Casting aside the regional rankings, which don't actually rank based on likely outcomes of games, who would you select as top 4 seeds?
If the selections were done today, who would you pick for Pool B and C?

Need more information. Do we still have the 1 flight first round constraint or is this pie in the sky, money doesn't matter kind of thing?

I should have clarified. There are other boards here where you guys are doing a great job based upon current rules. This is just guys hanging out w some pitchers of beer (man I miss those days) and taking turns with their own projections- no limitations as currently imposed.

Starting w the top 4 I agree with Mt, Linfield and St. Thomas. I struggle w Wesley as a #1 seed, but I also struggle w UWO as a #1 seed. At the end of the day though, I'd pick UWO to beat Wesley. I'd also pick Wheaton to beat Wesley. If Wheaton's #1 QB was playing, I'd probably pick Wheaton. As I don't think that's the case, UWO is my fourth #1.

This reminds me -- I need to get my pitcher of beer. :)

As long as you and Keith don't over-indulge before the podcast, it's all good. :)

Nah, it's not a Robert Morris thing because I think things like extra points can be worked out over time.
Having watched them play UWW, I didn't get the feeling they were final 4 capable.  I give them credit for playing so tough with not only one but two injured QB's in that game, yet I also recognize how different UWW was at that time of the season (and maybe still be).  Obviously I can be way wrong, and maybe this season is different, I don't think UWO has the offense to get them into the final four (assuming they have to play through a side of the bracket similar to UWW in the past).

UWO's chances for a #1 seed likely improved today, as Wesley lost to Salisbury....  If Salisbury wins again next week, you can throw Wesley into the Pool C mix.

With Illinois Wesleyan losing, we could see North Central enter the North Regional Rankings this week, which would help Platteville's case for a Pool C bid....

With that said however, with Wesley losing today, the field for the six Pool C bids got even more crowded!!!

IWU will not fall completely out of the rankings.  I think NCC will be ranked (in the secret final rankings if not this week), but it has nothing to do with IWU losing (unless they lose again NEXT week, of course).

RHIT losing is probably the result that clears the deck for North Central.

NCC's potential appearance in the RR helps all three teams that beat them. Wheaton, Wesley and UWP.

Eagles push Oshkosh, but fall short

QuoteThe UW-La Crosse football knew it would take its best effort to knock off third-ranked and WIAC-leading UW-Oshkosh on Saturday. For most of the game, the Eagles put forth that effort and were within a score of tying or going ahead of the Titans.

But a pair of third-quarter drives within the Oshkosh 5-yard line resulted in just three points for the Eagles, and the Titans were able to pull away late for a 31-13 WIAC win at Veterans Memorial Field.

QuoteFreshman Drew David started at quarterback for UW-L in place of expected starter Andrew Thompson. Thompson suffered an ankle injury last week against Stevens Point and was on track to start this week, but David was healthier and gave the Eagles a better chance to move the ball, coach Joel Dettwiler said.

QuoteDavid performed well in his second start of the season — his first start came Oct. 10 against Stout, but he left the game with an injury after one drive. The freshman Illinois State transfer finished with 177 yards on 16 of 28 passing and a perfect back-shoulder throw for a TD to Oxton in the second quarter.

"He played like we want him to play. He's a tough kid and he's going to challenge to be our starting quarterback in the future," Dettwiler said.

David's best attribute was his ability to avoid pressure and extend plays by moving outside of the pocket, which was aided by a marked improvement in the play of his offensive line, which allowed just one sack and just two tackles for loss.

"Extending plays is something I've gotten used to growing up playing football, and I've always liked to. Johnny Manziel runs around and makes plays and I like to be the guy to do that," David said.

It's very surprising and impressive that the Eagles were able to put up 225 yards rushing at 6.1 yards per carry against Oshkosh. UW-O will have to remedy that if they want to get anywhere in the post season.

This was a heck of a week for the WIAC.  UWEC was at 30-26 against UWP before the Pointers put them away in the 4th.  UWL was at 17-13 against UWO (and I think had a TD called back due to penalty) before the Titans put the game away in the 4th.  UWS beats UWSP 34-31.  And although the UWW-UWRF score looks lopsided, it was a close game at half and the Falcons put up 432 yards of offense, with 329 via the air from back-up QB's.  UWW sure has had it's challenges playing back-up QB's this year.

For the final games of the 3 potential playoff teams, UWO has UWEC, which should be the most certain of outcomes.  UWP has UWL and UWW has UWS- not an easy path for either playoff hopeful.

I like the direction that Nelson is going heading into the postseason. Of course that depends on if they can take care of Stout. Is it just me, or does the offense seem to be pass heavy the past few weeks? I assume that's designed so it can give Nelson the most amount attempts as possible to get his timing and confidence up...basically getting him ready for the post season.

Since I couldn't watch or listen to the game. How did that Gumina TD throw go down? I did a double take when I saw in the Live Stats that Gumina throws a 43 TD pass to Hudson.

Also, that 50 yard Ratliffe reception. Was that a designed screen pass? If it was, great call getting Ratliffe in the open field with blockers a head of him. I love the screen pass. #2014StaggBowl
