Where there the will there is the way.  Where there isn't there isn't.  It's pretty simple when you get right down to it.

Our board has gone from contentious to downright profound.  ;)

Saturday was a great day for UW-W's freshman class. In Saturday's game, freshmen led the Hawks' individual statistics in the following categories:

Rushing Yardage
Passing Yardage
Receiving Yardage
Punt Return Yardage
Assisted Tackles
Solo Tackles
Total Tackles
Tackles For Loss
Sacks
Extra Points Made
Field Goals Made

In addition, the longest run (53 yards) was by a freshman , the longest pass play (57 yards) was from a freshman QB to a freshman WR, and four of the top five tacklers were freshmen.

Might borrow this for the podcast. Thanks for breaking that down!

Your welcome! Feel free. Obviously, with relatively few passes thrown and UW-W playing 5 different QB's, the numbers weren't big.  But I thought it was still an oddity when I saw the categories of rushing, passing, and receiving led by freshmen. Then I just kept looking.

Ithought that considering that it was their third game, and disregarding the score, Finlanda did ok.  The seem to be well coached and a couple of years will make a big difference in the players size and strength. That being said, over the last two games our starters have had very little playing time.  I think some of the defensive starters got about 8 to 10 snaps Saturday and only a few more the week before.  I would have been nice to get a little more playing time in before Thursday's game.  On the bright side, there are very few injuries going into the game this week and everyone should be well rested.  Thursday should be a barn burner.
I give Finlanda in all the credit in the world a new team coming in is playing 3 WIAC schools they have the same scheduling problems many WIAC schools have.  But it begs the question how can a private school of  500 students that is north of some Canadian cities can have a Football team but UW-Superior does not?

Finlandia needs those students badly and is willing to undertake the expense of adding a football team in order to do it.

Now, I suspect Superior could also use 80-100 men. And maybe in the UMAC they will add a football program, but I can see why they wouldn't want to try to field a WIAC team.

Massey Ratings has UWW winning 42-27 on Thursday.

So take that for what it's worth.

I've seen a few people suspect on Morningside's defense against good offenses. If they're defense can be suspect then it's winnable for UWW. If it's a shootout I don't particularly like our chances. Hope the RBs can pound the rock, control clock and keep their offense off the field.

I'm just glad Morningside hasn't been tested this year yet either. Both teams are coming off blowout wins in their first 2-3 weeks of the season.

On the bright side, if UWW were to drop this game, this would be the one game on their schedule to cause the least amount of damage to their playoff hopes.

I felt the same way about Finlandia, I was impressed with their fight and overall execution. It made for a great day in the stadium.

The Lions can always brag that the first points scored in Finlandia football history were against the defending national champions.

Who are these few people you speak of?

Games like this, like the Mount contests, are going to be won by the team who win and control the line of scrimmage. Everything happens because of that. I like our chances against ANYBODY in that regard. I also think we can win with their defense suspect or not. We will control the clock with our pound the rock philosophy and our discipline. I have yet to see an NAIA team with good team discipline. Our guys have been battle tested in close games and nearly always come out on top. I can see Morningside crumbling when the going gets tough since they have really never faced that kind of pressure for a complete game. Just my IMO. Now, go pick it apart.

The game Morningside v Wisconsin Whitewater game  will be on ESPN 3. I personally get that channel.

Has anyone heard or read who the announcers will be? Will Herbie be in Iowa on Thursday?

I have no idea how Morningside will respond to what UW-W will bring on Thursday night.  What I do know is that UW-W will be physical and relentless for 60 minutes.  In my opinion, this is one of the strongest offensive line/defensive front 7 combinations in the history of the school.    If Morningside holds up and comes out with a win, hats off to them.  Our guys came to UW-W for games like this.  They are more than ready for a team to challenge them.

We are fortunate to have such a game to look forward to at this early point in the season. There are many story lines before and after. I have the same excitement as if this was a 3rd round or later playoff game.

I know this is an obvious statement, but I'll say it any way. You have to figure this really comes down to the degree UWW can make them one-dimensional. Morningside has tremendous offensive output running and passing.

ESPN3 typically has a bunch of broadcasters they pay on a game-by-game basis for these sorts of games. I would expect we'll see broadcasters similar to what we might get for a D-III national semifinal game.

In the past some of these guys have been former D3football.com broadcasters, the folks who are pursuing the profession full-time, such as former North Central play-by-play man Wayne Randazzo. But Wayne is working New York Mets games as pregame/postgame host and occasional play-by-play guy.

This is ignorant uninformed.  Morningside has been a national semifinalist for three straight years.  I realize that doesn't mesh with the standards you all keep, but they've played in big games.  I don't know who wins this game Thursday, but I doubt that Morningside is going to wilt under the pressure of playing in a competitive game.
