Saturday was a great day for UW-W's freshman class. In Saturday's game, freshmen led the Hawks' individual statistics in the following categories:

Rushing Yardage
Passing Yardage
Receiving Yardage
Punt Return Yardage
Assisted Tackles
Solo Tackles
Total Tackles
Tackles For Loss
Sacks
Extra Points Made
Field Goals Made

In addition, the longest run (53 yards) was by a freshman , the longest pass play (57 yards) was from a freshman QB to a freshman WR, and four of the top five tacklers were freshmen.
BP,
So you are saying that WW reloads instead of rebuilding. WW has 3 nasty weeks in front of them Morningside, P-ville which will have a bye this week then  Oshkosh. If they come out of that unscathed the talk around campus will be Lance who? (Before anyone takes that the wrong way to quote Sargent Hulka in the movie Stripes "lighten up Francis").

Your welcome! Feel free. Obviously, with relatively few passes thrown and UW-W playing 5 different QB's, the numbers weren't big.  But I thought it was still an oddity when I saw the categories of rushing, passing, and receiving led by freshmen. Then I just kept looking.

No, mostly I was just thinking how great of a day it was for the young guys.

This is a great stretch of games for sure and I know the guys are really looking forward to it.  As far as the rest of your post, I don't care what anyone on these boards posts, but  "if any of you touch me or any of my stuff, I'll kill ya'!"  ;)

I thought that considering that it was their third game, and disregarding the score, Finlanda did ok.  The seem to be well coached and a couple of years will make a big difference in the players size and strength.  That being said, over the last two games our starters have had very little playing time.  I think some of the defensive starters got about 8 to 10 snaps Saturday and only a few more the week before.  I would have been nice to get a little more playing time in before Thursday's game.  On the bright side, there are very few injuries going into the game this week and everyone should be well rested.  Thursday should be a barn burner.

A throwback article in the Sioux City paper that spends a lot of time talking about the last contest between Morningside and UWW which took place in 1970 in Mexico City.  It does have a couple of lines about the game Thursday.  UWW won the last one

The WARHAWKS played every player who was dressed.  I think it was 104 but once I've used all of my fingers and toes it's gets complicated so I could be off by a couple.  I just know that it was everyone available.

Was Dennis Moore injured or just given Aaron Rodgers-like preseason treatment? He was not in uniform.

I don't believe that link is working...at least for me, I get the dreaded "This page can't be displayed" message.

UWL hung in there for a quarter, posting a 3-3 tie through the 1st, but ultimately lost 43-10 against UMHB.  Looks like UMHB put up 24 unanswered points after that 3-3 tie.  I did not get a chance to see any of this game, but total yardage (586-223) and first downs (35-11) tell the story.  UWL rotated sophomore quarterbacks and neither were particularly successful.  The Eagles have a week off and then play UWRF in the conference opener.

I felt the same way about Finlandia, I was impressed with their fight and overall execution. It made for a great day in the stadium.

Game day is upon us. Time to see how the O has improved from last week. I'm also interested in see our size comparison. Seems the WIAC teams always have good size.

Yep.  Those Wiscy boys are usually big.  I think I read something about their impressive O-line size in the game notes.  It should be fun seeing how they stack up to our D!

I guess the guys memory isn't that good...or the game notes were not from this year.  Didn't you say something recently about the smallish lineman on this years Eagles roster?

Give them credit.  They answered the phone and did something that no other school in the state that isn't in the WIAC is willing to do.

I did not see that, thanks BoBo.  UWL goes 260, 295, 280, 300, 265 across the oline so not so small there (Although 4 of the 5 are 6-1 or shorter).  What I really referred to and was disappointed in was the size of the dline -  we've got a guy that's 5-10/210 as a starting d-end.  It's pretty clear the coaches philosophy is put the biggest guys on the offensive line and use smaller quicker guys on D - which in my opinion leads to us getting steamrolled by good rushing teams, particularly conference foes.

Although I believe the consensus was just that UWL needs better players. ;D
