Aside from cubs and the former football player, who's handle is totally escaping me right now, none of them are interested enough to involve themselves in this forum.
I have nothing but respect and admiration for what Coach Cerroni has accomplished at UWO!!!  He is one guy that I still pull for at UWO.

With that said, you won't see me step foot on the UWO campus again in support of their athletic programs....

A few thoughts about UWO.

Before the second place season in 2011, the last time the Titans finished that high was 1976. And in more than 20 of those seasons, they finished 6th, 7th of 8th. They finished third just twice. And just FOUR winning seasons. There are generations of college students there who haven't had winning football. So, while that should (and I think has) mean some more excitement now, there's no culture or tradition of going to the games. And that means thousands of alumni just don't have an emotional connection to the program.

The stadium is across the river and the parking sucks. While both obstacles can be overcome, they are indeed problems to contend with. While students can walk (in most weather), it is an obstacle in terms of community support.

While TV coverage isn't the be all and end all, it does help in terms of community awareness and excitement. It doesn't help that UWO is an hour from the Green Bay-based television stations. With their limited staffs on the weekends, the Titans highlights aren't shown every home game. Given the choice, the stations would more often choose the much closer - and recently more successful - St. Norbert team for getting a few local college football highlights on any given Saturday. This, too, has gotten better of late, but is indicative of the lack of excitement for the program.

In terms of posters on this board... I'm not sure how most people find out about it. And, frankly, it can be an intimidating environment for some. I doubt d3football.com is advertising on campus looking for people to join in. So, it becomes word of mouth. I don't find it too surprising there aren't suddenly more UWO folks on here. Maybe the admins see that wins=more posters.

As a UWEC Blugold, I can relate to long droughts - but I won't mention the Blugolds men's basketball team.  ;)

Some good points about UWO's coverage, which suffers in that Oshkosh is an hour away from Green Bay. The local GB media does give coverage to the WIAC, oftentimes as a flavor of the day, but it generally takes a back seat to St. Norbert's and UWGB, plus the GB high schools. And the Packers always dominate the sports coverage, especially on Saturdays and Sundays, and even during the off season...

You also have a good point on how fans become aware of this website. I can't remember how I found out about it - probably through the local radio announcer giving it mention as to how certain WIAC teams were ranked in the latest D3 poll.  And yes, this can be an intimidating site, and many newcomers are, alas, driven away...

FYP... please, please, please... no "'s" for St. Norbert.

It's nails on a chalkboard!

Hard to imagine how newcomers are driven away.  When a newcomer comes onto the board, whether it's this one or another conference, it seems regular posters go out of their way to welcome them- almost to the point it seems over-board.  I'd be interested in seeing the number of newcomers (making a post) that have come to this board in the last year.
My guess is if they are driven away, it's not something said to them, but perhaps a fear of being challenged in the way regular posters are challenged.

Assuming a lot of people lurk before posting, it's probably not what's said to a poster when they make their initial post, so much as what they observe to be the tone and ethos of the board itself. And that's where a board can do itself a lot good by self-policing. You can have 30 great posters, but 3-4 yahoos who can ruin things.

RF over Stout 54-48 marks only the second season in the last 13 with four wins. Beginning in 2003, RF has had fewer than four wins in 11 of the 13. They last won four games in 2008. What's that mean? I'm not sure. A turn around? Maybe. We now move into the toughest part of our schedule: Point, WW, Osh. This is one tough league!

I really do appreciate what you're saying here Haz, and Bulk19 too.  However, at some point don't we have to say "come on man".  I'd love to never say anything mean to anybody again for the rest of my life, but I've got my own idiosyncrasies that get in the way. Message boards aren't for everyone, just as stamp collecting or bird watching or cliff diving or watching the Walking Dead (completely addicted) etc. aren't for everyone.  I feel this whole "drives them away" idea gets a little overplayed.  IMO, it's likely the majority that leave simply aren't message board people.

UWO jumps out to a 28-7 first quarter lead and never looks back en route to a 63-28 victory over Platteville.  Brett Kasper returns to the field and throws for nearly 400 yards and 4 TD's.  Pretty obvious how much more explosive UWO is offensively when Kasper is "under center" for UWO.

UWO hosts River Falls next week, who is one game behind UWO in the WIAC standings.

8-) Yahoos make the board go round.
Don't they?

This board was better without UWO posters  ;D
UWO looked terrific today. Defense making plays and offense doing their thing. Kasper was special.
Well done.

You know it gets overplayed or you know it drives people away?

WW beats Platteville 17-7, Oshkosh  beats WW 10-7,  I was expecting a close hard fought game hopefully with the Pioneers winning with a late score.  Oshkosh totally dominated Platteville.  Platteville scores on the opening drive I'm  feeling pretty good I go to get a hot dog next  thing I know it's 7-7 and Platteville's defense can not stop Oshkosh I don't think Oshkosh punted in the first half.  Kelly had plenty of time to throw but Oshkosh had good coverage and Kelly either ran for a few yards or got sacked.  If Oshkosh plays like they did yesterday they will very tough to beat.

From La Crosse: UWL 27 (3-4 and 2-2), UWEC 25 (0-7 and 0-4)

Entertaining game as the players had their track shoes on - UWL had two backs (Erich Rahman and Austin Mancosky) gaining 100+ each on the ground, while UWEC's Toure Wallace had 235 and a pair of TDs... UWEC's freshman class was well represented, as Wallace, K Liam O'Malley (four field goals is a UWEC record in a game) and QB JT Denhartog all had good games...

But the Blugolds gave up way too many big plays, and in little TOP on several TD drives -
a three-play drive that went 80, and 8-play that went 74, to put UWL up 14-0 in the first Q; a three-play drive in the second Q that included an 80-yard run by Mancosky; and a killer 88-yard TD kickoff return to Mike Santucci in the third quarter after a Blugold FG had cut the lead to 21-16.

UWEC moved the ball well - 488 total yards - but were not able to capitalize to the max, as UWL's defense stiffened. UWEC made four of six FG attempts in addition to the two TDs they scored, but missed what could have been a potential game winner from 42 yards out with under 2:30 to go. 'Golds then forced a punt, but were unable to muster anything on their last drive, which stalled at its own 40 when the Eagles knocked down a deep pass to hand it over to UWL for the victory position...

The snakebite at the UWL QB position over the last few seasons reared its ugly head again, as sophomore Josh Tackett, who played well and had led the Eagles' first three TD drives, was sacked on a blitz in the second quarter; he did not return, due to a probable shoulder injury.

Next up for UWEC, a trip Whitewater; UWL travels to Point.
