I think the fact that the Patriots have been caught in the past added to the severity of the hammer dropped by the NFL.  Big time.
What the hell was that?  That was a Drop-kick.  Drop-kick? How much is that worth?  Three points.  THREE POINTS?!

There is certainly an escalator in there for prior rule-bending (and the video thing was a million times worse than this thing with the footballs).  I still can't find the logical steps on how you get from a $25,000 starting point to 4 games/$1 million/draft picks.  Not for this.

Probably by lying and covering it up for 5 month.

They were made an example of.

Oh.  Does that justify an unreasonable and inappropriate punishment?

Probably not, but it wasn't up to me.

I find the vitriol over the fact that Brady lied about it a bit...intriguing.
Two thoughts come to mind.
First- Given the uncertainty of what the punishment might be, I can at least understand why Brady may have felt that lying is his only option. After all, there is no way he could have been certain that being truthful wouldn't get him suspended for the Super Bowl- over something he probably doesn't think rises to the level of a suspendable offense.
Second- Lying about what you did is all within the same wrongdoing.  As an example.  A man cheats on his wife- he's already living a lie-denying he's doing so isn't really a new lie to him- it's just part and parcel. I think the action and the lie are one.
I'm not sure about this last point but I think there is something to it.

I reckon the NFL is toast.

You realize this was written by the Patriots' lawyer right? Putting this out is his job, and cherry picking paragraphs from a several hundred page report to dispute is a common legal tactic, especially in a p.r. war. I'm not saying the NFL or the Wells report is any better than the NCAA job done on Penn St., I'm just saying that this summary is exactly what a paid lawyer should produce for his client.

And that, everyone, is a suburb example of a non sequitur. Additionally, if it were true that every case was flawed because a lawyer was paid to argue it then every case would be unresolved.

The burden of proof lies with the NFL. Key NFL arguments are either demonstrably wrong, over weighted or mis-interpreted. Pointing this out is the responsibility of the defendant, whether paid or not.

Amazingly, I was able to read this documentation, weigh its persuasiveness and come to my own unpaid conclusion: the NFL is toast.

MEMO TO: Roger Goodell, NFL Commissioner

SUBJECT: Wells Report on deflated footballs

I have spoken...you're toast!! And I'm not talking the delicious, French kind. So...get a life and a real job. Any questions?  Good, end of discussion. Cheers mate!!

You're funny, Bobo. For a mean idiot that thinks quite a bit of himself you come off almost not stupid at times. This isn't one of those times. Keep the chin up, though; even a stopped clock is right twice a day.

...and the beat goes on...

Seriously, not sure why you are starting another feud with me on this board. Seems like benign things inspire the most negative and attitude filled responses from you. But, is that the best you can come up with?  Seems like you've recycled those lines dozens of times!!  So because of that, you're prompt reply was about as predictable as a fat man in the all-you-can-eat buffet line. Your incessant insults and name calling has all the imagination of a USPS mail sorting machine and has no place on here. If you were my kid, I'd wash your mouth out with Irish Spring...repeatedly!!!

You have got to be kidding. You go after nearly everyone not UWW with uncalled for personal attacks, almost every time. You get a little in return and you complain.  Weak.

Bobo and Oz, as a guy that's been in more than my fair share of back n forths on these boards, I want you to know that I don't mind when you have disagreements with each other. I think you both are valuable contributors and oftentimes very funny. In fact I'd bet you'd get along well if we were tipping brews at a local pub.
