UW-Platteville (D-III): UW-Platteville has hired Sam Siefkes to be their co-defensive coordinator, per source. Siefkes previously served as a defensive graduate assistant at Wisconsin and also coached at UW-La Crosse (D-III) and FIU.

Not sure how many Warhawk posters here are actually in Whitewater, but if you're looking for something to do tomorrow night - Saturday, June 25 - that's a change of pace from sports, yet still involves competition, the Whitewater Classic, a Drum Corps International event, is being held at the Perk.

There are squads participating from Iowa, Pennsylvania, Wyoming, and Wisconsin - Racine, Milwaukee and La Crosse. I got a sneak peak tonight at the Blue Stars, who held a dress rehearsal on their home field at UWL.

Entering tomorrow's 2016 debut performance, the Blue Stars have just completed their 35 days of spring training, which entails practices basically from sun up to sun down. I'd imagine the other teams from around the country, coast to coast, have been working just as hard, too...

If you've never seen one of these competitions before, consider it a major-league half-time show of brass and drums - minus the woodwinds and stuff - with ballet and dance mixed in. But  x8, as it lasts about 2 1/2 hours, with 8 teams participating for about 15 minutes per... There's a half time, too. Ha. And food. Not sure if they sell beer?

Tickets range from about $20-$40; you'd be fine purchasing a cheap seats ticket... You may or may not enjoy it? But I'm sure the squads would appreciate your support; it is a performance, game time, and the blood is pumping for them, just like it does for athletes who are competing in our D3 sports...

If you're a D3 fan who doesn't follow the WIAC schools, perhaps there's a corps who makes your D3 team's city its hometown? Perhaps it will be holding an event at your D3's football field this summer, as the teams work towards earning spots in the world championship finals in August in Indianapolis...

I've been a Drum Corps fan for years ever since I used to tag along with my family criss crossing the country with my sister's corps. It's really an outstanding show with a small, dedicated knowledgeable fan base with passion for a level of competition most don't know exists. In other words, it's a lot like D-III.

DIII with drums and bugles.

I was on campus yesterday to officiate a youth hoops tournament and it looked like the competition was in full swing.  They had to be incredibly uncomfortable in the heat and humidity.  It was nasty.  I was actually glad to be a stuffy gym.

Hey BoBo!

Of course Mt is so good, with such low enrollment you can give each student athlete greater one on one attention.
Or something like that.

What does being the third most valued field in Wisconsin actually mean (they state that in their facility descrition)? I know it doesn't mean the third best or third most impressive, or third most beautiful. Their turf was looking rather worn, so it's nice that it's being upgraded, but what they need to do is demolish half the home grandstand and add the seats lost to the visitors side.

If only to get further away from the most annoying PA announcer ever.
I can't believe I ever rooted for this team.

UWL head coach Mike Schmidt will co-ordinate the Eagle defense this season. He had hoped to land a co-ordinator , but because of state hiring rules was unable to finish the process until after spring practice. This, he indicates, is a tough time to get an established coach to make a change. In other news, he has landed a large recruiting class with a couple of transfers who may provide immediate impact.
