Just to clarify my position as a WARHAWKS fan.

1.  While I think he should have I don't really care one way or the other whether Kevin Burke attended the post game press conference.

2.  If I had gotten my ass kicked like Wesley got their ass kicked I would think the next team in line was in for an ass kicking too.

My position is similar:

1.  I have no problem with Burke not attending.  He was obviously extremely upset and I do not think at that point he would have done a great job of representing himself or Mount Union in the presser.

2.  I want to thank Coach Drass for the wonderful billboard material.  I hope Lance posted it all over the UWW locker room and used it for motivation.   I watched the entire Mount Union v. Wesley game and it was one of the worst coached games I have ever watched.   Wesley abandoned their run game way too soon and kept putting Mount Union's offense back on the field.   Lets be honest, keeping the Mount offense off the field was one of the major reasons for UWW's success in the Stagg.

I agree 100%, I felt as though one team thought they were still playing last year's game and didn't make any adjustments and the other team did.

Maybe back before the mid 90's. But lately teams that provide a balanced offensive attack have been the teams making it to Salem (UWW/UMU). Triple options, read options, spread offenses, etc only seem to succeed until a certain point in the playoffs.

If UWW can keep recruiting the type of players they have, there's no reason to change their scheme. But yes, it all depends on the coach they bring in.

I wouldn't call Mount, '03 SJU, '99 PLU or '04 Linfield pro-style offenses. I get your point about balance though. All the Stagg champs have had that. Maybe the exception being '04 Linfield and Elliot's other-worldly arm making them understandably pass heavy.

Can I just throw in there, as a guy who had to sit through one of those crappy playoff press conferences after being on the losing side as a Sr., I doubt Burke "regrets" not being at this event later in life. We can debate whether it's a big deal he wasn't there, but that seems a lot like projecting one's own disappointment for the no show, onto Burke. Aka, I'm mad he didn't go to that...he's gonna regret that later!

Maybe he feels regret. By I'd wager it's not very likely. Something tells me, when he thinks back on that night, the things he regrets won't be so much that he didn't talk to the media, but rather a few throws he'd want back.

And I'm just gonna clarify and say (without making accusations) that I think we need to be careful not to read too much into a kids character based on one emotional decision after the toughest loss of his career. It's not like he got busted for a DUI/drugs or assaulted a girl on campus, which seems to happen far too frequently with celebrated football players today. I'll take the worst thing we can say about one of D3's stars is that he didn't talk to the press after a crushing defeat. It could be a lot worse.

As for Drass...I love the little shot LL took. That was hilarious. I get Drass being a bit peeved about the blowout, but Emma is right, he's making the connection that Mount will put a whoopin' on the next opponent just because Wesley got dominated. Coaching for Bethel in 07, after our semi blowout loss, I felt the same way about Mount (didn't say it to a reporter, mind you!), but UWW had something to say about the outcome of the Stagg then too!

That said, I like that Drass was frank with the media. It's way more fun and interesting to have players and coaches who don't stick to the 'vanilla script' all the time.

Hazz, I appreciate your post.  I'll offer the following.
IMO there is a big difference between suggesting Kevin might regret a decision and calling Kevin's character into question.  I may not have looked hard enough, but I cannot find on this board where Kevin's character was called into question.
I believe Bobo posted a comment from a sportswriter that said Kevin didn't appear at the post game "as promised" and he should have.  I don't know if there was a promise or who made it or if Kevin knew about it.
As I've stated more than once, I don't question Kevin's character in the least bit, but I absolutely believe at some point in his life he will regret not attending the post game press conference if in fact he was aware of the promise.
And it is possible to have more than one regret.  Of course Kevin will regret not performing better, but that doesn't prohibit him from ultimately regretting not attending the press conference.
Not that anyone cares, but I'll give an example, realizing it's not nearly the same stage.
My senior year of high school we were the #1 ranked team in the state and lost in the playoffs.  I fumbled and it was costly.  I regret that performance mightily.  Making matters worse, I was so distraught after the game that I walked off the field without shaking hands.  To this day I imagine myself looking up the names of every player on the other team and sending a personal apology.  I regret that action- 30 years later.
I know it's not exactly the same.  But at the end of the day, if (and these are big ifs) Kevin knew about the promise and if he chose to not attend, I believe he will regret that decision if he is the man I believe him to be.

I, too, loved LL'S comment at the press conference and thought it was hilarious.     So unlike him, however.   I'm  betting we would not have heard it had he not been on his way to another level.     ;D.  I think Drass's comment was more of an excuse, that his team wasn't terrible,  Mount is just that good !!!  That,  and a wish and a prayer.    8-)

Balance is defined differently.

I don't consider Mt balanced in the terms I think of with UWW.  i.e., I don't think balance is necessarily being 50/50 run- pass.

2014 Stagg:
Mt:  75 plays, 47 passes and 28 runs.
UWW: 83 plays, 38 passes and 45 runs.

The opposite of what he would have said when attending the presser had Mt won.

What the hell was that?  That was a Drop-kick.  Drop-kick? How much is that worth?  Three points.  THREE POINTS?!

The Walmart in Whitewater has championship shirts and hoodies in three colors. Went up there yesterday. The bookstore still didn't have any as of today at 11.

And an other-worldly arm it was!!   But the pass heavy offense didn't carry them through to the Stagg in 05.  I remember, after we beat them with a really good mix of run/pass, their posters lamenting about how desperately they needed to get a running game, as well, to keep their opponents off the field more.   UWW had, for many years,  been a, "run first, run often," offense until 05 when, with some great talent like Jacobs and Derek Stanley, we began to air it out in more equal measure.  It is what allowed us to break through to the highest level.  In 05, after being with the program for 2 seasons, I remember, about 5 games in saying, "holy sh$&, these boys are REALLY good!"  I don't mean, literally, 50-50 or even close to it, just that you need to do both well to go all the way, IMHO,  Boland always says, his #1 goal is to make an opponent one dimensional.
Really helps when they start out that way!   ;D

Merry Christmas, happy holidays and a happy, healthy new year!!!  Love being a part of post patterns and the wonderful world of D-3 football!  I wish for you all love, time with the ones you love and many moments that take your breath away this holiday season.  :-*

PC knows I'm a lamenter.  I confess it was me more than others. The 2004 Stagg MVP running back Riley Jenkins chose not to come back in 2005 for his final year of eligibility; left a big gap. Master B put Derek Stanley on defense to cover Casey Allen at the end of the game.
