Yuck. The f-bomb slur is about as neanderthal as you can go. It's pretty much when you have nothing else to say. There's ribbing and then there's just being dumb.

02 Warhawk

No matter who wins tomorrow it's nice knowing the WIAC has represented the semifinals for 11 years in a row now. Not sure if any other conference can say that (when multiple teams are involved). Also, it's safe to say I'll be pulling for the winner of this game for the rest of the tournament.

Can you imagine a WIAC school going into Alliance and winning??

This is me if UWW wins in Alliance:  ;D

My only thought is that many UWW posters are now posting things that they found objectionable 10 years ago. I'm getting old, but I do remember how quickly they took (and take) offense when somebody questions the invincibility of their Warhawks. My how the worm has turned.

I remember reading those posts. It was all the Johnnie and Linfield fans specifically saying UWW had no chance to win and they would get smashed. Flash forward and we now have UWW fans saying "I think UWW will win, new game, the team is better but UWO is good too and could easily win". VERY different. I think a lot of fans need that PC safe space board because they're too sensitive.

While yes, many UWW fans were way too sensitive about Blanchard obviously having next to no shot to make the team that doesn't really mean that other fans aren't just as sensitive about anything UWW fans post.
Ah, yes, the good old days.................. ;)

I discovered the boards in the middle of the 05 season and when the play-offs rolled around, we would have a new opponent, from a storied program, come on the WIAC board every week and tell us how WIAC boys were all, "big, slow and dumb."  How we had noooooooo business even thinking our team had a shot in hell of winning against them.  That, "no WIAC team will be playing football in December."  Some of the Johnnies and the Cats fans were pretty brutal. It took years of winning and A LOT of it to back down some of the rhetoric thrown at us in those early days when the Hawks started making some noise at the national level. Happy to say that over the years, I  have gotten to know a few of those Linfield posters and am happy to call them friends of mine now.

Funny, I don't remember comments drawing nearly as much fire on this board back in those days.   ;D     8-)

413, I was one of those Johnnie posters in 2005.  My comments were a little more subdued than some of my fellow Johnnie posters.  I hope no one said dumb.  I believe our previous opponent from the WIAC was Stevens Point in 2003.  And they were big and slow.  I think some of us (don't remember if it was me) complained that we didn't host the 2005 game, since we were clearly the better team. :'( ;)

I remember well OldPa (aka Janesville Flash) stating matter of factly WW would win.  I thought it was total BS.  I learned that OldPa was always right, God bless his soul.

After that game many of us came on PP and commented on how good WW was.  It was a total shock to me.  I have not doubted WW in a single game since, with the exception of Stagg Bowls.  Given recent history, I now consider them the favorite every year.  I do this year.  I was wrong too many times picking against them.

I follow these boards closely and what I saw in bleedpurple's post fit's the Wikipedia definition:  Sarcasm is "a sharp, bitter, or cutting expression or remark; a bitter gibe or taunt.

bleedpurple typically uses lots of emoticons to denote he's poking fun.  None on that post.

Remember, everyone is entitled to their opinion, even if it's wrong.   ;) ;D 8-) :P
Well....... not exactly as I remember it, ROR.  I don't doubt your word that you gave credit to UWW after that game but there was A LOT more of, "UWW didn't win the game as much as the Johnnies lost it!"  To the point that I remember Pat dropping in to defend our win, said that we earned it, and that good defenses have a lot to do with a team fumbling .  His exact words were,  "it's not like the Johnnies just laid the ball on the turf 5 times."

I think it took a rematch or two before the MIAC boys stopped throwing the legendary coach and program comments at the upstart Warhawk fans.   ;D 8-)

Granted, I haven't been around the boards as much this season but I just find it interesting that after the last 10 years of our success, many non-UWW posters are pretty quick to jump on any of our posts, as out of line/arrogant.  I have seen nothing from any of my guys that rival the posts that welcomed me to the boards in 05 before we proved that we could play, and stay, with the big boys.   ;)

Ret is right, the worm has turned.................................. 8-)

I'm bored this afternoon.  I went back and looked at posts pre and post the 2005 game.  Yes, there was a lot of yapping, mostly by the Johnnies.  We learned trash talking from the east coast guys when we played RPI in the 2000 playoffs.  The WIAC board is more serious.  Not a negative, just an observation.  In the  end, there was a lot of football talk and posting of statistics by both sides.

Post game there were MANY Johnnie posters congratulating the Warhawks.  ONE person posted the Johnnies lost the game, and Pat addressed a response to that one person.

Pat's post (emphasis mine):

Quote from: Pat Coleman on November 27, 2005, 08:16:45 PM
You'd be the first person to say that -- everyone else, Johnnie fans included, knows that UWW would have won that game regardless.

Remember, five of the eight fumbles were forced. It's not as if SJU simply laid the ball on the turf eight times. And how about four shots from the 5-yard line and not a yard gained, including three passes broken up? How about one scoring "drive" of 24 yards?

My post:

Congratulations to the Warhawks on your impressive win over the Johnnies.  The better team won the game.  I was down on the field and got a close up look at the action.

Good luck next week against Linfield.

Great to meet Voice and Oldpa today.
I stand corrected then.  With my memory these days, no surprise that the bad one is about the only one I remember.  But I only brought that up because you referred to the post game banter.  I was referring to all the pre-game stuff.

But thanks for reposting Pat's list of defensive stops and that it was, actually, 8 fumbles, not 5.   Damn, my boys could play defense.   ;) ;D 8-)

It's so funny you mention that. I always think about whether to put a smiley face in. I go back and forth. Sometimes with sarcasm, the post just seems funnier without it. Seems almost too obvious. But I confess I am guilty of forgetting what is obvious to the poster isn't always obvious to the reader!

I will do my best to read your posts as sarcastic rather than caustic, but I would definitely suggest an emoticon of some sorts to help drive that point home. My apologies for blowing that up.
Pat, thanks for that. And it's all good. I will also try to be more mindful of how my posts could be interpreted. At least it woke up the WIAC board!  ;)

Usee, my apologies. You are definitely in the circle. I think there may be a couple of others as well. It doesn't feel complete quite yet...

On a serious note (maybe I should qualify my posts that are NOT tongue in cheek), I think all of the predictions I've seen are plausible, regardless of which side was chosen. The triple take guys, Appleton Rocks, FF, WIAC, and others all seem to believe it will be a great game, whichever team wins.

UW-W is clearly playing a power team. I believe both to be great teams. Along the defensive front seven, I think UW-O's physicality ranks right up there with the Tommies.  Fantastic challenge for the UW-W offensive line, which I believe is peaking. The UW-W front seven is spectacular right now.  But all that being said, what happens on Saturday is all that matters. Personally, I believe if UW-W plays up to their capability, they will win.  It should be a great game. I know some WIAC fans wish the teams were on separate sides of the bracket to see how far they would advance. Not me. I'm glad for this. Not too often does a college team get a second opportunity. UW-W has been afforded that opportunity. I look forward to seeing how they take advantage of it.

Yes, yes they could.  I still despise Ryan Kleppe 9. ;)  And that Raebel kid wasn't too bad either. 8-)  They were smothering that day.

Can't say UWW fans/students have been saints but I've never heard the other f-word used that a few of us have been called. I've heard the "you f'd up" chant a few times at UWW but not much past 2007. Worst thing I heard was against LaCrosse at homecoming in 2006, big game, biggest crowd ever at the time of 9,000+ and some student yelled "go drown in the river" to which a lot of people yelled "NOOOOOOOOOO".

Ticket booth opens at 9:45 by Oshkosh's stadium. I think I'll buy my tickets first, then head over to Legends Sports Bar & Grill for the UWW pregame festivities.

I remember if you wait until just before the game to purchase tickets, the line is back to the street.
Same plan and #33 is meeting us.  Hopefully early enough for the festivities.
    See you all tomorrow!

Read earlier from a post and did see the Quote in an article I read--"the greatest win in Warhawk History" by your coach. Wow not much of a history for Whitewater football. SJU lost the game yesterday--WW did not win it. Let me know when you win your 1st National Title!!!  Won't be this year.

This is the post I was responding to back in 2005. That escalated quickly -- since then, UWW has gone from zero titles to six.

He had the potential to be the SJU version of Chicago Tommie. Would have made things even more interesting on the MIAC board.

Which leads me to a tip of the cap to CT. He may be crazy, but he's consistently crazy (and/or drunk), and he's stuck around!  :)

Now that Tart, JK, Pat, and Ret have weighed in, all we need is for Wally to comment and I officially hit the jackpot.

I am feeling ignored and left out.

Your condition is called Athazagoraphobia - an uncontrollable fear of being forgotten, ignored, replaced or abandoned. There is a simple remedy which I'm sure you will discover on your own without too much difficulty.

Wally on the other hand has probably just run out of cliché's, hyperbole & .gif's in talking up Wabash, to have much to say about this.  ;D  ;D  ;D

I know it had to be published and I just missed it somewhere, but does anybody know what the attendance was at the UWW-Wheaton Game last week?  I just want to have a number to compare against this week.  I was a big crowd from both sides but I am thinking the UWO may draw a few more.  Of course I don't want to sound arrogant with the assumption that the WIAC may draw a bigger crowd than another conference

Attendance: 2052

Attendance at Wheaton was about 5000.   They listed 2052 in box score that were in the stands at the start of the game, but as Emma mentioned, most of the crowd was waiting in line down down and around block when the game started because Wheaton understaffed the tickets stands.
