UWW had, for many years,  been a, "run first, run often," offense until 05 when, with some great talent like Jacobs and Derek Stanley, we began to air it out in more equal measure.  It is what allowed us to break through to the highest level.  In 05, after being with the program for 2 seasons, I remember, about 5 games in saying, "holy sh$&, these boys are REALLY good!"  I don't mean, literally, 50-50 or even close to it, just that you need to do both well to go all the way, IMHO,  Boland always says, his #1 goal is to make an opponent one dimensional.
Really helps when they start out that way!   ;D

Merry Christmas, happy holidays and a happy, healthy new year!!!  Love being a part of post patterns and the wonderful world of D-3 football!  I wish for you all love, time with the ones you love and many moments that take your breath away this holiday season.  :-*

I seem to remember a player named Justin Beaver helping open things up a bit for the pass.  Not taking anything away from Jacobs and Stanley, they were both exceptionally talented.  I think Beaver was the last offensive ingredient that lifted WW to Stagg Bowl material.

In a humorous note, Justin Beaver's Wikipedia entry states:  "Not to be confused with Justin Bieber."

Excellent point, ROR!   But, UWW had a terrific RB named Chad Wurth who played in the early 2000's until 2003.  Broke all kinds of records before Beaver took over in 2005 after injury kept him out of most of the season in 2004.  Colin Burns had a great season that year, breaking a record for, "most carries in a game," but was forced out of the sport due to too many concussions, unfortunately.  But Chad was an extremely, talented RB in a, predominantly, run heavy offense.   UWW has had several great running backs before Beaver, they just didn't get to play on ESPN so no one outside of our opponents ever heard of them.    That and they didn't get multiple years of 5 extra games a season to help with the record breaking.  My son benefited from those 15 extra games as well with the two records he broke.

No question, Justin was every bit a part of the rise to the top and one of the best running backs in UWW history!   My point was just about the change in offensive scheme to becoming more balanced in 05.  We, suddenly, had a hell of a passing game to accompany our great running game.

A nice sendoff for Coach Leipold and the four departing assistants last night in Whitewater.  Athletic Director Amy Edmonds did a great job of putting it together and there was an excellent turnout. Along with the departing coaches, I think all of the current staff was there as well as coaches from other sports, players, and fans.  While the good byes were emotional, it was really a positive and upbeat night.  IMO, it was a classy gesture by UW-W and an equally classy response by the coaches in showing up and truly engaging with everyone who approached them.  It struck me on the drive home that while change can be hard, UW-W will be moving forward with the "Powered by Tradition" value firmly intact and unshaken by the suddenness or timing of the Buffalo opportunity.

Happy New Year to all DIII fans and posters on D3boards.   Truly enjoyable experience being part of this large family!

Since UWW won national titles in football, men's bball, AND baseball, make that three things missing (even from the 'honorable mention' list).  Has this clown EVER mentioned d3 anything?

Like most of mainstream sports media....No.

The thing is, it's not just D3 news. This is unprecedented college sporting news.

OnMilwaukee.com is notoriously lightweight in their articles.  No real surprise they are clueless.
