Did anybody catch any of the UWEC v Wheaton game?
I saw a bit of the 2nd and 3rd quarters via the web. I know Wheaton eventually went on a run, but I have to say I was surprised with how well UWEC played in the time I saw them. They didn't look like a team that had been thrashed in previous games.

USee

I watched it. UWEC got the opening kick, had some success and got a FG..3-0. Wheaton drove to UWEC 28 and turned it over on downs. UWEC 3 and out, Wheaton then scored on next 2 possessions to go up 14-3. UWEC completed a long pass as Wheaton DB's got beat, down to the 8 and punched it in on 4th and goal from the 1 with about a minute left in half. Wheaton scores w 20 seconds left and it's 21-10 at half. Wheaton's Olateju fumbles the kickoff and UWEC recovers at the Wheaton 15. They score and it's 21-17. The rest of the game was Thunder running. UWEC has some nice pieces. They could not stop the run but their skill players are pretty good from what I could see. Wheaton did not play their top WR, Luke Thorson, and their QB sat most of the second half.

I was much more impressed with UWEC than I expected to be. Denhartog  made some nice throws and Knapp is a sneaky fast receiver with great hands.

Saturday was a great day for UW-W's freshman class. In Saturday's game, freshmen led the Hawks' individual statistics in the following categories:

Rushing Yardage
Passing Yardage
Receiving Yardage
Punt Return Yardage
Assisted Tackles
Solo Tackles
Total Tackles
Tackles For Loss
Sacks
Extra Points Made
Field Goals Made

In addition, the longest run (53 yards) was by a freshman , the longest pass play (57 yards) was from a freshman QB to a freshman WR, and four of the top five tacklers were freshmen.

That is impressive and is not something one would expect to see from a top rated football team.  My hats off to UW-W for keeping a good thing rolling year after year.

UWW's game vs Morningside College on Thursday night at Elwood Olsen Stadium in Sioux City, Iowa will likely be the first ever matchup between NAIA and NCAA Division III No. 1-ranked teams with Morningside poised to move up into the top spot in the NAIA poll after top-ranked Marian University lost 30-21 at No. 11 Robert Morris on Saturday and the 'hawks, of course, already #1 in DIII. Morningside, #2 in the NAIA poll heading into the weekend, defeated Dordt 49-0 yesterday at Sioux Center, Iowa.

Thursday game will feature two of the nation's most successful teams in their respective divisions. Morningside (3-0) has made 11 consecutive post-season appearances in the NAIA Football Championship Series for the longest active streak in the NAIA nation. The Mustang's were NAIA runners-up in 2012. They have won four consecutive Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) championships and sport a 112-23 record, a .830 winning percentage, since the start of the 2004 season. The Mustangs have advanced to at least the semifinals of the NAIA Championship Series each of the last three years. Not to be outdone, since 2004, the Warhawks are 146-11 (.929 winning percentage).  The Warhawks (2-0) are flying high with a 34-game winning streak for the nations longest collegiate football winning streak and...you know the rest!

The 9.24.15 6:04 pm CT game will be streamed live on ESPN3.

Morningside is from my state, but in this one I'm going for the best the NCAA D3 has to offer.  Besides, I don't want to listen to the Morningside faithful tell me how great the Mustangs are and how NAIA football put a better product on the field.

The Wartburg victory at Stout should probably my most pleasant memory from our visit to Wisconsin over the weekend, but stopping by River Falls for Bacon Fest on our way home may be a close second.  :D

I reckon that UWW taking on the NAIA champ is a courageous and smart think to do.  It's the type of thing that shows they want to and probably will stay on top.  Unfortunately.

You'll see no further compliments from me.

Hopefully UWW will represent D3 well enough to force at least a small complement out of you after Thursday's game.

This WIAC-NAIA thing is shaping up in pretty interesting fashion.

UWO lost a close game to NAIA highly ranked Robert Morris, the team that just knocked off NAIA #1.
UWW gets a shot at the likely new NAIA #1 on Thursday.

Well, you just went over on the WIAC over/under number on OzJohnnie compliments for 2015, so no reason to stop now!  ;)

I know the game makes UW-W fans nervous because Morningside really is an excellent team and it's easy for fans to develop an "afraid to lose" approach to following their team.

But, I think it's awesome for three reasons. One, it will test us prior to Platteville. As mentioned by Hazzbeen, we will be facing a 6th year senior QB. He is a record breaker. He will show us areas we may need to shore up before the UW-P game. I am guessing the other phases of the game will be a good test, too. Secondly, I feel like our starters are REALLY looking forward to this.  It's a chance for them to actually get to play close to a full game.  Third, it should be a great atmosphere, playing an opponent at night who is ranked #1 in the Nation, on their home turf.  They got the Schollys, we got the Warhawks.  This will be fun!  ;)

Might borrow this for the podcast. Thanks for breaking that down!

Your welcome! Feel free. Obviously, with relatively few passes thrown and UW-W playing 5 different QB's, the numbers weren't big.  But I thought it was still an oddity when I saw the categories of rushing, passing, and receiving led by freshmen. Then I just kept looking.

I thought that considering that it was their third game, and disregarding the score, Finlanda did ok.  The seem to be well coached and a couple of years will make a big difference in the players size and strength.  That being said, over the last two games our starters have had very little playing time.  I think some of the defensive starters got about 8 to 10 snaps Saturday and only a few more the week before.  I would have been nice to get a little more playing time in before Thursday's game.  On the bright side, there are very few injuries going into the game this week and everyone should be well rested.  Thursday should be a barn burner.

I felt the same way about Finlandia, I was impressed with their fight and overall execution. It made for a great day in the stadium.

I got a kick out of the fact their kicker was also their defensive tackle. :)

Morningside is not the NAIA champ, Southern Oregon is. Morningside is now rated #1.

Good point, 22.

I bet your most hated movie is Sleeping With The Enemy because the good guy gets it in the end.

I give Finlanda in all the credit in the world a new team coming in is playing 3 WIAC schools they have the same scheduling problems many WIAC schools have.  But it begs the question how can a private school of  500 students that is north of some Canadian cities can have a Football team but UW-Superior does not?
