It worked, God willing I'll be there in full purple!

Any way you can sneak the cannon in?  ;D

As for Oshkosh their offense doesn't really scare me per se because it hasn't been against the best competition where they posted those numbers. While they don't scare me they can definitely beat UWW so I respect them. I just think UWW well play better offense and grind out another win.

My biggest concern is UWW being able to move the ball. I think our defense will be able to slow them down enough to give our offense a chance...but Nelson needs start being the QB we all know he can be.

Maybe we can go back to the playoff days a few years ago when the fans all yelled BOOM for a UWW score.  That was fun.

Like '02, I'm uncertain about the UWW offense at this point in the season.  As much as I love the UWW D, the problem with the close games is anything can happen in the end.  Even last week vs UWP, although it felt UWW was in control, one fluke play, or one outstanding play, and it's a different game.  UWO's option offense has that big play ability.  Hopefully the UWW offense can take some of that pressure off the D.

Heck, even if it doesn't work out tomorrow for the Dub, the stage will be set for the potential of 3 WIAC teams making the playoffs. I suspect come playoff time, UWW will be as dangerous as ever.

The offense didn't play particularly well against UWO or UWP once Kumerow was out either. Against UWO they were up quick and easy 14- and then bogged down before scoring 10 points and winning 24-7 and then they also gutted out one against UWP 17-7 as well. The offense doesn't have to be pretty, but I think it'll be better than last week which will be enough.

You're right, UWW did gut out those wins and they can do it again. It's just livin on the edge is all.
UWW did have the beast Justin Howard last year, and he did a nice job stepping up w/out Kumerow in both games.  I'm holding out hope that we will see that this receiving corp can replace Justin's production.

That's awesome. And I don't blame them for trying. Last week's WIAC opener drew 976 fans at UW-O. This Saturday is their annual Pub Crawl.  That could be interesting...  :o

I think it's agreed that winning is the priority.
I didn't intend to ask the question as a "what's more important" discussion.
Just Bill had good insight on this.
D3 isn't D1, yet some rules apply. An enthusiastic parent, student and general fan base enhances the school experience, which becomes a marketing plus.

JustBill made some interesting points about program issues and priorities you didn't ask about.

What you addressed me about was very specific: "I wonder if coaches take into account the entertainment and resulting marketing impact of their game plans."

A game plan is a very specific thing.

You were at the Whitewater game. Did the game plan strike you as one that  "took into account the entertainment and resulting marketing impact"?

Should it have? Of course not. Not one millisecond.

I would contend that even 5 minutes spent on "entertainment value" in preparing to defeat an opponent would show a lack of focus. Entertainment value has nothing to do with winning so it has nothing to do with a game plan.

You're so edgy. So I'll put your name in the column of No! -a coach should never consider the entertainment/marketing value when putting together a game plan.

As you can imagine, I'm not as convinced about that. I can envision degrees to this concept.
One possibly unacceptable example is full utilization of a player's abilities. In the 2011 Stagg Bowl, Matt Blanchard made a bad decision in the red zone and threw a pick. The UWW offense went into a shell after that. This is slightly different than a full game plan for a home crowd, but I see strong similarities as well.

Not edgy, it's all good. Just trying to write with precision. I don't disagree with the others. I'm simply taking a more literal approach to what you said.

As far as this response, I think you are going to have to explain it to me tomorrow. I have no idea what that last paragraph even means.  ;)

No real offensive threat caught up to the hawks this season. The good news is their schedule gets a lot easier the rest of the season. Pool C hopes are alive as long as Oshkosh beats Platteville.

Nelson way too hesitant. Seems like he won't throw unless he's 100% certain. Trust your receivers to make a play. Then again our WR group isn't as strong this year, which makes for a lot of uncertainty. Seems like the coaching staff doesn't trust the offensive either with the way they called the game.

Oshkosh is very strong...lots of strength up front on both sides of the ball. UWW lost the trench battle which was very rare.

UWO over UWP would pretty well clinch it (assuming UWW wins out), but I find it hard to believe a 9-1 UWW would be left out regardless.

There are a multitude of issues to correct before this team can be mentioned again in championship talk. QB is certainly on top of the list.

Platteville survives a tough game with Point.  Jack Eddy in for injured QB Tom Kelly gets of to a slow start  but was making some nice throws by the end of the game.   SP stopped Platteville's running game for most of the game. Word is Kelly is out for a couple of weeks  he was on the sidelines in  sweats and a boot on his injured foot.

I do hope UWP and UWO are at full strength at QB when they meet. I think a UWP win puts 3 WIAC teams in line for playoffs if all 3 win the league games they should.
