Eagles buckle down, get ready for St. Thomas

http://lacrossetribune.com/sports/eagles-buckle-down-get-ready-for-st-thomas/article_5945dabe-96aa-5e99-b9ec-d960fcddbf88.html

I found the comments from coach D and one of the players on last year's game plan to be interesting.

Yeah, they almost seemed contradictory. The coach saying they had too much in the game plan last year (a common mistake, leading to guys thinking too much and playing slow), and so they've tried to simplify things.

But then the player says they were 'unprepared' last year and that this weeks game plan is much more complex than the one they had for week 1.

I'll be interested to see how that plays out...

I think what the article was trying to say is a simplified offensive gameplan and a more prepared and detailed defensive one.  The difference wasn't very well defined in the story, I agree.

WIAC announces Athletes of the week:

What?? No Warhawks? That cannot be. I know they didn't play, but still, just the fact that they are the Warhawks certainly entitles them to at least one selection. C'MON!!!

I hope I am wrong, but I don't see the Eagles taking down St. Thomas. I'll be delighted to be proven otherwise, and will be the first to admit it. Safe travel to all teams and fans.

If an award isn't made of walnut and bronze or fit on your finger, we lose interest. Congratulations to the players honored.

I don't remember if it's been known before but Belhaven's pregame article mentions they'll be making the trip to UWW next fall. So I believe we may know the whole schedule already. Belhaven and TCNJ at home and Finlandia away.

Boy, it's been a long time since UWW had a nonconf schedule in place early.  Refreshing!!
What the hell was that?  That was a Drop-kick.  Drop-kick? How much is that worth?  Three points.  THREE POINTS?!

I suspect you're probably just being stupid otherwise one would have to conclude that you were trying to stir the pot.  ;)
FWIW having the player of the week is just about the last thing concerning our players and/or staff.
Congrats to those who have been named.   They earned it and it's nice to see them recognized.

OK, so you said it nicer than me. I'll bet Retagent enjoyed my answer better, though.   ;)

I honestly don't think Ret or some of the others think UW-W posters are as arrogant as they say. I think they just believe we are unbelievably easy to bait.  No idea what gives them that idea.  ;)  (Although I have to say, Bobo has been unbelievably diligent in staying away from Bulk19's hook).

What is Coach Bullis the most concerned about in taking UW-W on his first road trip as a head coach?

Welcome back Ret, I'm looking forward to a season of good natured ribbing with you.

Bleed, I love your "As Camp Breaks" articles on www.warhawkfootball.com.
I think my favorite line of all (and there are many great quotes from the staff) is from OC Coach Smith when asked about his concerns heading into the trip to MS:

QuoteNone. We are ready to go. We all just want to play a game! I've never looked so forward to a 14 hour trip in my life!
So much is said in that simple quote.

Coach Bullis's closing line was great too- his big concern is making sure everybody gets on the bus.  Ahh, the glorious responsibilities as Head Coach.

Thanks for the articles, it's been a real pleasure to read them.

Great read but  the weather last week was not even close to what they are going to get in MS. it isn't going to affect the outcome of the game but they are going to experience heat and humidity like they never have.  Hopefully the trainer is ready for a few cramping players. This is when our two deep and ability to rotate guys in and out will really pay off.

Umm... before making these drastic pronouncements you might want to look at a weather website. It's not hard to do and you'll see that this weekend the South is going to experience a moderate cold snap for this time of year. Low humidity around 56%, low 80s temperature for the highs, sunny with a mild breeze in Jackson MS. While typically you would be correct that the weather would be an irritation, it won't even be that with the glorious weekend we have ahead.
