Wisconsin for Oregon State? I gotta be missing something here....

That is a serious head scratcher...Good get for Oregon State.

How long until Bielema has his people leak to the press that he's in 'serious conversations' with Wisconsin/Alvarez, only to announce he's 'all hog' and present a selfie with a recruit 1 hour later  ::) :P

Not a chance, you can only cry wolf so many times and he's reached his limit. But Bert's wife, Jen, might tweet out Karma again.

I was kind of wondering about this...that's two consecutive coaches that have left Wisconsin (voluntarily) for jobs that aren't stone-cold locks to be better.  Arkansas for Bielema, I mean, I get the SEC thing (and the $$$)...but Andersen leaving for Oregon State?  I think Mike Riley did a great job to turn the Beavers from "laughingstock" to "spunky Pac-12 midpacker" but isn't that kind of the program ceiling?  And if so, why are coaches leaving what (at least on the surface) looks like a pretty decent Wisconsin job for anything other than "programs that can win national championships" or "programs that offered a ****load of money"?

hazzben, are you a Badgers fan?  What's the deal there?

Word on the street is that he's a west coast guy at heart, but more importantly, he was increasingly frustrated with Wisconsin's admission requirements.  He hasn't been able to get a number of highly rated, committed prospects through the admission office. There are many on the WI message boards who have never really warmed-up to him, from the way he handled Melvin Gordon in the LSU game, to the QB situation all this season and think the job is over his head - coming from Utah State. Oregon State is a convienient opening to make his get-away.

Could it be the pressure of recruiting against UWW is just too great?

Nice story by D3 on the homepage highlighting the D-Line at Whitewater...linemen need love too.

From what I've read and heard, it was mainly a location thing with Anderson. He's a Utah guy, and Oregon is much closer.

Also in the discussion, somebody called in and lamented that it didn't happen a week or so earlier, because "the coach from Whitewater was available."

Barry Alvarez talked about constantly maintaining "a short list" in case of ... yesterday.  Is it possible that LL may have ever been on that list?  Probably a long shot.
What the hell was that?  That was a Drop-kick.  Drop-kick? How much is that worth?  Three points.  THREE POINTS?!

No doubt a long shot but IMO about as safe a long shot as an AD can take.
Even if it failed, the home town guy w all the success was given a chance. It's easy to rally around that story.

I think a recent interview with Nebraska AD also alluded to this as well, that (in his opinion) every Division I athletic director should always have a short list of candidates for key positions like FB and MBB coaches, even when their coach isn't on the hot seat, because they have to be ready on a day's notice if their coach suddenly flies the coop.
