They were all over NAIA. Never hear about them now.

Quote from: hazzben on December 11, 2015, 10:18:44 AMYeah, it's one of those where you wonder about buyers remorse.

??? ???

Findlay won the D2 men's basketball national championship in 2008-09, going an undefeated 36-0 in the process. I strongly doubt that anybody associated with Findlay regretted the move from NAIA to D2 when that happened.

There's more to college sports than just football, guys.

In Ohio  ???  ;)

Yeah, 'cause football's such a low priority in the Buckeye State. ;)

Yeah, that's my point Greg. You said there's more to college sports than football. And I rebutted, in Ohio? Meaning I'm not sure that rings true in Ohio. Maybe we're just talking past each other.

Yep, that is the case. I read your rebuttal as being along the lines of, "Is college football really all that important in Ohio?", due to your use of the "Huh?" emoticon, rather than with the sarcasm you intended to convey. Hence, my thinly-veiled reference to Ohio State.

At any rate, the upshot of the matter is that I seriously doubt that there's any buyer's remorse at the University of Findlay concerning the school's move from NAIA to D2. Winning the D2 version of the Walnut & Bronze in basketball is a very big deal, regardless of where the school in question is located.

Sometime ago there were a few posts saying that when the 4 Dakota schools went FCS that pulled talent out of western Wisconsin and Minnesota some of that talent used to go to the WIAC or D2 schools in Minnesota.  I see North Dakota State has made the FCS semi finals and are going for their 5th straight FCS title.  I looked at their roster and they have 16 Wisconsin players.

Came across this article on Friday, but respectfully wanted to wait to post it since all the attention should have been on the Whitewater vs Mount Union game.

Now that we are a couple days past the game, I didn't think anyone would mind if I posted it now...

I counted 18 from WI on their roster and 10 of those are from the central or eastern part of the state.

LOL.  Reminds me of a fun story...as an outgoing senior, I helped screen applications when we posted a listing for a new full-time assistant job.  One of the posted requirements was some degree of previous coaching experience at the college level.  We were amazed at the number of applicants we got that didn't come close to meeting the minimum desired qualifications (I could understand if we were getting guys that had been high-school HC's, but seriously, we had a couple guys who applied by citing their experience coaching their kid's midget football team...)
I was small but made up for it by being slow...

Lots of colorful characters come out of the woodwork when you post a coaching job. There's a lot of people out there who are convinced they can do it....

UW-L puts pieces in place to hire new football coach

QuoteBlum said Reed Hoskins, the Eagles' offensive coordinator as well as a teacher in the Exercise and Sports Science Department, also will not return.

Not exactly a surprise with everything that has happened - Hoskins came from Wartburg with Dettwiler and it was unlikely the new HC would keep him anyway.  Looks like they made that decision for the new HC.

This is what his offenses produced over 5 seasons:

2011:  18.9 PPG, 310.1 YPG
2012:  15.0 PPG, 272.7 YPG
2013:  17.5 PPG, 276.2 YPG
2014:  15.9 PPG, 273.0 YPG
2015:  15.3 PPG, 273.8 YPG

QuoteBlum said there have been 25 applicants in five days (three business days), and she expects significantly more for a position that is 85 percent coaching, 15 percent administrative within the athletic department.

Strong numbers for the first few days of the search.  In my limited knowledge of who may be a candidate, I like the idea of Macalester College Coach Tony Jennison - former UWL athlete (football and track) who won a national title with the Eagles in 1995, and was a finalist for the position in 2011 but not selected.  Macalester presents the same kind of academic challenges UWL faces (to be clear, I am NOT saying UWL is at the same level academically as MAC), and Coach Jennison understands the tradition that we have as Eagles.  Also seems to be a players coach, the opposite of what we saw of Coach Dettwiler.  I also see the Twin Cities as being important in UWL's future success - Oshkosh, Whitewater and Platteville have the Southern part of Wisconsin/Milwaukee/Illinois pretty well picked over in recruiting.  Coach Jennison's ties to the Cities could be huge in recruiting new and different talent for the Eagles.

No Scot-oma at Macalester College – Coach Tony Jennison Has Clear Vision for Success

The last MAC coach to move up in D3 was Glenn Caruso at St. Thomas - I wouldn't be disappointed if we saw similar success at UWL.   ;D

Coach Cerroni shared that UWO RBS Dylan Hecker tore his ACL in the first half against UWW. Wish him a speedy recovery...never want to see players of his caliber fall victim to such an injury. Late in the season makes me curious if he'll medical redshirt next season?

Shouldn't be necessary, unless there's another injury.  You can absolutely get past a knee reconstruction in 8 months now.  Your guy should be good to go for 2016.

We expect Dennis Moore's medical redshirt request to be granted and for him to rejoin the team next year.  We've got some nice returning underclassmen running backs, Ware and Glass in particular, but adding a senior back with his ability and experience will really strengthen the position group.

Hecker is a really nice back.  He's really impressed me in our meetings.  I hope he makes a full recovery.
