Hey, what's the big idea here Javian Dayne (high school sophomore), son of Ron Dayne?
In this article http://www.scout.com/college/football/recruiting/story/1662161-2018-legacy-rb-javian-dayne-visits-wisconsin, he's talking about his summer camp plans:

"I will be attending the Wisconsin-Whitewater camp and my Waunakee camp but I think I'm going to wait until my junior or senior year to start going to real college camps so I can give my best results."

Why I oughta

With the new locker rooms complete, looks like they are going to upgrade the entire building next.

Lance Leipold receives a contract extension after just one year at the helm!!!!

Isn't this fairly standard at the D1 level?  For recruiting purposes, so that other teams can't use the length of his contract against Buffalo?

He's done a good job so far but I don't know that it's surprising.

Whether it's standard or not it's a good sign for Lance.  The athletic director that hired him and had the original vision of a D3 coach being successful at the D1 level left not that long after he was hired.  Whether his replacement shared the same vision was a viable question and this would suggest that at some level they are willing to give it a shot.

Congrats Lance and good luck.

I think it is pretty much standard procedure for a coach you are still willing to work with and that the above point badgerwarhawk made is an excellent one. Making a splash with a new fb coach isn't an unheard of move for a new AD. Extending LL another year indicates that they aren't looking to make that splash right now. However, I do think LL needs to move the team a bit forward this year. Last year, despite the best efforts of that press release, was not significantly different from the year that got the previous coach fired.

But, LL deserves the time he is seemingly being given to bring in his own players and make his system work. One season is not something that is remotely fair to judge him on and I'm not. A game or two of progress in the win column, however, will help him make his case next year for another extension.

Congrats to Lance and the staff there. BW- excellent point about the new AD and the potential uncertainty.
2016 will be an interesting year for UB. As much as I'd love to see them run off a bunch of wins, I hope the coaching performance will be viewed by more than that. Last year UB had a QB with 3-4 years experience, this season is a brand new guy. In the games I watched last year, the offense was plagued by self-inflicted wounds, a real lack of mental discipline. We know from watching LL and staff at UWW that will be a primary focus. They also had special teams issues.
In the end, there are many execution areas that LL will clean up, their record may not improve because they may not have the talent in yet, but the level of play should be improved.

Great points by BW and Emma

The reality is that this coming year's team is truly the first full recruiting class by the new coaching staff and it will take a couple of years for the talent to catch up to the coaching.   If the AD and the University have a little patience, they should be rewarded.

Thanks JB. If he coaches as well as he played, there will be some successful football players at that high school.

Linemen will fuel UW-L's high octane offense

A mullet leads the offensive line in style? Goodness gracious, what do the rest of the linemen have, 1940 flat-tops?  ;)

Bartholomew: UW-L needed a change up front

http://lacrossetribune.com/sports/bartholomew-uw-l-needed-a-change-up-front/article_782dc616-2e64-5c46-9dad-57d7a884acd9.html

QuoteThe Eagles ran a 3-4 defensive front last season and that front seven was roughed up repeatedly in the run game. UW-L allowed an average of 223.2 yards per game last season, which was second-to-last in the WIAC and 213th out of 241 teams in NCAA Division III.

Against the pass, UW-L recorded 12 sacks — also second-to-last in the conference and 217th in the nation.

Those are red-flag statistics.

Coach Mike Schmidt, who was hired in February, said during his interview process that he would change those statistics. The first step for him to do that is changing to a 4-3 front, which adds another defensive lineman to the front seven.

QuoteA 4-3 front needs a pair of larger bodies on the interior to plug up those gaps. A look at last year's roster shows just four of the 16 UW-L linemen weighed more than 250 pounds.

Typially, its the 3-4 that requires larger lineman. The NT is larger than the DT's in a 4-3 and the DT/DE guys in a 3-4 tend to be larger than a 4-3 DE. Maybe that was what made the situation so bad to begin with. Last year they were running a Defensive front that required larger guys and they simply weren't there. And now they recognize that even with the switch to a new front, they still need more beef on the interior.

Sounds like the staff is doing everything they can to address the areas of need, both from a schematic and personnel standpoint.
