My only thought is that many UWW posters are now posting things that they found objectionable 10 years ago. I'm getting old, but I do remember how quickly they took (and take) offense when somebody questions the invincibility of their Warhawks. My how the worm has turned.

I remember reading those posts. It was all the Johnnie and Linfield fans specifically saying UWW had no chance to win and they would get smashed. Flash forward and we now have UWW fans saying "I think UWW will win, new game, the team is better but UWO is good too and could easily win". VERY different. I think a lot of fans need that PC safe space board because they're too sensitive.

While yes, many UWW fans were way too sensitive about Blanchard obviously having next to no shot to make the team that doesn't really mean that other fans aren't just as sensitive about anything UWW fans post.
Ah, yes, the good old days.................. ;)

I discovered the boards in the middle of the 05 season and when the play-offs rolled around, we would have a new opponent, from a storied program, come on the WIAC board every week and tell us how WIAC boys were all, "big, slow and dumb."  How we had noooooooo business even thinking our team had a shot in hell of winning against them.  That, "no WIAC team will be playing football in December."  Some of the Johnnies and the Cats fans were pretty brutal. It took years of winning and A LOT of it to back down some of the rhetoric thrown at us in those early days when the Hawks started making some noise at the national level. Happy to say that over the years, I  have gotten to know a few of those Linfield posters and am happy to call them friends of mine now.

Funny, I don't remember comments drawing nearly as much fire on this board back in those days.   ;D     8-)

413, I was one of those Johnnie posters in 2005.  My comments were a little more subdued than some of my fellow Johnnie posters.  I hope no one said dumb.  I believe our previous opponent from the WIAC was Stevens Point in 2003.  And they were big and slow.  I think some of us (don't remember if it was me) complained that we didn't host the 2005 game, since we were clearly the better team. :'( ;)

I remember well OldPa (aka Janesville Flash) stating matter of factly WW would win.  I thought it was total BS.  I learned that OldPa was always right, God bless his soul.

After that game many of us came on PP and commented on how good WW was.  It was a total shock to me.  I have not doubted WW in a single game since, with the exception of Stagg Bowls.  Given recent history, I now consider them the favorite every year.  I do this year.  I was wrong too many times picking against them.

I follow these boards closely and what I saw in bleedpurple's post fit's the Wikipedia definition:  Sarcasm is "a sharp, bitter, or cutting expression or remark; a bitter gibe or taunt.

bleedpurple typically uses lots of emoticons to denote he's poking fun.  None on that post.

Remember, everyone is entitled to their opinion, even if it's wrong.   ;) ;D 8-) :P
Well....... not exactly as I remember it, ROR.  I don't doubt your word that you gave credit to UWW after that game but there was A LOT more of, "UWW didn't win the game as much as the Johnnies lost it!"  To the point that I remember Pat dropping in to defend our win, said that we earned it, and that good defenses have a lot to do with a team fumbling .  His exact words were,  "it's not like the Johnnies just laid the ball on the turf 5 times."

I think it took a rematch or two before the MIAC boys stopped throwing the legendary coach and program comments at the upstart Warhawk fans.   ;D 8-)

Granted, I haven't been around the boards as much this season but I just find it interesting that after the last 10 years of our success, many non-UWW posters are pretty quick to jump on any of our posts, as out of line/arrogant.  I have seen nothing from any of my guys that rival the posts that welcomed me to the boards in 05 before we proved that we could play, and stay, with the big boys.   ;)

Seeing as this has gone far off topic, I'll post what I think is going to happen in this game having been at the first one.

The first game for UWW was probably one of the worst play calling games on offense I've ever witnessed. 9/11 times the first play was a zone read run which wasn't fooling Oshkosh. They kept it way too vanilla whether it was nerves or new coaching staff, it wasn't good. Combine that with an Oshkosh defense who knew UWW was going to ride Ratliffe to a W, and they just teed off and brought people whenever possible. The passing game was not good, Nelson held on to the ball far too long and missed some throws. Credit to Oshkosh their secondary was lock down most of the day. Defensively the Hawks couldn't get off the field on 3rd down and the secondary was playing far too soft on the edges in both the short passing game and the run game.

Flash forward to now: UWW has a passing attack that has gone vertically more times recently than all season. Yes the UW-RF game was not as the score seems, but neither was last year, and we all know how that ended. Ratliffe has been a monster and I have a hard time believing those 1-2 yard runs in the first game won't be 4-5 yard runs this game. The front 7 for UWW has been on fire, much better than the beginning of the season. Oshkosh matches up well across the front 7. The one advantage I have in this game: the UWW players and seniors have been in this type of game now for their 13th time vs. Oshkosh who hasn't played in many types of these games. That goes to speak volumes for experience and how to handle a little playoff adversity.

Prediction: I think it'll be a first half slug fest, but as proven in the first game Oshkosh struggled incredibly to move the ball. Combo that with an improved UWW offense who should be able to control the clock a little, I'm going UWW 24 UWO 14.

+k, excellent post. Glad to have you on board.

Now that Tart, JK, Pat, and Ret have weighed in, all we need is for Wally to comment and I officially hit the jackpot.

Hey now. I said nothing about your comments. I simply expressed my worship of all things UWW, from the manliness of the men to the epitome of womanhood that are the females. Surely the rest of us in DIII can bask in the reflected magnificence of the university, student body, and especially the football program? Would you deny us even that small bit of your greater glory?

My vote is yes- we should deny you even a small bit. Those glories you speak of are earned and not given-

It's so funny you mention that. I always think about whether to put a smiley face in. I go back and forth. Sometimes with sarcasm, the post just seems funnier without it. Seems almost too obvious. But I confess I am guilty of forgetting what is obvious to the poster isn't always obvious to the reader!

I will do my best to read your posts as sarcastic rather than caustic, but I would definitely suggest an emoticon of some sorts to help drive that point home. My apologies for blowing that up.

I'm a sucker and keep coming back and posting here despite my better judgment, but I don't think anything here has been too over the edge. But I've been on these boards for like 15 years so I've seen a lot. I've said before that I feel UWW fans are allowed some arrogance.

And for the record, it wasn't just the Cats and Johnnie posters in 05.  MUC fans were pretty brutal on the boards , as well.............

and tailgating, in the bars and restaurants, hotels, elevators.........................  ;) ;D 8-)

I know it had to be published and I just missed it somewhere, but does anybody know what the attendance was at the UWW-Wheaton Game last week?  I just want to have a number to compare against this week.  I was a big crowd from both sides but I am thinking the UWO may draw a few more.  Of course I don't want to sound arrogant with the assumption that the WIAC may draw a bigger crowd than another conference

Probably worse since likely more students. They were the bad ones at the 2013 Stagg Bowl. Very drunk, got called a faggot at least 5 times.

Funny you say that...I had a similar experience in Naperville for the NCC/UWW game in 2010. However, the "F bomb" was added to it. I remember just patting him on the back saying "we'll see how the game turns out" with a  ;D on my face.

My experiences at Stagg 05-07 involved verbal abuse from as many, "grown ups," as students.  But we had not beaten the Raiders yet and unfortunately, the skies opened up as the 07 game ended and we all fled the stadium and flew out really early the next morning.  I never got a chance to see, first hand, how their fans handled adversity.  ;D

I'm bored this afternoon.  I went back and looked at posts pre and post the 2005 game.  Yes, there was a lot of yapping, mostly by the Johnnies.  We learned trash talking from the east coast guys when we played RPI in the 2000 playoffs.  The WIAC board is more serious.  Not a negative, just an observation.  In the  end, there was a lot of football talk and posting of statistics by both sides.

Post game there were MANY Johnnie posters congratulating the Warhawks.  ONE person posted the Johnnies lost the game, and Pat addressed a response to that one person.

Pat's post (emphasis mine):

Quote from: Pat Coleman on November 27, 2005, 08:16:45 PM
You'd be the first person to say that -- everyone else, Johnnie fans included, knows that UWW would have won that game regardless.

Remember, five of the eight fumbles were forced. It's not as if SJU simply laid the ball on the turf eight times. And how about four shots from the 5-yard line and not a yard gained, including three passes broken up? How about one scoring "drive" of 24 yards?

My post:

Congratulations to the Warhawks on your impressive win over the Johnnies.  The better team won the game.  I was down on the field and got a close up look at the action.

Good luck next week against Linfield.

Great to meet Voice and Oldpa today.
