UW-Oshkosh has gained 1,846 yards and scored 190 points over their past THREE GAMES!  That's rather startling.  :o

Maybe I'm late with this, but glad you're back and safe kubiak.

QuoteCummings, a 6-foot-1, 225-pound senior from Waunakee, Wis., announced he was leaving the team on Tuesday due health reasons. Cummings threw 42 times Saturday, a career high in attempts, but was sacked seven times and hit countless others.

QuoteHe missed the final three games of last season with a concussion and missed a pair of games early in the season after taking a shot to the ribs.

Cummings, who transferred to UW-L after starting his collegiate career at NCAA Division II Minnesota State University, Mankato, completed 49 of 79 attempts this season for 544 yards with six touchdowns and one interception.

Sorry to see that for both Cummings and the team.  Hopefully this will be an opportunity for one of the two underclassmen that you spoke about before to step-up and lead.

This is the second year in a row the Eagles have had a starting quarterback leave in the middle of the season.  It seems this one is due to injury (or fear of further injury) while it was implied to be a behavioral issue last year (but never verified).  Feel bad for the guy, Cummings played well when he had enough time to actually take a full drop and read the defense but the oline/offensive coaching let him down and he got beat up in each of the three seasons he played.

Looking at the remaining schedule, the Eagles have opportunities for wins this weekend against Stout, home against Eau Claire, and at Stevens Point.  Whitewater/Oshkosh/Platteville will be tough while rotating two quarterbacks, neither of whom have come close to taking advantage of their previous opportunities.

A bad break for the Eagles but certainly understandable given Cumming's health issues.  I hope everything works out for him.

UWL seems to be snake-bitten.
Hopefully a star will rise from the QB position.

Aside from missing extra points, UWO is off to a heck of a start.  They've won in the fashion you'd expect them to win.  Against their toughest opponent-Robert Morris, they average 6.9 yards per carry on 33 attempts.  They bring a balanced Offense into the big matchup vs UWW.  We know they have strong play on the line of scrimmage.
On top of it, because there is no certainty in how the selection committee will view their out of D3 loss, they may well be playing for their playoff lives.

As an aside, regarding the NAIA.  UWO averaged 6.9 yds per carry against #12 RM and UWW averaged 4.8 yds per carry against #4 Morningside.

Mitigated pretty significantly by the fact that Oshkosh LOST at #12 Robert Morris while Whitewater WON at #4 Morningside.

To be clear, the purpose of the NAIA line was to point out how effective the two D3 teams were in running the ball vs the highly ranked NAIA teams.
As for UWO getting the loss, just another lesson in coaching decisions (likely passed the ball too many times) and executing the details.

I was thinking about the sluggishness of the UWW game vs UWP and the big Family Day attendance of 15,200.

From the perspective of most fans in attendance, what do you think is most important to them in deciding to attend another game- a win regardless of how it looks or a very entertaining game?

What about from the perspective of a recruit deciding on committing to UWW- is it more important that UWW won or that the game was entertaining (assuming of course UWW has an overall successful season)?

From the administration's perspective?

For me, it's the win.  But I've seen more than my fair share of great UWW games.  A Family Day crowd of 15,200 likely had many first time attendees.

I'd say the crowd would want an "exciting" game with a lot of scoring, people who seriously are thinking of playing for UWW probably would respect the win more since they probably are considering UWW football wise for winning games and championships.

From a recruiting standpoint, I would think the atmosphere of that game with that size crowd did wonders for the program (win or lose that day). Many recruits could probably picture themselves playing for a national contending team in front of a crowd like that.
