BoBo

Finally, before I sign off for the night, my heart-felt condolences to bleedpurple and the entire Perkins family for their loss today. May the comfort of God help you during this difficult time. Joy and grief all on the same day. What a difficult day it must be.

bp, thanks for carrying on the tradition.  I love that line, "Are the boys ready for kickoff?"

On the UW - Whitewater Mount Rushmore, Coach Perkins is our George Washington - he is in front of them all.

Was saddened to hear of the passing of Mr Perkins. Not having the historical background of many of you, I can only sense what the loss means to the Warhawk Nation. My condolences.

As far as the other thing, BoBo, I'm not touching it except to say that I believe you used the phrase correctly. ;). And I agree with what has been said.

wesleydad

As far as whether Mount was showing no class and running up the score, I have no idea.  If you don't want to get beat that bad stop them.  As to whether or not Burke should have still been throwing the ball at that time of the game, I guess Mount wanted to try some things, but it could have been a disaster had he gotten hurt.  If I recall I think they threw 6 passes at the start of the second half, 3 and out on the first drive and 3 more to start the next one.

As far as Wesley being over seeded, I guess everyone else is also over seeded too.  They have lost to Mount, UWW, and UMHB in the playoffs.  I agree they have not shown well in the semis and that makes them look really bad as a result.

Re Mount Union not letting up:  This happened for one reason and one reason only - the 2013 game started out 31-0 and ended up 62-59.

Anybody with the slightest bit of historical knowledge and the slightest bit of intellectual integrity would confirm this.

Say the what?

Leipold's been kicking the arses of Kehres pere and Kehres fils all over Salem the last few years.  (Unfortunately.)  There's no score that Mount Union could have won by today that would have "sent Whitewater a message."

31-0, then 62-59 is the reason for today's continued scoring by Mount.  Well, that, and a second-half pick six, which can hardly be blamed on Mount's offense.

???

I'm not sure what drug you're under the influence of or if that drug is just wearing off, but :

1.  the pick 6 wasn't in the second half, but the second quarter -
2.  nobody was blaming Mount's offense for a pick 6 - but it was partially responsible for Mounts continued scoring - you lost me there, Edward. Care to explain?

Those two items make me question if you have the slightest bit of intellectual integrity (I use that phrase loosely, because like you, I have no idea what it means; I hope retagent can tell us!)

Frankly, I don't really care what Mount decides to do with their personnel. Just thought it was odd that VK felt the Raiders couldn't hold a 56 point halftime lead against a team that was more than capable of tripping over their own two feet, all by themselves. It screams of inferiority complex.
Personally I think you are off base here.  So being at the game we were all speculating when Kehres would pull the starters.  Wesley started the second half with a 3 and out, then Mount followed with their own 3 and out.  Wesley then I think got a first down and then punted and if my memory serves me there were still over 12:00 to go in the 3rd quarter.  Mount had a 6 or 7 (estimate) play drive that was about 3-4 or so passes and about 3-4 runs.  Most if not all of the passes were short slants etc so not much danger for the QB.  Nobody was questioning that they should have pulled the starters before that drive that made it 63-0.  The only question is the next drive that started with somewhere near 7:00 minutes to go and ended with about 4:20 or so left in the third.  It also was about 3 passes and 3 or 4 running plays.  He wasn't slinging the ball down the field.  They were short passes meant to move the chains.  They scored and pulled the starters for the rest of the game.  Wesley was able to put up a lot of points in a very short time last year.  In a regular season game maybe you call off the dogs a series quicker but in the playoffs you cannot afford to make a mistake.  So can you question the last drive?  Sure, but one drive in question does not entail running up the score.  I agree with Wesleydad.  Mount could have scored 100 yesterday if that was necessary.  Maybe 120.  Does that have anything to do with UWW?  Not in the least.  I think everyone knows there is no connection.

Wesley since 2005 consistently the most overrated high seed in the playoffs(worried too much about the canon)....Missed being at the Perk but coverage of the game was fine.....Good luck in Salem and POUND the ROCK....

Previous two Wesley games in Alliance were a 3-point loss and a 7-point loss.

Thank you Bobo and Retagent, too, for your kind words. I got the call exactly one hour before the game.  It was a day that was incredibly sad (it is impossible to prepare the loss of your father, especially when you were close, regardless of age),  sweet, and fairly surreal all at once. I got the call at 1:30, exactly one hour before the game. Thank you so much for the love and support of so many. The Warhawk family is beyond special.  I know it was a hard day for us all.  And thank you UW-W and NCAA for the moment of silence. That was very gracious.

And what a game! Congratulations to both teams. And way to go Warhawks! You are Salem bound again and the Warhawk family couldn't be more proud of you!!

Wesleydad,

No, yesterday was just an aberration.   We all know Wesley is better than that.    I remember our Wildcats leading you at your field 3 years ago 28-7 at half and getting badly beat in the 2nd half.

Wesley had one bad game yesterday.    That does not negate all of the good you have done!   You are still one of the Elite D-3 teams.

All my thoughts and prayers go out to you, Bleedpurple and the entire Perkins family on the loss of Coach Perkins. I am so sorry for your loss.  May you be comforted by knowing his was, truly, a life well lived and the contributions and the legacy he leaves behind.  Passing on the day the Hawks take the field for, yet another, semifinal game,  something very poetic about that.   :)

Wonderful day at the Perk yesterday with some very special Linfield fans, family and many ex-Warhawks we love so much.  So blessed to be apart of such an incredible program for the last 11 years.   And thank you to this years version of, "never say die, Warhawks!"   Some very big changes are happening for the Warhawk Nation but for this week, at least, the ride continues............    8-)

I think you were up too long.  You said earlier you went back to bed and missed the second half of the Mount Union Wesley game so I'll help you out a little.  Burke completed 7 passes in the second half before VK pulled him with over 4 minutes to go in 3rd quarter.  Give Wesley some respect here.  The Wolverenes have a reputation of a high scoring team that when they get hot they can put up a lot of points in bunches.  The Wolverines put up 59 on Mount Union last year when Mount failed to deliver the knockout punch.  Multiple Wolverenes offense players have been racking up various D3 honors.  So it was good coaching to try to run time off of the clock and passing is a big part of their offensive package.

After the last Bruke pass Mount Union pulled their starters and didn't pass another time in the game.  Not one attempt.  Wesley's offense was frustrated and almost score twice in the 3rd quarter, but Mount held them out of the end zone.  In the 4th quarter Wesley kept their starters in an got some satisfaction against Mount's backups by scoring 3 touchdowns.

I did go back to bed at half, but I did record the video during the second half and watched it later. Burke threw a TD pass with 4:10 to go in the third, so I guess threw his last pass with over 4 min left in 3rd is technically correct. But, it doesn't change the matter that the game was over at 56-0 at the half...any reasonable person could have seen that. There was no purpose to keep Burke in the game exposing your franchise player to possible injury. But, if Mount coaches and their fans can't see that and feel their defense can't hold that kind of lead against a beaten opponent, so be it. Congrats for the win, see you Friday.

Congratulations on another trip to Salem for Lance and co.  It has truly been an honor to watch your dominance and become a friend.  Please accept my deepest sympathies Bleedpurple....a true legend!

Few have talked here about the coaching replacement coming after the week.....whatever the Warhawks do, they should not take pointers from the University of Montana.  Had four coaches to pick from; former HC Bobby Hauck who was 80-17 with 3 National Title game appearances (04,08 and 09), current DC Ty Gregorak (defense has been tops in Big Sky last two years and player's choice), Brent Pease current QB coach at Washington (played for the Griz in early 90s, former OC at Florida and Boise State) and Bob Stitt current HC at D2 Colorado School of Mines (career record of 108-62 which is 62%, one conference title in 15 years and playoff record of 1-3) known as an offensive genius......looks like Montana will go with the choice no WW fan would recommend---Stitt.

I have never seen a team hire a coach and project more success at a higher level than his past performance would support.

Good luck to the Warhawks!

OK, 4 overlooked factors in the "Mount running up the score" discussion

1) It was the last game at Mount Union stadium for Mount's seniors including Burke - I guarantee it'd be pretty hard to tell those guys they're done at half.
2) you never know what can happen at half time, Yes they should have been comfortable with a 56-0 lead, but at the same time, If I'm Wesley's coach I'm telling my guys, they put up 56 in a half, so can we.
3) Teams like Mount don't get the opportunity to play their full speed offense against a great defense, It was probably their best chance to prepare for the next game.
4) If UWW could have run up the score on Linfield or Wartburg they would have.
