Hope he does well and makes a Kelley type progression all the way to a  top Power 5 program.

As for the VK non-handshake and Burke not at the press conference.

None of us have any idea what was going through VK's head. When LL ran over to him, he didn't seem at all hesitant in shaking his hand and offering congrats. I'm gonna give him the benefit of a doubt and assume he was just giving LL and the Warhawks room to celebrate together.

As for Kevin Burke, I don't hold it against him one bit that he wasn't at the presser. Watching him on the bench at the end of the game, you could see he was just crushed. He threw 4 picks and had what he'd probably consider the worst game of his career. And it was the last game of his career. He's never going to put on a uniform again. Any former D3 player can relate to that. It's especially hard when it happens in the playoffs. It hurts so much. So the guy doesn't go to the press conference. Big deal, he's not a pro player getting millions, with a requirement to do his media time.

I get that the journalists want to get comments and accentuate their coverage, but in the grand scheme of things, I don't take anything away from Burke's no-show. To be honest, anyone seriously peeved at him has probably never competed at a high level or experienced heartbreak after pouring your soul into the pursuit of something, only to fall short.

One of my all time favorite quotes by Teddy Roosevelt seems apropos here:

Excellent post and quote Hazzben. +K.    As a WIAC and Warhawks fan, I am going to take the high road and encourage other UWW posters to do the same.   None of us know what was in VK's mind.  And Kevin Burke was obviously distraught at the end.  In the heat of battle we all get the impulse to pile on. 

This season with the number of close games, injuries and challenges (LL going to Buffalo) heightened the anxiety for every player, coach and fan of UWW.   I am extremely proud of what was accomplished and encourage all UWW fans to reflect and relish the achievement.

Congratulations Warhawks!  Certainly a disappointing evening as a Mount fan, but a good game nonetheless.  I'm proud of the heart shown in that 2nd half, but UWW always answered when needed.

Good luck to LL and his assistants at UB and, most of all, best wishes to the seniors.  Especially Behrendt.  After the last 2 Stagg Bowls no one short of his parents is happier to see him graduate!  ;D

Safe travels to all heading back from Salem today and have an enjoyable holiday.

Congratulations 2014 Warhawks! You overcame every obstacle in your way and you are National Champions! Thank you seniors for the work, dedication, and leadership. What a special group of guys. Don't forget that starting next season you are still Warhawks and have to join us in "Parking Lot/Tailgate duties" starting at 10 AM on game days.  ;D. What a great opportunity for the rest of you as we carry the torch forward! ;)

Missed that comment but Drass said whoever played Mount would get their asses kicked. If Wesley wants to get to the next level they need to get rid of him, team panicked and imploded after getting behind.

Don't want to dump on Wesley on a celebration day, but it's easy dumping on them because they are such a dumpster fire. The most over-hyped team in the D3 landscape. I hope the D3football.com staff begin to realize this and stop their man crush on them.

Hey there -- I know you only pay attention when Wesley plays UWW but I think you still need to look at the last two Wesley trips to Alliance before this year and understand where the rest of Division III's recent respect for Wesley comes from. Wesley plays other games, too.

Congrats on a great season for Whitewater.  Its great, to me, to see D3's best duke it out on National TV.  Whoever takes over the HC Position is taking over a monster program.

In looking around the 'net the best comment I have read online regarding UW-Whitewater's gridiron success is that they would add instant credibility to the Big Ten should they decide to join the conference.   8-)

This is an outstanding post, hazzben!   As for VK, I see this, somewhat as a pattern, having seen, in person, his storming the field at the end of the 07 game.  Seems to lose a little composure, upon the realization that the Raiders have lost the championship.  Something a head coach needs to have, cooler heads and all.  But as for Kevin's no show I, totally agree!   He, clearly was devastated and, probably, incorrectly believing that HE let his team down!  I had the pleasure of watching Justin Jacobs as our starting QB for the 05 and 06 season.  A highly talented QB who broke several of his HC's passing records from the 60's play the worst two games of his career in both Stagg Bowls.  I understood 05 with the overwhelming pressure and importance of one's first Stagg Bowl/ESPN appearance and was sure that would not play out in 06 but, unfortunately, it did.  I, to this day, regret that he didn't have a better experience on the field in Salem.  You hope, for each player to leave the game feeling like they played their best, no matter the final score.  But we all know I am all about the DEFENSE, and more times than not, an offense and QB are forced into making mistakes, high passes, fumbles, turnovers because of defensive pressure and the lack of timing, hurried execution, etc., that results.  Great DEFENSES make great offenses struggle, at times.  Nothing on the football field happens in a vacuum.  I hope for Kevin, a fantastic, successful life and with future perspective, understands that the game was never his to win or lose alone, a team wins or loses together!  Every player on Mount's offense had an opportunity to affect/change that outcome with their play.  Congrats to Kevin on being a two-time Gagliardi award winner!  An incredible impressive accomplishment that speaks volumes regarding what is most important in life!
