I too, some time and reviewed yesterday's game... And I have to tell you I am still amazed. To come back down 17 against a really good Wartburg team was unbelievable. I am looking forward to Saturday and another really tough opponent. For those not from IL here is a story on John Flood and Tim Regan that appeared in the local paper for the Northwest Chicago burbs

Well thanks for that--I have to give Whitewater the "favored" status given they are #1, defending National Champs, at home and have never lost (thought certainly could have any of the 3 previous matchups) to the CATS.

We do not have a dome. :D  Prepare for the elements.

Though the last extended forecast I've heard called for warmer than normal temperatures which may reach the mid 40s.  If true you can't ask for any better December weather in Wisconsin.

In past years, at this point of the playoffs (semi finals), we've always assumed UWW and Mount Union will be destined to face each other in the Stagg Bowl....again. However, this season, I think the chances of a Linfield/Wesley final are just as likely as a UWW/Wesley matchup. To me, it's a coin flip on which teams will advance on.

In few games this year UWW has shown they are very vulnerable in a few areas. At the same time, JCU has shown the d3 powers that UMU isn't invincible. I keep hearing how this is Wesley's best team ever. If that's the case, this should be a really good one in alliance on Saturday. Linfield has aleady proven they can beat one purple power on the road. So I have no reason to think why they can't do it again on Saturday.

Bottom line, I can't say with any certainty who the favorites truly are on Saturday.

It's hard to hold a lead against an excellent team like Whitewater (that has so many weapons). When Wartburg lost their QB (and brought in a wide receiver to play qb) along with a couple veteran O-lineman they were unable to maintain any drives or score in any fashion....so it all added up. Should be a great game this Saturday!

I think you hit on a big point here Blue.  The matchup of starters was somewhere near even, however, the difference is probably the depth.  UWW has a lot of injuries right now (understanding most/all teams are banged up this time of year), yet there is enough depth on the squad to overcome.  Perhaps Wartburg isn't at that point yet.

Actually, I think Wartburg was clearly superior until the qb and O-line guys went down.  So depth is the key.  Week 14 to week 14, Wartburg starters were better.  If the qb did not go down, I think Wartburg wins 33-30 or even 40-30.  He came back in, but his mobility did not.

Maybe, we'll never know for sure. Their defense couldn't get off the field in the 4th quarter and gave up 21 points in a span of 8 minutes.

Wartburg offense did seem superior to the UWW defense.  While the UWW offense was clearly superior to the Wartburg defense.
As long as we're talking if's and buts, if Kumerow doesn't fumble on the long pass reception, it's likely a UWW touchdown.  If Junakin doesn't drop the pass in the end zone, well, it is a touchdown.  I reckon we'll have to add those points into the what if scenario.

Not a good day for either defense.

Mr. Ypsi

Agreed.  We can never know.

IMO Wartburg was actually the better team until the injuries.  Which surprised me, since I had UWW #1 and Wartburg #5 on my fan ballot.  Clearly a clash of Titans! ;D
