This was a heck of a week for the WIAC.  UWEC was at 30-26 against UWP before the Pointers Pioneers put them away in the 4th.  UWL was at 17-13 against UWO (and I think had a TD called back due to penalty) before the Titans put the game away in the 4th.  UWS beats UWSP 34-31.  And although the UWW-UWRF score looks lopsided, it was a close game at half and the Falcons put up 432 yards of offense, with 329 via the air from back-up QB's.  UWW sure has had it's challenges playing back-up QB's this year.

For the final games of the 3 potential playoff teams, UWO has UWEC, which should be the most certain of outcomes.  UWP has UWL and UWW has UWS- not an easy path for either playoff hopeful.

I like the direction that Nelson is going heading into the postseason. Of course that depends on if they can take care of Stout. Is it just me, or does the offense seem to be pass heavy the past few weeks? I assume that's designed so it can give Nelson the most amount attempts as possible to get his timing and confidence up...basically getting him ready for the post season.

Since I couldn't watch or listen to the game. How did that Gumina TD throw go down? I did a double take when I saw in the Live Stats that Gumina throws a 43 TD pass to Hudson.

Also, that 50 yard Ratliffe reception. Was that a designed screen pass? If it was, great call getting Ratliffe in the open field with blockers a head of him. I love the screen pass. #2014StaggBowl

Ratliffe's reception was a screen to the left. We had a three blocker to two defender advantage and both defenders ended up on the ground. Ratliffe made a safety miss farther downfield and was off to the races down the sideline.

Gumina came in motion left to right. The timed shotgun snap was taken by Nelson and he immediately handed it to Gumina. Gumina then pulled up and threw to Hudson who was two steps behind the defender. The throw was half-way between a high flyball and a wounded duck. Marcus Hudson did what Marcus Hudson almost always does. He came back and made the play on the ball and took it to the house.  The throw was bad enough that Tony was literally laughing when he got to the sideline.

If a 15 point lead in half of a game of football is close, I guess it was close.

I think the comment relates to 14-6 with just over a minute left in the first half, with RF in the Whitewater red zone.  A big stop and a quick 50 second TD drive was a huge swing, and it sent a close game into UWW control.
What the hell was that?  That was a Drop-kick.  Drop-kick? How much is that worth?  Three points.  THREE POINTS?!

I'm not sure that's really close either, but I was definitely surprised at the yardage UWRF was able to gain against UWW.  I chalked it up to UWW playing some backups late in the game, but was it more than that?

Hmm, let's see, 15 points is a two-score game.  Ask Coach Bullis if he thinks a two-score game is close.  ;D

Screaming- UWRF had roughly 200 yards at halftime.

Listening to the game on the radio (does anyone actually pay to watch the RF video?) I thought the first half was pretty competitive.  I wouldn't say I was worried when it was 14-6 with five and half minutes left but I was glad we got the late touchdown with thirteen seconds remaining.   Then when we shut down their first possession of the second half I thought we were on our way.

Casting aside the regional rankings, which don't actually rank based on likely outcomes of games, who would you select as top 4 seeds?
If the selections were done today, who would you pick for Pool B and C?

Need more information. Do we still have the 1 flight first round constraint or is this pie in the sky, money doesn't matter kind of thing?

I should have clarified. There are other boards here where you guys are doing a great job based upon current rules. This is just guys hanging out w some pitchers of beer (man I miss those days) and taking turns with their own projections- no limitations as currently imposed.

Starting w the top 4 I agree with Mt, Linfield and St. Thomas. I struggle w Wesley as a #1 seed, but I also struggle w UWO as a #1 seed. At the end of the day though, I'd pick UWO to beat Wesley. I'd also pick Wheaton to beat Wesley. If Wheaton's #1 QB was playing, I'd probably pick Wheaton. As I don't think that's the case, UWO is my fourth #1.

This reminds me -- I need to get my pitcher of beer. :)

Send me your IP address and it will be right over.

Nope....at least I sure didn't.   I realize RF needs to make some money, but I am not sure that is the way to do it.

I paid, twice.   :'(
In my rush to get logged into the game, I didn't read the description of the game on the Boxcast page the link took me too.
The first drive was really impressive, with a great halfback up the sideline pass and then one of the most innovative 2-point conversions I've seen.  The video wasn't the greatest quality, but the visitor uniforms were white with what looked like purple.  I couldn't believe Marcus Hudson was at QB though, and he was making plays like he's been at that position all his life.  I was thinking wow- Coach Smith has been hiding this the whole season.
The dark clouds really made it look like a night game.
And then I got to thinking...
Turns out I was watching the South Dakota School of Mines play River Falls.  At least it was an exciting game.   :o

I was able to see the second touchdown of the UWW game, after paying another 8 bucks.
I remember one of the announcers had the hardest time saying Warhawks last year.  This year was the same, he just shortened it to Whitehawks.

The good, the bad and the ugly from UWL's game against UWO: THE GOOD: Behind Freshman QB Drew David, UWL put 402 yds. of offense on the board. Even the often comatose running game averaged 6.1 yards per carry. Good job. David has my vote to run the offense next year. The team was resilient and hung in there when it could have gotten steamrolled, and the coaching staff deserves credit for keeping the team in the game. I had expected a far worse outcome against an excellent Titan squad. THE BAD: The defense couldn't get off the field quickly enough to give us a chance to win. Of course, UWO has many weapons. Still, the Eagles will need to be able to handle quality offenses if they hope to be a contender. We had to hear the sickening sound of yet another blocked kick. Not as costly as at RF, but still aggravating. THE UGLY: The imitation Oakland Raider uniforms. Schools have colors, and their uniforms should reflect same. BTW: The program indicated that UWO has 23 assistant coaches. Do we really need that many ? In D3 ? I am sure that many are graduate assistants and/or volunteers, but it still seems like a lot. In any case, my sincere congratulations to the Titans. I hope they make some noise in the playoffs.

Really looking forward to this weekend's game vs Stout. They will surely test the D- this is a good opportunity for UWW to put on their big game faces.

I hope the O continues to be aggressive- along w more cowbell I'd like more slants, more fades, more tight end seam routes and more balls thrown to the young playmakers (and old ones too).

Thesis-high level administrative support is virtually a necessity now if a wiac, miac, or mwc football program is to be respectable, let alone successful. hamline appears to be making an effort to become respectable, while uwrf, carleton, and st Olaf appear to be doing little or nothing. Pres Rosenberg at macalester has made it clear that he wants a respectable program. I counted about 75 Mac players dressed at their recent game with Beloit, which is over double the size of the roster not that long ago.

Examples? Bob Sullivan's excellent career at Carleton was certainly aided by pres Lewis and frank wright. Uwrf Chancellor George field ( with a major assist from ad don page) contributed tremendously to mike farley's eight conference championships. (An aside-wright and field were football teammates as Carleton undergrads.)  Mac's four winning miac seasons under tom hosier during the 1980's following their massive losing streak must have had some major assistance from top administrators.

In 1982 elite swarthmore college had an undefeated football team late in the season. A number of faculty and alums objected because they thought winning football games detracted from swathmore's lofty intellectual status. How much, if any, of this attitude exists at Carleton and st Olaf now? Oh, by the way, Amherst which places ahead of Carleton in most rankings of liberal arts colleges, has not had a losing football season for many years.
