UWEC decides not to renew head coach Glaser:

Not a surprise.  Especially since I've heard the new AD wants to make football a big priority.  Brother played there as well and him and a few other alums were wondering what was going on over the last few years, as the program seemed to be losing more and more.  Curious what the cause was (recruiting, coaching, etc.).  Interesting to see who they bring in.

Will WW's D-Coordinator Rob Erickson be a candidate?  He was a finalist for the WW job last year.

Wow. Good question.
I won't hold it against him if he's pursuing a career goal, but I hope he stays.

That's nice of you, Emma. I'm sure he'll be relieved to hear that.   ;)

(I'm not addressing you anymore Emma, I just couldn't resist)

Rob will be a head coach one day. Period. He is a great coach and even greater person.  He also has the confidence and the wisdom to know that patience can really pay off in the coaching profession.  He was on the short list at UW-W. He doesn't need to jump at the first offer. I wouldn't blame Eau Claire for pursuing him.  But my guess is they are going to have to present tangible evidence they are serious about building a championship football team.  Resources talk. And it needs to come from the chancellor, not "just" the AD.  A good start would be to make their coach the highest paid Head Coach in the WIAC. And then committed monies to facilities, football budget, and well paid assistants.

(Have I made him unaffordable yet?  ;) )

We can only imagine what would have happened had Todd Glaser turned down, or had not gotten, the UWEC job in 2006, and one of the other Blugold coaching finalists had been offered the job instead.
That being? Lance Leipold...

Yep. The finalists: Lakeland College head coach Jim Zebrowski, Marietta College head coach Todd Glaser, University of Nebraska-Omaha associate head coach Lance Leipold and University of North Dakota associate head coach Chris Mussman.

Very interesting, I don't recall hearing that story.
So where would UWEC have been seeded in the brackets today if LL got the job?   :D

I'd say that worked out well for UW-W hey?

OT, but could Coach Leipold be moving up faster than we had initially thought? Buffalo's AD just left for UCF, and they do not have a football coach.

I highly doubt it. That ties the AD to that decision irrevocably. Much better to choose someone else. If he pulls LL, his career as AD is completely dependent on that decision working out. "He hired this guy twice in a year! On a barely .500 record. How can he be that bad at evaluating talent?" He dismissed Quinn at 3-4. LL is 5-5 right now. With the Zips and UMass to go, he shouldn't be worse than 6-6 and stands a good shot at 7-5, but not exactly the massive step forward that would justify immediately hiring him at the next stop.

Granted if it worked out he'd be a genius. But with a different hire he doesn't have to worry about it. And if the new hire doesn't work out, and LL does, he can always try again with a buffer in the middle. But hauling LL on his coat tails would be very high risk politically.
