Great point about Kumerow fumbling and Junakin dropping that TD. One could make the argument that UWW wins by double digits if those plays would have resulted in 14 points, instead of just 3. On the other hand, if Wartburg would have stayed heathly and converted some of their FGs into TDs, then they could have won by double digits. This "what if" game is kind of senseless and doesn't really prove anything, since it applies to both sides.

Giving credit where credit is due, a big +K to emma and his support at the game Saturday. While most of us were ready to hit the road and call it a season, emma's convidence in Whitewater was never shaken. He talked us down from the ledge numerous times in stands, while keeping his spirits high. The tide seemed to turn in UWW's favor after his dance routine to the "Warhawk Strout". Props to emma. :)

In past years, at this point of the playoffs (semi finals), we've always assumed UWW and Mount Union will be destined to face each other in the Stagg Bowl....again. However, this season, I think the chances of a Linfield/Wesley final are just as likely as a UWW/Wesley matchup. To me, it's a coin flip on which teams will advance on.

In few games this year UWW has shown they are very vulnerable in a few areas. At the same time, JCU has shown the d3 powers that UMU isn't invincible. I keep hearing how this is Wesley's best team ever. If that's the case, this should be a really good one in alliance on Saturday. Linfield has aleady proven they can beat one purple power on the road. So I have no reason to think why they can't do it again on Saturday.

Bottom line, I can't say with any certainty who the favorites truly are on Saturday.

I'm trying to determine how many points to ask for from the Wesley faithful.  From your post above you seem to favor either a Linfield/Wesley or a UWW/Wesley Stag Bowl.  How points should I ask for?

KitchenSink

Mount Union's website talks about their semifinal (obviously) - But I saw they have tickets for $8 for the game.

Whitewater charges $11.   I though the NCAA set the prices for postseason (just like they set the times).  Not correct?
What the hell was that?  That was a Drop-kick.  Drop-kick? How much is that worth?  Three points.  THREE POINTS?!

Like I said in my post I don't see a clear favorite on Saturday. I think all four teams have an equal shot at advancing to the Stagg. I would be ok with both games being an even pick-em.

Apparently not. In the three rounds of playoffs so far I've paid $15 at Linfield, $10 at UMHB (both for a reserved seat) and $4 (senior ticket) at Widener...there were no reserved seats on the visitor side at Widener.

Well....if you are going to be the best....

Looking forward to another trip to the Perk. The outcomes haven't been in my 'Cats favor but the experience has always been a great one in terms of people and how hard the games have been played. See you next Saturday and congrats on the comeback.
Will be so happy to see you at my tailgate again, 11,  The beer will be cold and the food hot!   :-*

413,

Let me know if you have any IPA drinkers and I'll bring along a six pack of my favorite Oregon brew to donate to the cause. Hope all is well and looking forward to seeing the UWW crew.

Where were all the whitewater fans Saturday? I was looking at your attendance figures before the game and was ready to get blown out by the sound and was very surprised to see less than 1800 people there.
A few years back I was at a playoff game at SP and I'm pretty sure Wartburg fans outnumbered pointers that day. Granted that was the opener for shotgun season and as a country boy I understand how that works.
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

Did any other Whitewater fan start thinking of that game on Sept. 29, 2007 (The Comeback) during the 4th quarter on Sat? Especially when the Warty QB went down? For those of you who don't know, on 9.29.07 #3 UWW was playing @ #6 UW-La Crosse. UWL was leading 28-10 starting the 4th quarter. Whitewater got a 41 yard FG to complete a 14 play drive that had started at the end of the 3rd quarter and carried over to the 4th. Two UWL fumbles and one INT, were converted into 3 UWW TD's, the final one, a Jake Anderson 1 yard plunge into the endzone with 61 seconds left in the game the game winner. At 28-10, UWL was just as dominating as Warty was on Saturday. But what the game will always be remembered for was the fact that within a couple minutes, La Crosse lost their starting QB Griffin Moe, who had thrown for over 300 yards, on a crunching hit by #33 and three plays later, the backup QB forced a throw that was intercepted. Both were converted into TD's by Danny Jones.  A third turnover, another fumble forced by Jace Rindahl resulted in the Anderson TD run to win it. This game can be remembered for two important reasons - #1, Danny Jones cemented himself as a leader of the offensive with his 4th quarter performance and the team bonding with the high valued transfer QB. And #2, the fact that UWL has yet to recover to their dynasty-like status as a program since that 4th quarter meltdown. Just a remarkable turn of events.

Yes, in fact footballfan413 was the one who made the comparison after the game on Saturday.

This question comes up at least once each week, year in year out. Playoff games have never drawn anything like the regular season. 1800 is actually a large crowd for a playoff game. A couple leading reasons are:

1. students have to pay for admission. For some reason $11 is too much for them when they can sit at home and watch on TV instead.  No blackout rule for D3football.

2. Winning so much has taken the thrill out of attending - everyone assumes the Warhawks will roll because they usually do, so why go to the game and freeze your butt off. Conference games are usually more competitive. Playoffs are for parents, family and diehards only.

3. The NCAA prohibits the cannonguy from doing his job, people stay away in protest. (Thank you to the Wesley coach for complaining to the NCAA KABOOM!!)

4. The culture surrounding gun deer season occurs the first two rounds and is a deeply rooted family activity in Wisconsin - impossible to compete with - some schools in prime deer country even shut down because of it because so many students are absent from school.

I didn't read that...time to go back and review, thanks 02.

UWW students are offered FREE tickets courtesy of UWW Res Life and Kachel Ent. each home playoff game at the Perk.  A substantial number of those freebies go unclaimed.

BoBo is right. Having all home games on live TV probably has an impact, but then again regular season games at the Perk are telecast live and Whitewater averaged nearly 9,500 fans per game.

Maybe it is a "seen that/done that" mentality.

The first two years of UWW's playoff run Whitewater averaged 3810 ('05) and 2576 (06) per game.  The attendance has generally dropped each year to a low of 1130 last year.

NewHawk

I thought Saturday that we should all shift to the middle so at least a one frame camera shot would make it look full.  I was to busy yelling at the officials to actually move. I like to blame them when things go wrong on the field. I am hoping some students show up Saturday. I know they give away 500 tickets for each playoff game to students, and when you subtract the 42 players that are not dressed out, it looks like there may be another 100 students in attendance. Saturday will be another game that the fans could help make a difference.
