Regarding Tolzien/Blanchard -  At this point Tolzien is the clear favorite to be the #2 quarterback based on his tenure with the team and level of experience.  Don't forget how much time and energy McCarthy spends on developing backup QB's - it took quite some time for Tolzien to get to the level that he's at now and will probably take Matt some time as well to adjust to the system and get to where he needs to be.  However, the Packers wouldn't have signed Blanchard and brought him in if they didn't think he had the ability to challenge Tolzien for the #2 role.  Matt will get an opportunity to show what he's worth, but all NFL teams bring at least 3 qb's to camp to save reps for the #1 guy.  It is possible that Matt is being brought in to be a camp arm with the caveat that if he impresses he will be kept on as the #2/#3 QB or signed to the practice squad. Either way Congratulations to him.

This seems to be the most logical one. It's exactly why the Bears brought him to camp right after he graduated. They needed an extra arm in camp, but he impressed the staff so much they ended up signing him. The only different here is, the Packers are signing him before camp starts.

It's awesome he's getting another chance though...even though it's with Packers  :P

Green Bay could be the perfect spot for Matt.  Matt has all of the intangibles.  He's got the size, mobility, smarts and arm strength a quarterback needs to play in the NFL.  Now he's in an organization with a excellent quarterbacks coach in Mike McCarthy.  This could be exactly what he needs.

The amazing thing to me is that he's getting essentially a third opportunity.  Despite injuries that, in part, caused two organizations to give up on him the Packers see enough potential that they are willing to give him another shot.  Not a lot of DIII athletes would get an opportunity like that imo.  If you're a DIII athlete and you're lucky enough to get into an NFL camp and then you're injured generally speaking you're history.  Matt's beaten the odds in that regard.

Matt is a competitor and he's got a very good work ethic.  I wouldn't be surprised if the Packers didn't either draft another quarterback in the late rounds or bring in another free agent quarterback essentially having four in camp initially.  I'm excited to see how he does.

2007 UWL graduate - congrats to Mike!  Team captain in 2007, as well as part of the 2005 Eagles team that beat South Dakota State.

Still remember the game at Wrigley against the Phils that the Cubs scored 16 and LOST. Schmidt hit 4 HR's.

I remember the 23-22 Phillies win at Wrigley.  Schmidt only had 2 measly home runs in that game - though it did include the game winner in the 10th.
What the hell was that?  That was a Drop-kick.  Drop-kick? How much is that worth?  Three points.  THREE POINTS?!

UW-La Crosse Releases 2015 Football Schedule

http://www.uwlathletics.com/news/2015/4/16/FB_0416151651.aspx?path=football

9/4/15 - vs. Luther College (Iowa)
9/12/15 - at University of St. Thomas (Minn.)
9/19/15 - at University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (Texas)
10/3/15 - at University of Wisconsin-River Falls
10/10/15 - vs. University of Wisconsin-Stout
10/16/15 - at University of Wisconsin-Whitewater
10/24/15 - vs. University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire
10/31/15 - at University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point
11/7/15 - vs. University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh
11/14/15 at University of Wisconsin-Platteville

Only four home games this year.  Three of first four games on the road.  Two of those against tough non-conference competition.  Defending national champs on a Friday night and short week.  Won't be easy for the Eagles this year but there are definitely some winnable games on the schedule.  Need to do better than 3-7 in 2015.

Wow that's brutal. You have to give UWL a lot of credit for seeking out some really tough programs over the years to fill its non-conf schedule.

Past 10 seasons:
MHB - 4 times
Asuza Pacific (DII) - 4x
Missouri S&T (DII) - 3x
NCC - 2x
UST - 2x
Hardon Simmons (when they were an ASC power) - 2x
Bethel - 1x
North Dakota (DI) - 1x
South Dakota State (DI) - 1x
Northern Michigan (DII) - 1x

I'm not an Eagle basher and I do wish them well- however it's hard for me to see how they do better than 3-7, unless they really improve from last year.
Do you have an idea as to the games you'd expect the Eagles to win?

There is no reason they can't beat Luther, River Falls, Stout, and Eau Claire.  The Stevens Point game is definitely winnable but we probably aren't a favorite for that one.  I'm not all that in tune with what other teams have coming back, but I don't expect them to beat UMHB, St. Thomas, Whitewater, Oshkosh, or Platteville.  If we can take care of business with the first four teams and snag an upset in there at some point a 5-5 record wouldn't be a stretch.  Dettwiler just needs to get over the 3-7 hump and it will be a successful year.

^^
I'm probably overly biased toward River Falls based on the way they played UWW last year- but I think they will be tough in 2015.
It seems UWL picked it up a bit after the UWW game- playing all teams closely.
I hope they progress.
