Badgers up against  The Dukies & the stripes tonight

It stinks that part of the discussion today involves the refs.
I certainly believe Duke played better down the stretch so I'm not one to say UW would have won if not for the refs.
Yet, I sure wish there was a better way. The world saw Winslow's finger tip bend as he touched the ball heading out of bounds, but for some reason the technology the refs used didn't show the same?

I don't know what the answer is but I'm confident there will be improvements.

I couldn't believe they didn't reverse that call. But then I thought, I'm sitting here watching it on my 55" HDTV, the refs are probably watching the same angles on what, 24-32" mini-monitor they can set on the scorers table when they need it. If I'd been trying to distinguish the very tip of his finger tip brushing that ball (which it clearly did), it would have been much harder on that small monitor. But it's something they have to rectify. Because most of America was watching that game on large monitors.

Aside from Bo's protests after the fact though, Wisconsin had their chances to win and couldn't close down the stretch. I was bummed, I wanted them to cut down the nets. But I don't think this is on the refs. Shoot, Duke was in foul trouble the entire game and only 2 fouls were called on the entire Wisconsin team in the first half. As much as I think Duke gets favorable officiating in the ACC, I didn't see it last night. There were questionable calls, but they seemed to go both ways. And in the end, each team had full control of their destiny.

1) There's certainly a reasonable school of thought that says if we're going to stop the game for replays in key situations, we really ought to make sure that we get it right, and it always rings a little silly to me to read in the aftermath that the refs don't have access to the same camera angles/quality that we have at home.  (This happens all the time with NFL replay controversies; we hear after the game that the official didn't see the same view we did that showed it was clearly a catch/non-catch/fumble/etc).  I mean, shouldn't the guy making the call have access to the absolute-best-of-the-best view?

2) On the other hand, I've always kind of thought replay should be meant to fix obvious errors, not to fuss over minutiae and inches.  I didn't really see replay as a way to overturn close calls on bang-bang plays, but more to fix really obvious "the ball hit the ground and the guy didn't see it" or "his toe was obviously over the 3-point line but the ref gave him a three" calls.  So I also can make an internal argument justifying a "the ref watches the play three times at roughly half-speed, and if he's not sure that he should overturn the call, then it stands as originally called."
I was small but made up for it by being slow...

Morningside appears to be in Sioux City - which is all the way on the far side of Iowa.  That's a long road trip.

I know I was seriously considering going but then I looked at a map.
That's an hour drive for me, I just might have to take a trip south to check out the 2015 hawks

Now the NCAA is saying that the officials did in fact have access to all of the video that the public did and that they never took the time to review the magnified video which did appear to show a Duke player was the last one to touch the ball because they had already decided to uphold the original call.

Nuts and bolts, nuts and bolts....so it goes.

For the sake of the integrity of the game (real and perceived), there should be something in place that ensures the refs see whatever the public sees.
When the two don't mesh there's going to be doubt.

There already is something in place that ensures the officials see whatever the public sees.  The problem in this case is that they didn't take the time to view all of the video they had available to them.  They failed to view the magnified video which was available to them because they had already decided to uphold the call made on the floor.

The real problem here is that they didn't take the time to utilize all of the resources available to them.  That's on them.

It's a digital world, baby.  Crowd source refereeing. Better yet, machine learning. Let the T-800 model 101 decide the games for us.

UW-Whitewater announced this week a renovation project that will improve its current locker room facility that hasn't been significantly modified since the stadium was constructed over 40 years ago.

This project is a comprehensive renovation of the Perkins Stadium service building that will fulfill the needs of today's student-athlete and help carry Warhawk Football into it's next era.

A brand new, larger, and more functional locker room will give our current team a suitable meeting space and serve as a valuable recruiting tool. In addition, the sports medicine area will expand and feature a state-of-the-art hydrotherapy that is integral to the recovery and rehabilitation of student-athletes.

This project is proposed to fully realize this vision and keep Warhawk Football as the preeminent program in college football

Thanks goodness UWW football now has a valuable recruiting tool. It's shameful how they've suffered! [insert winky guy]

Oshkosh is cutting entire sports teams while Whitewater is installing jacuzzis. Interesting.

I'm willing to bet UWW football team has one of the least accommodating locker rooms in the conference. Seems like everything else in the football program was upgraded over the years, except for the locker rooms. This is long over due.

Ha-ha.  But have some perspective here.  How is UWW going to deal with their portion of these massive budget cuts?  What cutbacks are going to happen to student services?  Surely there will be early retirements taken by the faculty.  Certainly there will be administrative staff that lose jobs.  There are going to be some really unfortunate things happening to working people there soon.  In that climate, doesn't this announcement seem a tad...indulgent?

Perspective is the key.  Voice may have announced it on these boards recently.  However, the plan has been in place for a while.  I've had my donation letter on my desk at work for months.  I've talked with former HC Brez multiple times about providing financial support.
I see nothing indulgent about the process that began at least a year ago if it is all or mostly funded by private donations.  In fact, I could make a case that it would be in the financial best interest of UWW to allocate funds toward the project.  There is no doubt, zero, that the success of the football program has generated significant benefit to the UWW, financial and otherwise.  The more kids UWW brings from out of state (i.e., mine), the better their financial situation will be.  Let's face it, a good part of any financial shortfall will likely fall upon us out of staters.

Thanks, Emma. You answered Wally's question the same way I would have, except your answer was better and more thorough than mine would have been. This was announced far before the budget cuts were proposed. In fact, the fundraising drive made some decent progress early on. The momentum slowed a bit with some staff personnel changes.  However, the project was committed to during the 2013 season I believe. I remember Coach Brez talking about it back then at least.  Yes, it will be privately funded. There are some very significant commitments already made, but we need Warhawk Nation step up to put it over the top. I have no doubt it will get done, but sooner is better than later.

Emma, who is that blonde you are walking with in the first rendering? Hmmmm? I'm telling Dawn!  ;D

They already do. At least those that are Wisconsin residents.
