Phew -- just watching the broadcast of this game a little bit. This was brutal.

One friend text me and said they couldn't believe ESPN put their name on it. With the rain, it was nice there were no TV timeouts, but I wondered how TV was going to handle that. Apparently not very well.  Some said they came back late and missed action quite a few times. It's too bad for those viewing what turned into a very exciting game. Productions like that never help ratings either.

Just thoughts on several topics already brought up:
.
A win like this helps UW-W in numerous ways. First, it is a great experience to play an excellent team right before the conference season.  Second, the way they won will be a great confidence builder.  Of course, UW-W doesn't lack in that area, but IMO wins like that increase the late game "belief", even if it is already a strength.

3.  We made several technique mistakes and this tape will show them and be a very good teaching tape.  In our previous games we could make mistakes and not pay for them because the level of competition wasn't good.  The level of competition in this game was good.  They have some real talent and speed.  The tape of this game is really going to help us get better.

The good thing is that we've got a great teaching tape and we won.  You can't ask for much more.

Not to mention the broadcast ended with 38 seconds left. I looked like they just used the cameras Morningside already had. Both broadcaster were actually from Morningside but I thought they did a,pretty good job of being impartial.  The people in Sioux City were very welcoming,  the bartender at the Hilton Garden Inn was a former Buena Vista player. Morningside worked the town getting the seats filled but unfortunately the weather refused to cooperate. A lot of locals said they were going but the weather kept them away.  We talked to a couple of players from Morningside and while they hated losing, they felt like they played a good game against a good team. The QB mentioned he might not have scrambled towards the end but he forgot about the clock for a few seconds.

Finlandia took the first lead in the history of their school when they scored a TD with about 10 1/2 minutes left in the first quarter. Unfortunately for the Lions, the missed the extra point and the lead lasted only 5 seconds as Point returned the following kickoff for a TD.

Other highlights for Finlandia:

The completed passes of 59 yards and 20 yards.

They intercepted a pass on Point's first possession and returned it 43 yards to set up their TD.

They are getting better. I'm hoping they split their two games with Maranatha Baptist. I hate to see any team go winless.

"Beyond the Highlights: 1st Half"

First half plays that won't make the headlines, but impacted the outcome of UW-W's win at  Morningside.

Replying to pat's comments re/ post game interview with coach bullis. I thought the interview was excellent. Those of us who worked with Kevin during his tenure at River falls know that "complete and thoughtful answers" will be the norm.

That's cool. I look forward to more of it. Lance isn't a bad interview by any stretch and was always gracious to our folks but I definitely appreciated Bullis' style.

For those that were curious, Morningside dropped to #4 in the NAIA poll this week.

Seems to me like it's a combination of arrogance and ignorance over there, when it comes to D-III football. In looking at comments on the Victory Sports Network, it appears some believe there's no excuse for losing to a D-III team.

Arrogant and Ignorant. I'm glad none of us are like that.  ;D

Of course I'm looking forward to the UWW vs. UWP game, it should be exciting as usual between these two.  Current forecast calls for excellent passing, and pass defense, weather.

I'm also very interested in UWO at UW Stout.  UW Stout has done unexpectedly well against a couple top teams.  They are putting together surprisingly strong offensive efforts.

Jordan Ratcliff (offense) and Lake Bachar (special teams) were named this week's WIAC players of the week.
