  ;)) helmet.

Just how good is the 2014 UW-W defense? Here is season by season Stagg Bowl Era list of the number of times each UW-W team gave up double digit points in a WIAC game;

2005: 5
2006: 4
2007: 5
2008: 5
2009: 4
2010: 4
2011: 6
2012: 4
2013: 4
2014: ZERO

Even going into the less offensively prolific past I couldn't find such a thing in all the WIAC results.  Going back to 1966 a couple of La Crosse and a couple of UW-W teams each gave up double digits twice.
Impressive and while I do not want to sound like 02, I wonder whether the defense success is so much the caliber of the defense versus the caliber of the offenses played.    I really believe our defensive line is significantly superior to last year and that our secondary is at least as good as last year.    The line backing play has been an eye opener and they have done very well.
WHD

If that's true, then that's all I need to know.  ;)

I agree that it is too early to proclaim this defense better than last year.  But unless this is the worst offensive WIAC year in 48 years (which even goes back to a different era of offensive football) it is still pretty formidable. As I've mentioned to some of you, it seems like every year, the UW-W defense steps up big time in the playoffs. With a win Saturday, this team will have the chance to write their own story.

Being that it's Friday...I'll drink to that.

Hold on- were we supposed to wait until today to drink to that?

I'll drink to it today and tomorrow.   8-)

And yesterday and the day after tomorrow.

Brian R. Carroll

Trent Cummings is still injured, and UWL expects to play two Freshman QB's again today. It looks to me like a 30-7 win for UWP.

I thought this just may come up.  :D Thankfully, the dam leaked a bit on a day the offense put a bunch of points on the board!

Nice to see fredfalcon at the Stout/River Falls game today. Always good to visit with the legend and catch up a bit.

Fred I'll bring Stoutguy to buy the beers for the basketball games. ;)

Congratulations to the 2014 Warhawks for winning the WIAC Championship!  Much deserved!

Also, UW-W now has the longest winning streak in college football at any level at 26 games!

GO HAWKS!

I'll second that- Congratulations UWW!!
I thoroughly enjoyed the game today.  UWSP did a nice job to put up some points, but UWW played extremely well.

Point's QB was really good I thought.....especially for a backup. As well as their WR, #2. Together they torched Gravyold on a few times. The game was a good test for the defense, they were really pushed today.

Great game for Moore today....over 100 yards on just 10 carries.  :o I wouldn't mind seeing him on the field more often. It was great to see the offense clicking again, as the WRs took a step forward today with Kumerow again.

Dennis Moore has really looked good the last two games.  He shows power and burst.

The offense finally got out of it's "we don't have Kumerow" funk, and I'm very glad to see it.  Behrendt did a great job trusting the receivers and getting them involved.  Howard proved you don't need to be 6 ft 5 to catch TD's in the end zone.  When Kumerow returns the passing game should be even more effective than it was before he went out.

1. As I said on the up-date board, I've never seen a QB able to throw the ball with as much success (luck?) (if you consider 27-47 successful) consistently off his back foot and falling backward as he throws, constantly having to pick the ball up off the turf because of low snaps and running for his life trying to avoid pressure. It helps having receivers (mostly #2) running good routes and able to catch the ball in traffic. He played well, but I don't think we took him to seriously - he's a back-up.

2.  I wouldn't consider them torching Grayvold as much as I think Grayvold took too many chances he shouldn't have taken, especially reacting to the many pump fakes #15 was doing. Plus a couple of times deep down the middle I think the safety was no where to be seen.  Point must have seen something in the tape because they were making a concerted effort to go deep early and often, more than I can remember anyone doing against us this year. It wasn't a total lost cause since Brady did have another INT to kill a scoring opportunity for the Pointers.

3.  Nice to see Howard actually catching the ball this week. Amazing how open he and the others were on those medium to long out patterns, the ones Jake is always open on when he's in there. Behrendt has been throwing into coverage more and more in the last couple games, including this one. The INT looked like it slipped from his hand and just fluttered over the head on the intended receiver who was pretty much uncovered on the play. Good thing for Point that the DB was playing 5 yards deeper or he never would have reached the pass. Finco showed a nice burst of speed after he caught the ball in the flat and took it to the house; he's developing nicely and should be another weapon heading into the playoffs. I'm sure Jake will be back for the playoffs, we need to let him sit out again next week since he won't be needed, maybe just put him in for a couple plays to get the rust off. Speaking of Finco - the true definition of a freshman - catch the TD pass then knocking the kick returner out of bounds on the ensuing kick off. Gotta love it!!  Junakin showed nice change of direction for a big man on his TD catch. Impressed with the rotation of him and Solano. Solano has come out of nowhere to be an effective option for Matt.

4.  Dennis Moore has been good all year, and getting better all the time. We are blessed with some really nice runners. Good problem to have - who would you take carries away from to give Moore more carries? Ratliffe is a punishing beast and Patterson is damn good too. though I sense he's not running as well as he was before his injury, plus I think he's wearing a brace on his left knee limiting some of this movement. But, they all need their carries and I think the current rotation is working well. No one else can do what we do in the running game. Givens seems to be the odd man out, though I like the change of pace he offers.
