Not too much happening to talk about these days, so ...

I was wondering what you guys thought of Bama's two minute drill?  Nick Saban gets credit for being such a great college coach, but Bama's two minute drill reminded me of that movie, Miracle in which Kurt Russell played Herb Brooks of the 1980 U.S. Olympic Hockey squad that beat the Russians and won the gold medal in the Olympics. In the movie, when the Russians were scrambling to try to tie the score late in the game and did not pull their goalie, Kurt Russell's character (Coach Herb Brooks) uttered the words, "Look, they don't know what to do!" since the Russians seemed to be completely unprepared for such a situation - a situation they probably never imagined possible - the same type of situation Alabama appeared to be in against the Bucknuts.

Wow, if I was a Bama fan I would be PO'd because their team seemed so poorly coached/prepared for that situation in the game. Totally inexcusable really, IMO.

I agree, BoBo.  That was really a surprise. I know that stylistically, they are not going to be as adept at scoring quickly as, say, and Oregon.  But they ought to still be able to be able to perform with the necessary pace and play design to look COMPETENT at least.

Probably being too critical here, but as great as the Badgers' win turned out to be, I thought they could have had a better pace on their last drive of regulation.  A faster pace could have afforded a couple of more running plays.  For the final three plays before the FG, I was almost hoping for incomplete passes because I was concerned the next most likely result was an interception or a sack. We are probably just spoiled.  ;)

When LL took the field on 9/13/14 to coach in front of 3,250 fans in Franklin, I don't think he envisioned he'll be coaching in front of 100,000+ fans less than a year later.  :o

If he starts to get nervous about it, he can always remind himself that 99,500 of them will probably not even notice him.

Good point. Rex Ryan and LL. now THERE is a study of contrasts!

Does anyone else notice a bit of a parallel in Ohio State putting the wood to Oregon?

The more physical, strong running and defense oriented team beat a favored, high-flying, spread them out, throw it all over the place offensive team (with a QB that has a trophy in his locker).

Saw the possible connection a while back, was kind of entertaining to see it play out.  Again.
What the hell was that?  That was a Drop-kick.  Drop-kick? How much is that worth?  Three points.  THREE POINTS?!

Agree, just wrote that over on the OAC page.

My take away from the NC game: Oregon might be on the decline now since their system, despite all the Nike money and entertaining to their fans, doesn't win championships, and Urban just created a Frankenstein monster for himself (as if it wasn't the case already, nothing but championships will suffice the masses in Ohio now.)  But, add a Harbaugh and Urban will probably bale in a year or two.

Plus, I just heard Urban say that nobody is leaving early for the NFL, guess they don't care for the pay cuts.

In addition, my sources on the tOSU sidelines heard this from Urban Meyer: "Yes Cardale, you still have to go to class next week."

In addition to that, I heard someone make a great point on the radio today about Oregon's offense. It was stated that they are a system offense, and everything is ran through their QB. So if their QB has a bad game, their offense can't function properly. Whereas Ohio State just has a bunch of great athletes that can make plays independently, and aren't reliant on just one central player.

Just another parallel between the D1 and DIII championship game.

Great observation  +1

BoBo

In all seriousness, my biggest takeaway from the CF champions this year FBS (OSU), FCS (NDSU), D2 (didn't see game) to D3 (UWW) is that having talent at the skill positions is obviously important.  But if I saw anything it's that he who controls the line of scrimmage will win the game.  In many ways that's good news for us. That's one thing we are normally better at than anyone in DIII. It's another reason I believe UWW has a very, very bright future and will continue to be a great program going forward, even with the coaching changes that are soon to be determined. The fundamentals of the program are sound.  I can't envision Whitewater hiring a new HC & staff dumb enough to alter that proven, championship winning formula. That would be an invitation for a stroll down Mediocrity Boulevard, i.e. a step in the wrong direction. I sure hope to God the powers that be are smart enough to realize that and not even consider hiring some spread offense nut. I view UMU and Oregon in a similar fashion in that they want to be a no huddle, high flying, gimmicky BS offense (Mount actually ran that 3rd read-option, pass to the WR that Oregon uses). But, the reality is, owning the LOS and being tough is still what wins.

Amen Bobo.

The OSU/Oregon game is a good parallel to UWW vs many teams.  Another good parallel is The Tortoise and the Hare.
Although the fast paced, read option offenses can be very exciting to watch, one of the downfalls is that there are too many moving parts.
